For Those Who Might Be Wondering Why We Might Be In Ukraine

Politicians, Experts Convinced that American Quisling Trump Will Try to Force Ukraine to Make Concessions to Russia

Former Swedish PM Carl Bildt says Trump’s latest remarks on territory swaps show he plans to push Ukraine into making territorial concessions. The latest statements by U.S. President Donald Trump about the exchange of territories indicate that he intends to try to force Ukraine to make territorial concessions, Minister of Foreign Affairs (2006-2014) and Prime Minister (1991-1994) of Sweden Carl Bildt believes. “The idea with the Trump deadline was to force Russia into agreeing on a complete ceasefire. Now it looks like it will instead lead to Trump trying to force Ukraine into territorial concessions to Putin,” Bildt said on the X social network. Later he compared this to the Munich Agreement of 1938. “In 1938 UK and France forced Czechoslovakia to hand over key territory to Hitler. The result? Within months Czechoslovakia ceased to exist, and within a further few months, there was all out war in Europe,” the diplomat stated.

The founder of the volunteer group “People’s Rear,” former Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tuka, said Trump’s proposal, if you believe media reports, is that “the orcs return part of our territory to us, and we give them part of our territory.” “After such a policy of the U.S. President, there is no reason to be surprised by the rapid increase in countries that will begin to produce nuclear weapons as the only guarantor of their own security,” he said. Senior partner of the Avellum law firm, former head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Kostiantyn Likarchuk skeptically called the proposal to “exchange their own territories for their own territories” the “art of the deal.”

“The only good thing is that withdrawing troops from such a territory, ‘exchange’ them – it is very, very difficult. Therefore, there is hope that this will never be done. Personally, I do not imagine a Ukrainian president with any surname who would give such an order. Even less do I imagine that the Ukrainian army will carry it out. And so – a respite, time to prepare for the fourth phase of the war. That is, if it still happens,” he said.

Swedish economist and diplomat, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States Anders Åslund called Trump predictable after such statements. “His ‘threat’ of sanctions on Russia was merely an invitation to one-on-one meeting with Putin and a way to block sanctions on Russia demanded by 85 senators. Now Trump has set the stage for his sellout of Ukraine behind its back. Everything suggests that immoral Trump is preparing to stab Ukraine in the back, giving Putin half of what he asks for while Putin has not made any concessions,” he said on X, adding that “horrifying to see how Trump stabs Ukraine in the back.”

Timothy Ash, senior sovereign strategist at RBC BlueBay Asset Management, commented on Aslund’s statement, writing: “Basically Trump and Putin choreographed all this to screw Ukraine.” “By meeting in Alaska both Trump and Putin give the biggest signal yet that they plan to make decisions on Ukraine without Ukraine and behind its back. A great power summit carving up the world and smaller countries are the menu,” he later added.

Ukrainian MP from the Holos faction Yaroslav Zhelezniak said the claims that “someone misunderstood” do not look very plausible. “Let’s be honest, if they have already publicly announced the date and place of the meeting of the two heads of state on August 15, then it is obvious that they have clarified their positions many times before that. But what they agreed on without us is something we obviously will not like, that is expected,” he said on Facebook.

Ukraine has struck deep inside Russia, hitting a key defense industry facility in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The target was a plant critical to producing components for some of Russia’s most advanced missiles. This precision drone strike is part of Ukraine’s wider strategy to degrade Russia’s military capabilities at their source, disrupting production lines far from the front.

As Historic Trump-Putin Summit Approaches, Poll Finds Only 24% of Ukrainians Want to Keep Fighting

By Tyler Durden, Zero Hedge • Aug. 12, 2025

(ZeroHedge)—There’s some interesting and vital data which was released last week, just ahead of this coming Friday’s historic Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, which will focuse on finding a solution to ending the Russia-Ukraine war, though the US leader has just tempered expectations by calling it a “feel-out meeting”.

Gallup released a poll last Thursday which demonstrates a dramatic shift in Ukrainian public opinion, with 69% of the population now favoring a negotiated settlement to end the grinding war as soon as possible.

General war weariness has long been a feature of the conflict, which has been raging for over 540 days at this point, and has taken at least tens of thousands or possibly hundreds of thousands of lives. Many Ukrainians fled abroad during the first year, and huge amounts of people are still internally displaced in the war-ravaged country.

The fresh Gallup poll found that just 24% support continuing the fight until achieving a military victory, which is a stark reversal from views held at the start of the war more than three years ago.

UK Defense Intelligence: russia Gains 500+ sq km in July as Pokrovsk Faces Encirclement Threat

Tactical gains north-east and south-west of Pokrovsk bring russian troops closer to surrounding the strategic town

The russian Ground Forces (RGF) highly likely seized approximately 500-550 sq km of Ukrainian territory in July 2025. The RGF seized a similar amount of Ukrainian territory in June 2025, following month on month increases from March 2025. The RGF continued to make tactical advances in Donetsk region, primarily to the north-east and south-west of Pokrovsk.

The RGF are continuing attempts to envelop the town and apply pressure to the remaining logistical routes to the town. Russian forces have now occupied nearly all of Donetsk region territory south from Pokrovsk, the UK Defense Intelligence reports.

Russian Troops Press on Kupyansk, Target Key Supply Routes

Russian assault units secure northern Kupyansk, aiming to cut key supply roads. Analysts warn Ukrainian forces risk encirclement amid growing logistical issues.

Reports from military channels indicate that Russian assault units have secured positions in the northern and northwestern sectors of Kupyansk. Ukrainian sources even claim that some Russian soldiers recently attempted to buy cigarettes in a local shop using rubles.

Military analyst Gennady Alekhin stated that Russian forces are continuing to break through Ukrainian defenses and consolidate their gains, which, in his view, highlights serious challenges for Kyiv’s troops in the Kupyansk area. He pointed to a recent breakthrough near the village of Moskovka that prompted Ukrainian commanders to withdraw certain units beyond the city limits and establish a new defensive line near the old airfield.

Alekhin suggested that if Russian troops manage to cut the Kupyansk-Shevchenkove-Chuhuiv road, the Ukrainian garrison could face encirclement. He noted that severing the N-26 highway — currently the main supply route for Ukrainian forces in Kupyansk — could force them to retreat. Otherwise, the entire Kupyansk grouping risks being trapped.

According to the analyst, Russian units are pressing on the city from multiple directions while also clearing nearby villages. He argued that mounting logistical difficulties and weakening defenses may ultimately compel Ukrainian forces to abandon Kupyansk and fall back to new positions.

Russia's tank fleet is Gone with the Wind.....

Russia’s once-feared tank fleet is now showing its age. Since the war in Ukraine began in early 2022, confirmed Russian tank losses have exceeded 4,000, with Ukrainian claims topping 10,000. Many of Russia’s modern tanks are too expensive to risk, forcing the Kremlin to pull T-72As from the 1970s and even T-62s from the 1960s back into service.Satellite imagery from July and August 2024 shows dozens of these outdated tanks moving to UralVagonZavod for refurbishment.

Analysts estimate only a fraction of the roughly 1,000 stored T-72As are repairable, and even those remain vastly inferior to Western-supplied Ukrainian armor. Despite tripling T-90M production to 300 units a year, the losses are unsustainable, leaving Moscow in a worsening strategic bind.

Ukraine is striking at single points of failure with the Russian military industrial complex.....

Ukraine has, in just seven days, dismantled the core of Russia’s war machine. This is not random fire but a deliberate campaign of precision strikes against the most critical points in Russia’s military production.
- The Monokristall plant in Stavropol is gone, leaving missiles, tanks, and aircraft without eyes.
- In Crimea, the TRLK-10 Skala-M radar is destroyed, opening a massive gap in air defenses.
- The Orenburg helium plant, vital for missile testing and aerospace systems, is offline.
- The Saratov Rosneft refinery burns, cutting jet fuel and diesel supplies.
- In Yaroslavl, the armored vehicle engine plant is wrecked, halting tank and APC output - both new and refurbished.
- The Neptun control systems facility in St. Petersburg is struck, crippling Russia’s naval command.
- Even Alabuga in Tatarstan, hub for Shahed drone production, is hit deep behind the lines.

Each was a single point of failure. Together, they create cascading paralysis. Russia is blind, immobile, and being disarmed. Its ability to see, fuel, deploy, and coordinate forces is collapsing.

The evidence is clear. Ukraine’s strategy is precision warfare - dismantling the infrastructure that keeps Putin’s military alive and shifting the balance of power in this war.

Trump's Alaska meeting is a last-ditch effort to save Putin. Zelensky has already said that any meeting that does not involve Ukraine is irrelevant - "Ukraine does not recognize any decisions made as a result of the meeting between Trump and Putin without Ukraine's participation." — Zelenskyy

The Russian FSB is unleashing a brutal purge inside Russia.

This desperate power grab comes as Russia's battlefield losses mount and its economy collapses, threatening Putin's control over the Kremlin.

Cornered and with dwindling resources, the regime is now considering a high-stakes gamble: secret talks with Donald Trump in Alaska. But with Putin reportedly too afraid to fly, this desperate move reveals the true chaos gripping his inner circle. In this analysis, we break down the verified reports detailing the FSB's actions and what it means for the future of the war.

Russian troops are parking or abandoning their tanks and IFV's in the open with the hatches open to make it easier for Ukraine to destroy them, so they don't have to fight in them. Last week a S300 missile complex was parked in the open and destroyed within 90 minutes. Russian troops simply don't want to fight anymore.

Like Trump I'd like to see an end to the killing. What you'd like to see happen is Trump failing and ignore the killing. Something which points out the flaw in your mental reasoning.
trump doesn’t care about the killing. He wants a Nobel

For those who don't actually understand what's going on, Trump is trying to mediate the conflict. Despite Putin's refusals and bad faith, Trump has gotten Putin to the bargaining table. That itself is a sign of hope.
Putin is a cat toying with a mouse

Another thing about mediating disputes that you TDS riddled dipshits refuse to acknowledge; if the parties don't want to do anything except fight, it's not the mediator's fault. In this we can blame both Zelensky and Putin but Trump isn't part of that.
Yes, trump is an expert at shedding responsibility while abandoning alliances

Ukraine deploys Azov to contain Russia breakthrough on Pokrovsk sector. It’s difficult to ascertain if those are real penetrations or raids by small groups. The Russians have been improving their small scale raid tactics.

Accusations of incomptence directed at Ukrainian supreme command from a number of sources.

Ukrainian Support for War Effort Collapses

Public sours on Washington, loses hope for quick NATO accession
by Benedict Vigers
https://asset.gallup.com/p/POLL/7e8e24e4-cefc-42a2-a08b-31e99bf0081f.jpg
LONDON — Most Ukrainians now favor ending the war with Russia through negotiations, as support for fighting until victory has dropped sharply since the early days of the conflict. Although their hopes for joining NATO and the European Union have faded and approval of U.S. leadership has plummeted, Ukrainians still see the EU, U.K. and U.S. as key to ending the war. Yet, most doubt that will happen anytime soon.

More than three years into the war, Ukrainians’ support for continuing to fight until victory has hit a new low. In Gallup’s most recent poll of Ukraine — conducted in early July — 69% say they favor a negotiated end to the war as soon as possible, compared with 24% who support continuing to fight until victory.

This marks a nearly complete reversal from public opinion in 2022, when 73% favored Ukraine fighting until victory and 22% preferred that Ukraine seek a negotiated end as soon as possible.

Support for the war effort has declined steadily across all segments of the Ukrainian population, regardless of region or demographic group. This shift comes as diplomatic efforts gain new traction. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signaled readiness for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, proposing renewed negotiations, while U.S. President Donald Trump is attempting to pressure the Kremlin with the threat of sanctions.

Ukraine prepared to cede territory held by Russia

Joe Barnes

Ukraine could agree to stop fighting and cede territory already held by Russia as part of a European-backed plan for peace.
Volodymyr Zelensky told European leaders that they must reject any settlement proposed by Donald Trump in which Ukraine gives up further territory – but that Russia could be allowed to retain some of the land it has taken.

This would mean freezing the front line where it is and handing Russia de facto control of the territory it occupies in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Crimea.

The softening of the negotiating position comes ahead of talks between Mr Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.

“The plan can only be related to the current positions held by the militaries,” a Western official said, characterising a frantic weekend of diplomacy between Kyiv and its allies.

Ukraine and Europe have become increasingly concerned that Mr Trump and Putin could negotiate an end to the long-running war over Mr Zelensky’s head.

The new reality that this war only had one outcome.

I think you need to step back and look at what you're saying here because most of it seems to be from ire and spite.

Then there's this

2 points that are coming out of this bit of news:

1. Just days ago Zelensky was adamant that he wouldn't accept any deal in which he had to give up territory in order to get peace. Today, he's prepared to do that. So long as it's not Trump who gets the credit. Which sounds a lot like sour grapes from someone who would prefer to keep fighting because he's getting rich from it and he doesn't really care what's happening to his country and people.

2. The deal Trump is trying to broker between Russia and Ukraine is the "European backed deal." It's kind of hard to say Trump is the rogue actor here if Europe is on board with what he's trying to do.
Your reading skills aren't up to par, Arphy. Info in your reference doesn't support this at all. None of the countries in the article are signing on to the idea of giving up territory over this war or demanding it be done like Trump. He and Putin are the only two who want to divide up Ukraine, and of these two, one wants to divide it 100% and the other idiot might just go for it.

"KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A peace deal that requires Kyiv to accept swapping Ukrainian territory with Russia would not only be deeply unpopular. It also would be illegal under its constitution.

"That's why President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has categorically rejected any deal with Moscow that could involve ceding land after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested such a concession would be beneficial to both sides, ahead of his meeting Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

"Zelenskyy said over the weekend that Kyiv “will not give Russia any awards for what it has done,” and that “Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier.” The remarks came after Trump said a peace deal would involve swapping of Ukrainian territories by both sides “to the betterment of both.”

"For Zelenskyy, such a deal would be [a] disaster for his presidency and spark public outcry after more than three years of bloodshed and sacrifice by Ukrainians. Moreover, he doesn’t have the authority to sign off on it, because changing Ukraine’s 1991 borders runs counter to the country’s constitution."

It's going to be truly fascinating to see how Trump rationalizes Putin ignorimg his demands for an immediate ceasefire while NOT imposing any penalties on Russia and meanwhile blaming Ukraine.

Oh, I agree. It's self-evident there's some sort of collusion going on. Trump couldn't keep backstabbing and attacking Ukraine and helping Putin as he has been otherwise.

Trump is very obviously going as far as he can to help Putin without making it so blatantly obvious that even the GOP would be forced to disavow him, and between Trump, the Vance-Hegseth wing of the GOP and the delusional idiots who fall for the Russian propaganda propagated by the likes of Carlson Tucker and a lot of the media, they've carried a lot of voters with them.

Answer these two questions honestly:

Have DonOld & the MAGAt republican administration / congress done more to hurt Russia or help Russia???

Well, we all know the answer there. Trump has actively hurt Ukraine whereever he can, and failed to help where he could have. Even where he could have done nothing and that would have helped Ukraine, he's done his best not to. And his cintinuing attacks on Zelensky and his ongoing concessions to Putin speak for themselves.

As for Russia, have we seen any real sanctions yet? Ones that bite? Nyet.

Explosions Rock Russia’s Volgograd, Lukoil Refinery Hit Overnight

Local officials blamed falling debris for igniting spilled oil products at the LUKOIL-Volgogradneftepererabotka plant, :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:while Russia claimed to have intercepted 44 Ukrainian UAVs overnight.

A series of drone strikes hit Russia’s Volgograd region early Thursday, Aug. 14, igniting a fire at a major oil refinery. Volgograd Region Governor Andrey Bocharov said falling drone debris caused oil products to spill and catch fire at the LUKOIL-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery. "Firefighters quickly began extinguishing the fire. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties,” he wrote. The Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery, the largest producer of petroleum products in Russia’s Southern Federal District, has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian drones. It was also struck on Aug. 13, as well as on Jan. 15, Feb. 3, and May 11, 2024. Residents reported hearing explosions after 2:30 a.m., particularly loud in the Krasnoarmiysky district. The Shot Telegram channel citing witnesses reported that five to seven blasts were heard, and debris from a downed drone caused fires and heavy smoke in one area.

The Exilenova+ Telegram channel reported several direct hits on the refinery and published footage from the site. According to the outlet, NASA satellites recorded a large-scale fire at the facility, which has an annual refining capacity of 14.8 million tons. At 11:29 p.m. on Aug. 13, Volgograd airport enacted the “Carpet” plan, temporarily closing for arrivals and departures.

At 12:06, the General Staff of Ukraine confirmed on Telegram that, in the early hours of August 14, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, struck the Volgograd oil refinery, which supplies the Russian army with petroleum products. “The strike by UAVs caused severe fires at the plant. The exact consequences of the damage are still being assessed,” the statement read. The General Staff noted that the refinery processes over 15 million tons of oil annually - about 5.6% of all oil refined in Russia - and produces diesel, gasoline, and jet fuel, which are critical for the Russian military’s logistics. “We are consistently working to reduce the production capacity of petroleum products in the aggressor country and weaken its army. Russia must fully feel the consequences of its aggressive policy and end its war against Ukraine,” the report said.

This refinery is responsible for 5% of Russia's oil refining capacity. Latest reports are that fires are expanding throughout the complex.
