Been in stocks at a renaissance festival
Just FYI.... that is a pillory which binds your head/neck and wrists in a standing/bent over position. Stocks bind your feet/ankles in a seated position.Been in stocks at a renaissance festival
Totally helpless feeling
You have no idea who’s behind you
Thank you Proximus, I'm sure most of us learned that in history class but I've forgotten the difference even after seeing it mentioned at historic sites and reading of being "pilloried" in many romance novels.Just FYI.... that is a pillory which binds your head/neck and wrists in a standing/bent over position. Great point, Dash. I know what the word is, but I still think of being pilloried as being similar to being stoned to death.Thank you Proximus, I'm sure most of us learned that in history class but I've forgotten the difference even after seeing it mentioned at historic sites and reading of being "pilloried" in many romance novels.
Actually sitting in stocks as opposed to standing in a pillory means there is less need to be concerned about windy days when wearing a sundress. Tho being stoned to death isn' a great option.Great point, Dash. I know what the word is, but I still think of being pilloried as being similar to being stoned to death.
Thanks. And for anyone reading, I was trying to be informative, not judgmental or condescending.Thank you Proximus, I'm sure most of us learned that in history class but I've forgotten the difference even after seeing it mentioned at historic sites and reading of being "pilloried" in many romance novels.
Hope I didn't sound bratty, I was serious about so many of us not making the distinction. I in no way took it as judgmental and truly enjoyed the reminder of the difference. Thank you.Thanks. And for anyone reading, I was trying to be informative, not judgmental or condescending.
And I hope I win the lottery.Hope I didn't sound bratty
