What Are You Thinking? Continued 14

I’ll see it for nostalgia sake, but I have no hopes lol.

If Minecraft isn’t cringey, they’re doing it wrong, so boring really is the worst thing it can be.

Yes, it's the internet and there are too few rules or safeguards regarding this sort of thing.

It's also a Community.
Same faces, same people. Mostly everyday. Laughing and talking, sharing memes, common interests and sometimes pictures.
It's a closer connected group of people in many ways than can just be brushed away by saying, "It's the internet...so fair game."

Trust is an easy thing to mangle.

Perhaps what, in most clear opinion, needn't have been previously said now has.
And we see it now as a breach of trust.
Because that is what it is.

If anyone is still wondering, it's wrong to download pictures of the people here who move past their own vulnerability to share here with us.

From the meme thread

For those with bearded partners: would you want to see your partner without a beard? Is that an option?

Some of you may have seen the videos of children seeing their dad after shaving a beard. It's trauma!

I've had my beard continously for over 25 of my 53 years. It's been in its current state for about 20. I've often joked that shaving my beard is my anti-aging plan because I expect I'd look younger shaving the gray beard away, but I don't think I would/will ever do it.

Thoughts from those with bearded partners?
When I had that partner....
It was definitely not an option to remove ...

Sounds like he's wallpapering a few rooms.
I had a friend whose downstairs loo was called the little boys room because the room was decorated wall to wall in tasteful pictures of gorgeous nude men and a small collection of rubber duckies. Lace curtains on the windows. I have pictures somewhere.

I thinking about Ukraine’s deadly sea drones and how they can shoot down helicopters from the Black Sea.
They have already sank 1/4 of the Russian naval assets in the Black Sea.

Whatever the opposite of a tolerance break is, that’s what I’ll be doing today 🤗

The photo download debate?
Yeah. I dunno, maybe I'm just naive. Or I just assumed that anyone disrespectful enough to do it would be a lurker who never built relationships here. Or maybe I thought that those who do knew that it's a bad thing and wouldn't admit it so casually like we're the problem for not assuming our images would be downloaded without permission.

Anyway I've just double checked my photo sharing accounts to make sure anything I posted is deleted and I won't be sharing again - or if I do it will be with extreme caution and definitely not for a long time.

I wonder if folks might start posting only to group chats with trusted friends.

I think this is going leave a mark. It certainly removed a veil of ignorance.

I don't think that's naive. I'd always assumed, amongst the "regulars", that there was both the mutual respect and an unspoken agreement that they/we don't do things like that.

I mean, the browser will always download the photo anyway, in order to display it, so it can be there in someone's browser cache (assumptions being made about browser settings etc.), but to explicitly (har har) download it for... some purpose... I don't get it. It just crosses a boundary that I thought existed. An unspoken, unwritten, boundary, for sure, but a boundary nonetheless.

That's a shame, but I completely understand. I wonder if a number of other regular photo-posters might do the same.

They shouldn’t.

Here’s the truth no one wants to say out loud. It’s not just “bad actors” or strangers doing this. It’s people women trusted.

It’s always “they would never” till they do.

I’m glad this conversation is happening, because finally, people are getting a peek behind the curtain.

And let’s just say it plainly - the compulsive drive to collect, organize, and hoard pornography, especially without consent, isn’t just creepy. It’s a sign of deeper disordered behaviour that no one wants to admit, but here we are.

People aren’t thinking big enough, tbh. AI is already being used on Lit, by content creators themselves or by nameless strangers that use your catalog to create their own version of you.

Consent doesn’t matter when the tech doesn’t ask.

And when the fantasy is just convincing enough, who’s going to stop and wonder if it was ever really you?

Please, protect yourselves.
