The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

How do u or should i fire a deck guy... he got a deposit... ripped stuff off half built deck. On Thursday said he was on vacation for 5 days and then would finish...haven't heard from him since....

Am I being coocoo
I do recall you checked his references. I use Google Maps to get references as I am usually searching in my area. I have started to read other reviews of the reviewers and sometimes I will discount them. Especially if they are all good. I for one have recommended my dentist but wish I could take that back now. As far as the deck goes I would discount any excuse.

I just spent a few days on the shore on the Keys. I could not help but notice that much of what I saw swimming ans sunbathing and walking around was considered porn when I was an adulescent. Not that I minded but I guess there are laws against being nude. I would have had to to gawk to tell for sure.
We spent an afternoon on a beach on the big lake. A lot of very skimpy bikinis. I didn't mind to be honest... 🤣

In rural France, the best time to shop (in supermarkets) is between 12 and 2. The French take a 2 hour lunch between those hours, usually three courses and using the full 2 hours. Most workers get meal vouchers as part of their benefits package, value at the discretion of individual employers, and usually worth between 8 and 15 euros (10 and 17 USD) at least half of which is funded by the employer. And virtually every village has a restaurant offering a 3 course set lunch for that price. Also, almost all businesses, bar the supermarkets but including banks, will close over the lunch period.
I spent a month in Spain and left there, a HUGE fan/supporter of "Siesta!"

I have watched a few news segments on contractors not doing the jobs and taking money etc. There are some crooks out there. On the other hand I worked for a summer for a contractor putting in pools. We did one a week +/1 a day. I would start looking around and asking around. Money is too hard to come by anyway and then there are guys like you have there. It only sounds like a day or two job anyway.

Contact him, leave him a nice message asking when he's going to return. If within a reasonable period of time he doesn't return contact the local police file, a report or go to the county prosecutor for fraud. But give it a couple weeks to show that you're doing this in good faith.
Pull out a notebook now. Document everything.
Dates/times/topics of all calls
Date, check #, amount, and when given to him
Keep all text messages, emails, etc.
If you have photos, keep them
If you don't - start taking them
Document all phases of the work as you go
🤞 you won't need any of it, but could help if you do

Home. Had a tough go with my old co-worker. I've been as patient as possible with him, but he talks too much, doesn't remember what we talked about an hour ago, and he really truly struggles to follow my dreadfully specific instructions. Really. I already thought it out.

Last month, we had a stint of a few hours in this one picky/sicky woman's apartment. She's a good sport, but have it done and clean and be gone when she gets back. Simple, really. Do it first thing, unfuck your shit, and be gone. Last time, he let the crew tell him that they'd get to it, thet got there after lunch, they weren't done and had shit everywhere and the 3-page bitch letter we got with 8 units on it, hers was a whole fucking page. I swore to the guys, him included, never again, and here's how - we'll do what I say next time. Today was Next Time.

I walked down the sidewalk this morning after a week's prep/pep talk about it and there he is, escorting the crew into the unit stack . . . next door. "But you said . . . " "I said, do what I say! You're giving your crew away and you're repeating every single thing that went to Hell the last time." "But you said to go in her place at 8:30" "I said, it's maybe 8:30. Tell them to wait and go knock on her door." Lol and behold, she came out by herself all of 30 seconds later, and disaster was averted.

I got a call from the boss with some cryptic shit about professionalism. Those always annoy me in a very special Somebody-needs-shankin' kind of way. That was after lunch. On the way home, he calls me back and tells me he's transferring this old dude and sending me someone else come Monday. So, my snake in the grass is leaving. And here I thought he had more character than that. Figures . . . .
People can be a PITA!... even if it's only 1% who are, the math on 330 million people is staggering.
Hence, I work on a fukkin boat, with 5 other dudes, which greatly reduces my exposure! 🤣

Step the fuck up, man up, do your motherfucking job, don't bitch, and take/follow directions from the boss.

There's no secret.

In the Ozark Mountains, don't even bother trying to get anything done during the opening week of deer season! 🤣

But if you end up with a 1% dude on the boat, you're stuck with him for a month!

Unless you offload him to the fish...
"Deadweight" is very rare out here and is corrected rapidly...
It's a very small world....
Divide 12,600 by 330 million... look how many zeros there are aft of the decimal.... that's how many engine room licenses there were the last time I checked.
Despite my efforts, I've been unable to bring a single young person into the industry.

I look at this oilfield/rig service EXACTLY like I looked at making cheeseburgers at the drive-in when I was a kid...

It's a "service industry" and if they don't like the way they get their fukkin "cheeseburgers" they'll get a different boat!
