WASHINGTON, March 5 (Reuters) - U.S. Marshals have warned federal judges of unusually high threat levels as tech billionaire Elon Musk and other Trump administration allies ramp up efforts to discredit judges who stand in the way of White House efforts to slash federal jobs and programs, said several judges with knowledge of the warnings.

In recent weeks, Musk, congressional Republicans and other top allies of U.S. President Donald Trump have called for the impeachment of some federal judges or attacked their integrity in response to court rulings that have slowed the Trump administration's moves to dismantle entire government agencies and fire tens of thousands of workers.

Musk, the world's richest person, has lambasted judges in more than 30 posts since the end of January on his social media site X, calling them “corrupt,” “radical,” “evil” and deriding the "TYRANNY of the JUDICIARY" after judges blocked parts of the federal downsizing that he’s led. The Tesla CEO has also reposted nearly two dozen tweets by others attacking judges.

Reuters interviews with 11 federal judges in multiple districts revealed mounting alarm over their physical security and, in some cases, a rise in violent threats in recent weeks. Most spoke on condition of anonymity and said they did not want to further inflame the situation or make comments that could be interpreted as conflicting with their duties of impartiality. The Marshals Service declined to comment on security matters.

This reminds of the threats of violence we heard not long ago from people attending school board meetings.

Who told them to do that?!

The judge’s need to put there political views in there back pocket and enforce federal laws

Judge shatters Trump's plan to downsize federal agencies with bombshell ruling

A federal judge in California Friday night paused nearly all of President Donald Trump's efforts to dramatically downsize the federal workforce in the most significant lawsuit against his cost-cutting efforts thus far.

Judge Susan Illston in San Francisco issued the emergency order in the lawsuit filed last week by multiple labor unions and cities.

"The Court holds the President likely must request Congressional cooperation to order the changes he seeks, and thus issues a temporary restraining order to pause large-scale reductions in force in the meantime," Illston wrote in her order.

If ALL judges would leave there politics in there back pocket but they just can’t or won’t help themselves
Illigals should have 0 rights
After all they are illegal

If ALL judges would leave there politics in there back pocket
That would be unacceptable to the right. The Federalist Society exists to provide a pool of potential RW judges -- not judges who will keep their politics in their pockets.

Illigals should have 0 rights
After all they are illegal
Noncitizens, illegals included, have all the same legal and constitutional rights as citizens, except for residence and voting. That is the law.

So, is that the end of DOGE, or will they keep doing what they're doing but involve Congress in the process (so tedious!)?

Or will they handle this the Trump way and ignore the ruling?
who knows?

Threats of violence are unacceptable. Calls for impeachment are simply calls for exercising a constitutional political process. Nothing wrong with that.
Only if they remain threats. If judges are actually impeached, not for taking bribes or anything but for their judicial decisions as such, then we no longer have a constitutional republic.

Impeachment is a political process, not a legal process. As we’ve seen in recent times, they are highly partisan.

Exactly. Injecting that political process into the judicial process threatens the all-important independence of the judiciary.

Politics exist in every branch.
But the judiciary, even if it has its own politics, is supposed to be completely insulated from any political pressure from the other branches. That's why the Constitution specifies that judges' pay cannot be reduced.

Exactly. That’s why it’s extremely unlikely that the Republican Congress would impeach any judges who have issued rulings that have gone against the president’s actions, despite Elon Musk’s wishes that he expressed on X. The judicial branch has an appeals process where important issues can be ultimately adjudicated by the Supreme Court.

Congress itself has greatly diminished the political significance of impeachments. President Clinton emerged unscathed and fairly popular after his partisan impeachment, and President Trump achieved the greatest political comeback in modern history despite the two silly partisan impeachments he defiantly brushed off.
