No. And they never will deport all of the millions in the US illegally. What’s changed from previous deportations is that most of those were people apprehended at the border. It’s tougher finding and deporting illegals distributed in cities across the country. Takes more resources. We might see more funding for that in the reconciliation bill but it’s way too soon to know how that will go.

You must have been in a coma during the 2024 election cycle. Border control was a signature issue for Trump. “If you don’t have borders, you don’t have a country” was a standard line in every rally. At the moment of the assassination attempt he was pointing to a chart showing border encounters. Every poll ranked it as a high priority. Since a simple statement didn't communicate my idea I will go into detail.

Human beings are social animals. They live in groups known as societies. Those societies can be a simple as a tribe or as complex as a modern nation.

The main purpose of a society is to distribute power; who gets the power, what they can do with it, and the punishments for abusing it. For most of history that meant societies were based around the principle 'The strong do what they will and the weak suffer what they must'.

Many, usually the weak, thought this unfair. Some of the powerful came around to this idea as well. This lead to things like The Magna Carta which limited the power of the monarchy. Not that the nobles did this out of any altruism but it was a start.

History continued on that arc. More and more people came to realize that power needed to be limited. Unlimited power causes only misery. Even, eventually, for the powerful.

The modern age, in my opinion, started with the US Constitution. This document laid out a specific balance of power. It excluded wide swathes of the population but it did set the ground work. Over time that document was amended to allow more people to have power.

The point of this history recap is that a free society is a balanced one. In a free society no one has too little power and no one has too much. Which really pisses of the people who want more power, or those who once had too much and want it back.

It's why the current administration is getting rid of the things it is destroying. DEI allowed power to people who until recently had little power. Education and history could lead someone to believe that others should have power. So they are being destroyed. Only the 'right people' should be allowed power.

So, I say again.

Most people do not understand freedom and when they do they don't like it very much.

Why?

Freedom gets in the way of power.

While I agree in principle, I see things slightly differently than you post here.

DEI wasn't giving power to people, it was taking power and using it to bludgeon those who had little to no favor with the government. DEI was all about forcing compliance with an ideal rather than an reality. Which, at its core, is nothing but the application of brute power against the powerless.

As for freedom; if you look you'll notice that most conservatives don't really care what someone does inside their homes or what lifestyle they live. Most, not all. Nor is this unbounded as there are some things which even a tolerant society cannot accept.

OTOH, most progressives have no tolerance for the lives conservatives lead. They are vehemently anti-religion, anti-stability, and anti-society (as well as anti-social in many cases). In order to deal with this they create disorder in the name of order, denialism in the name of fairness, and anarchy in the name of organization. And then they blame those who do not espouse those ideals as the cause or reason for the collapse of their dreams.

These things aren't new, nor are they rooted in maintaining power over the weak or powerless. These are things which a normal and healthy society must have in order for everyone to flourish as much as they can without anyone having to suffer and do without so that a favored few may be elevated into prosperity.
