Basically they're used to slow down or stop the formation of new blood vessels in the eye. Can be helpful for those with macular degeneration, diabetes, and a few other conditions. It can slow down vision loss or even improve it.
I would recommend the individual have a good, candid conversation with their ophthalmologist about risks and benefits. If it's a choice between slowly losing vision or maybe improving it, I would do it.
