The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

It's usually spelled "Penelope" or "Pennelope," but parents can do what they want when they name their kids.
Wouldn't even be the craziest respelling I've seen of a name out there. But hey, at least it's not Penelore right? I actually knew a girl with that name once.

That sounds more like a planet in the Dr. Who universe than a girl’s name.

But anyway, if you want a more original short form of Penneloupe then maybe Loppy would work if it’s pronounced like the English version, or Lop or Loop if it’s not. (Think of all the bunny puns you could make with option #2).

Good afternoon. Sorry for being late with the coffee and snacks. I've been weaning myself off the Meloxicam I'd been taking for my knee. After six days I'm starting to realize how much my body aches without it. Day three was the worst with running a temperature as if I was suffering an illness. I will try to see if I can continue or give up and start taking it again.

In any event, there's a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is hot. Donuts and cookies are on the counter.

I will be in the corner working on my story. Stop by and chat. It may help me with my story ...

Character names... on a whim, I named my most recent cast addition "Pamina," after the princess lead in the Mozart opera I recently played in, The Magic Flute. A few jokes are being made at her expense. She went by "Pam" the last two years of college given the grief she endured from music majors. The next joke is likely to be if she has a brother named "Tamino" since it's already been established her parents are Mozart aficionados.

I thought about that, but if I started speaking to people like I was a Huggies or a MacDonald advert, then I'd have even more trouble socialising :) I prefer the current situation: the jumble of unknown words don't grab my attention in the way English sales-talk does.
I've gone for German as the least annoying language, and the main thing I've learnt so far is how many German ads are now mainly in English, along with the popular use of the now-German word Shitstorm.

Made blackberry and apple crumble with apples from a friend's tree. It's starting to feel a bit autumnal.

I've gone for double Dutch

My 2nd lot of tomato relish reduced down to only two jars! Almost out of jars now, so maybe just as well cos I've got beetroot to do later in the autumn

Really? I feel like they squandered a perfect opportunity there. I mean, how much more impactful it would’ve sounded if they simply translated it literally as Scheissgewitter?
Scheiss is a milder term in lots of compounds - except when it comes across as stronger. But length in headlines and being able to get away with English swear words is part of it - like the famous newspaper cover with Angela Merkel and the headline "Es ist ein Shitshow", describing Brexit - a term British pundits couldn't use in the news themselves but could then quote...

Another cool morning (50 degrees) but the sun is shining and the dew is sparkling on the grass. I'm feeling better (if that's really what it is) today so I won't need to go back on the Meloxicam. Everything aches but its manageable. It hurts when I start moving but goes away quickly with activity. It's just that I can't be in motion constantly and still write.

Anyway, there's fresh coffee brewing and the teapot is steaming. There are donuts on the counter.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I guess I'll be getting up frequently to keep from seizing up so, since I'll be interrupting myself from time to time anyway, just stop by and say 'Howdy" if you want ...

You had knee surgery, right? Was it knee replacement? That is what my surgical consult in two weeks is for. Any tips or thoughts? Feel free to PM me about it if you have any; most of the customers here don't need to hear medical tales while sipping their coffee or tea.

I'm glad the pain is subsiding.

I had a gel injection in my knee. So far, it seems to be working. When it no longer works I will need to get a knee replacement.

The injection just made my knee worse. It appears the swelling was holding my knee together

My physiotherapist once said that the knee is a stupid joint between two intelligent joints (hip and ankle). I don’t know how much that helps if all of them hurt like mine do sometimes.

My joints are in good shape for my age, other than the knee that failed catastrophically last year

Have to brag a little... we have Chamber of Commerce weather all week! Deep blue cloudless skies, highs in the upper 70s, starry, cool nights, low humidity... just lovely. Even the weather folks are commenting, "This is so unlike late August weather here!"

Problem, tho' - no rain in the 10-day forecast, nor in the previous 10. After a soaked, way-above-average wet spring and early summer, everything is turning brown. My lawns are simply going to have to suffer. The last time I tried to "save" them in the dry like this, the water bill was totally OMG!

But I'll take the California-grade weather as long as it lasts.
