Well, that's a matter of debate. Social democrats were traditionally associated with Marxism until they began diverging on the nationalization issue, beginning in the 1920s with Weimar and continuing later with Willy Brandt. It should be noted that not all socialism is Marxist and also that when Bernie Sanders calls himself a "democratic socialist," what he really means is "social democracy." I think that he's still in the habit of thinking of himself that way, because he used to be a much more leftist guy.

Restoring labor unions to their former power would help. But it wouldn't really solve the problem. From WWII to the 1970s American manufacturing had the world market pretty much to itself -- but eventually Germany and Japan recovered from the war and got their manufacturing chops together. (In the 1950s and 1960s, "Made in Japan:" was a punchline.) And then around the same time, American businesses figured out how much cheaper the labor was and how much weaker the unions were in Third World countries.

In the world today, the only thing that could possibly make middle-class incomes accessible to the working class is socialism.

I have seen a bunch of people die...a shit load compared to your average John Q Public.

It quit upsetting me when I was about 10 and realized death is the inevitable finish line for all, it could come at any time. From disease, accident, murder, natural disaster and sometimes even a freak occurrence that snatches you from existence in the blink of an eye, like a 7.62x51R round with your name on it coming out of deep left field.

So live in spite of death, not in fear of it....you have to realize and accept that some day you will die and it might not be when your 80 and surrounded by family, enjoy it while it last.

Nobody does jail time for doing business without an occupational permit -- which is nothing but a minor revenue stream for local government anyway; you don't have to pass any kind of test to get one.
