For Those Who Might Be Wondering Why We Might Be In Ukraine

Short and hopefully painful. Murderous little wannabe war criminal got what he needed.....termination

These water trucks are heading from Russia's Rostov toward Ukraine.

Due to Russian occupation, Donetsk region has been left without water.

The region is currently suffering from extreme heat, and water is almost entirely unavailable. Both drinking and technical water now has to be delivered to more than 1.2 million residents of Donetsk and Makiivka, as well as to half a million people in other towns and cities.

There is also a shortage of water for Russian soldiers from the "Center" and "East" military groupings.

The hopelessness of the situation is not that there is no way to deliver water - because of leaky pipes, destroyed water intakes, and pumping stations. The real disaster is that the water itself has physically run out.

In the Donetsk coal basin, nearly all mines have been flooded during the occupation. As long as the mines were operating or kept in dry conservation, water was regularly pumped out. But after Russian forces occupied the city in 2014, they first sold all the equipment from these mines for scrap metal, and then simply flooded everything.

Flooding the mines means stopping the pumping of water from them - disrupted water horizons, underground rivers, etc. do their job. The tragedy is that once a mine fills up, its contents mix with these groundwater horizons. The resulting excess pressure forces this mine water to rise to the surface, creating huge rust-colored swamps - that's iron oxide.

As a result, all water horizons in Donbas are now unfit for any use. This is a massive environmental catastrophe that no one is talking about.

Denys covers the Aeroflot hack....

Aeroflot servers are bricks, all Aeroflot servers are down, everything is now being done manually - roughly half a year to get back up. They were running on Windows XP. A quick check says mainstream support for Windows XP ended on April 14, 2009, and extended support ended on April 8, 2014!!!!! Windows Embedded POSReady 2009, based on Windows XP Professional, received security updates until April 2019. The final security update for Service Pack 3 was released on May 14, 2019. So assuming they had the latest, (unlikely) this has all been completely unsupported for years . rotflmao. Theui CEO hasn't changed his password in 3 years. I wonder which window he'll fallout of?

Maintenance records gone. Crew locations and schedules - gone. Spare parts? No idea where they are. Almost all flights cancelled. Passengers unable to check in. Refueling not possible. 7000 physical and virtual servers destroyed. They were inside the systems for a year, so I imagine all the backups are garbage now as well. All critical corporate systems compromised.

I remember readig somewhere that if a big corprate has a complete systems failure like this, they usually go bankrupt and collapse wintin a few months, even with a DR site, and I imagine Aeroflot DR sites are gone too. Let's see if this collapses Aeroflot.

Another look at the hack....

It’s dawn on Monday, July 28, 2025, and at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport a wearily familiar scene is unfolding—departure boards frozen, passengers stranded, irate people being denied refunds. Yet this time it was not drones that had caused the grounding of planes, the inconvenience and discomfort to passengers.

It was one of the most effective hacks in history. Aeroflot, Russia’s state‐owned flag carrier was grounded by a major cyberattack. Flights cancelled, chaos at ticket counters, confusion everywhere. This was no glitch, as the Kremlin propagandists initially tried to claim. It is a digital war. And the Kremlin is terrified of the implications of such attacks for its war economy.

The hacker groups Silent Crow and Belarus Cyber‑Partisans emerged to claim responsibility. But something on this scale cannot just have been a private initiative. Ukraine is fighting back, and the Russian Goliath is falling and hitting the ground hard. This is part of a concerted strategy to hit the economy, so expect more.

What happens when a war machine forgets how to fly? In a new episode of Break The Fake, Benjamin Lee breaks down the aviation meltdown gripping Russia – hundreds of flights canceled, Aeroflot's systems hacked by pro-Ukrainian cyber groups, and airspace chaos triggered by swarms of drones. Join us to find out more about cyber opeations on Russian aviation.

UKraine is making life a nightmare for Russian civilians

On the ***** front, one Ukrainian brigade found an ingenious use for ancient Roman tactics on the current battlefield, combining them with modern warfare elements and technology to sabotage the Russian advance toward *****. This created a zone so lethal that these Ukrainians are eliminating Russians at an insane ration of 66 Russian soldiers for every Ukrainian casualty they take.

In the sector near *****, despite holding a substantial bridgehead across the Zherebets River, Russian forces remain critically overstretched. Their goal to establish a direct route towards *****, a town they've fruitlessly sought to capture for over two years, remains distant. Consequently, Russian commanders have redirected significant effort toward breaching the defensive lines around Torske, hoping to improve their severely limited logistical situation across the Zherebets River. Standing firmly against this intense Russian pressure is Ukraine’s battle-hardened 63rd Mechanized Brigade. Exploiting favorable terrain, the brigade has expertly leveraged local geography for defensive advantage. To the north of Torske, large reservoirs limit Russian maneuverability and prevent effective flanking actions, isolating their frontal assaults. South of Torske, expansive forested areas have allowed Ukrainian forces to establish deep fire control zones, creating lethal chokepoints for attacking Russian infantry and motorbike squads.

The results of this skillful Ukrainian defense have been devastating for the Russians. Despite substantially increased assaults, Russian forces face severe shortages of armor, forcing commanders to resort primarily to infantry assaults on motorcycles and ATVs. In response, the 63rd Brigade has perfected a ruthless, cost-effective defensive strategy that has yielded a stunning kill to death ratio in their favor. The extraordinary figure indicates that for each Ukrainian soldier lost, Russian forces lose around 66 troops, a devastating statistic demonstrating Ukrainian tactical superiority in the area. Key to Ukraine’s remarkable defensive success here is the innovative revival of ancient Roman warfare tactics, particularly the widespread use of caltrops. Historically, Roman soldiers employed caltrops, metal devices designed with spikes positioned in all directions, as highly effective area-denial tools. Placed on roads, fields, or forest pathways, caltrops punctured enemy horses’ hooves, forced troops into open, vulnerable spaces, and slowed advancing units significantly, enabling Roman forces to saturate their exposed enemies with projectiles.

Now, the Ukrainian 63rd Brigade applies this ancient tactic using drones to disperse modern versions of caltrops across Russian assault paths. Unlike traditional mines, caltrops are inexpensive, safe to deploy remotely, and difficult to detect through drone surveillance. When Russian motorbike squads inevitably run over these hidden traps, they are flung off their bikes and forced into exposed areas to clear these small but numerous obstacles, instantly becoming easy targets for Ukrainian artillery, small arms fire, and precision drone strikes. The Ukrainian effectiveness is further strengthened by their approach to active defense. When Russian units temporarily occupy forward positions, the Ukrainians immediately launch aggressive drone strikes before enemy soldiers can consolidate or recover. These rapid, coordinated counterattacks exploit the exhaustion and disorder of freshly arrived Russian troops, further compounding their casualties before they are completely pushed back and eliminated.

The desperation of Russian forces in this area is increasingly evident. Troops are frequently spotted employing thermal cloaks intended to shield them from detection, yet their poor implementation renders them ineffective, making Russian soldiers even more visible to Ukrainian drones equipped with standard or thermal imaging. Consequently, geolocated drone footage frequently shows Russian units easily identified and swiftly eliminated, despite their attempts at concealment. Recognizing their unfavorable situation, Russian soldiers in this sector are increasingly choosing to surrender. Facing overwhelming tactical and technological inferiority, many Russian personnel clearly understand they will never survive long enough to leverage their numerical superiority and engage directly with Ukrainian positions.

Overall, Ukraine’s creative application of ancient Roman caltrops combined with cutting-edge drone warfare has produced a lethal defensive tactic. The persistent employment of this approach by the 63rd Mechanized Brigade near Torske has devastated Russian infantry assaults, completely undermining the Russian offensive and maintaining relentless battlefield stagnation. The resurrection of ancient warfare techniques...

Russian media reports that hackers have attacked two Russian pharmacy chains, Stolichka and Neopharm, and the Moscow clinic chain Family Doctor.

Stolichka alone has over 1,000 pharmacies, mostly located in Moscow and the Moscow region. Neither online ordering nor in-store checkouts are working. Pharmacy outlets have been closed indefinitely.

A ceasefire is no solution.

Ukrainians under Russian occupation will continue to face filtration camps, torture, rapes, killings and deportations.

Russia will treat any ceasefire as it has treated 20 previous ceasefires since 2014. By violating it.

But I’m sure Russiaguide (the thread starter), who declared that Ukraine was toast for the past two-plus years (at least) knows better than a former commander of Seal Team Six… because Ukraine doesn’t have “the cards” (all they have is modern drone warfare systems & tactics and skilled, motivated, patriotic leaders & fighters).

😑

We. Told. Them. So.

🌷

A parting thought about Putin’s ulterior strategy in this war, delivered in a twist on an old adage:

Feed a Russian man a fish, and he eats for a day.

Teach a Russian man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.

Send a poorly trained Russian man / soldier / former prison inmate / potential revolutionary to die in a suicidal meat-wave assault against highly skilled & trained Ukrainian defenders with state of the art drones & tactics, etc., and you don’t have to feed him a fish OR worry about him catching fish out of your lakes, ponds, rivers and streams, like he was taught, ever again.

😳

Slava Ukraini!!!

Zelensky deserves criticism for his actions here. I'm glad he is changing course due to that political pressure from the people of Ukraine.

I will add - this is exactly an argument against the argument that Zelensky is a.dictator.

Second add - I.typically steer clear of stories from Al Jazeera, but this article is the best on the topic I found.

Al Jazeera have their moments. I generally ignore them but occassionally there are gems.

It's a bit like CNN - when its American, CNN are way biased, but where it's not tied to anything they are trying to spin, they can actually be rather good.

A new $30 billion drone deal between Ukraine and the United States, announced July 25, 2025, signals a radical shift in global military power. With President Zelenskyy now selling advanced drones to the U.S., Ukraine is reversing traditional defense partnerships and asserting dominance in drone warfare. Production is set to hit 8 million drones annually, while Kyiv’s overall defense budget climbs to $53.7 billion—26% of its GDP.

Backed by 150+ manufacturers and combat-tested AI tech, Ukraine’s defense sector has tripled in size, reaching $35 billion in production capacity. Its FPV drones, AI kits, and swarming software are not only defeating Russia on the battlefield but also turning Ukraine into a premier arms exporter. If the current momentum holds, Ukraine’s military future may outpace even the largest Cold War-era superpowers.

For those doubting the Ukrainian casualty counts and the Ukraine / Russia ratio

Most of the estimates I've seen indicated a 10-1 ratio for Russians to Ukrainian soldiers. In *****, the Ukraininans have achieved an incredible 66 Russian to 1 Ukrainian ratio. THAT's a war winning LOL count, given there just aren't that many surviving Russian WIA's any more. They shoot them themselves, and good on them.

And now, TRUMP of all people is saying it's 14 to 1. Yep, Trump claims that since the start of 2025, Russia has lost over 112,500 soldiers, while Ukraine has suffered around 8,000 military casualties. That'll be US estimates, not Ukrainian, amd it's higher than the Ukrainians are claiming. The Ukrainians are notably conservative on their kill count. Their drone units require video evidence, as they get bonus equipment based on Russian takeouts.

Systemic failure within Russia.........

Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin is waking up to more bad news:
- Russia’s Elite naval marines – trained in advanced amphibious landings - are now stranded in the forests of Ukraine’s Sumy, over 1100 kilometers/700 miles from the nearest coastline and they are surrounded by Ukrainian troops - signaling another dramatic failure of Kremlin strategy.

Globally, things are not looking any better: India’s top oil refiners have halted Russian crude imports, slashing a vital revenue stream for Moscow just as economic pressures mount.

How about in Russia’s Far East? A catastrophic 8.8 magnitude earthquake and tsunami have crippled Russia’s only Pacific nuclear submarine base at Vilyuchinsk, threatening the backbone of its strategic deterrent.

Meanwhile, in the rest of Russia? July alone saw over 2,000 internet shutdowns across Russia as the regime cracks down on the free flow of information and the actual digital infrastructure of Russia cracks.

Even worse for Moscow but good for Kyiv? Putin’s frozen billions are now being converted into ammunition for Ukraine. If Pres. Donald Trump supports the initiative, Trump will have served a significant blow to Putin.

Now?? The Ukraine is a cash cow for defense thanks to Europe. Why ever end the war??

Now?? The Ukraine is a cash cow for defense thanks to Europe. Why ever end the war??
Any war is a cash cow for the defense industry. Doesn't make any difference to the war, but the EU can outspend Russia, crash their economy teh way Reagan did, and destroy the Russian Federation

Updates Deom Denys
- Russia canceling their own commanders.....local commanders who speak up and are popular with their soldiers are being eliminated....by the Russians
- Trump is beginning to do what's right....sanctions on Putin to be applied....India been told to stop buying Russian oil and state refineries have halted buying Russian oil.
- US Senate backs $1 billion Pentagon spending for Ukraine

Russian oil refineries hit again.....

Overnight, Ukrainian drones hammered six Russian regions - destroying oil refineries in Samara, Ryazan, and Feodosia. Military communications in Penza were knocked out. Airports shut down. Fuel depots ablaze. Over 112 drones overwhelmed Russian defenses in the largest deep strike to date.

Russia’s energy backbone was shattered. Command centers were blinded. And now, as internet blackouts and refinery fires spread, Putin’s war machine is paralyzed.
