I adapt it a bit for my tastes. Generally, I use about half the amount of honey as I use sweet Washington Bings. And, I add more almond extract because I like it.

I remember those days. The worst cold I was in was in Denver CO at Lowry AFB going to tech school. The place ran 24 7 and we had to march to school. I don't know the acutal temps anymore but some guys got frost bite and after that we could just walk to classes.

My dad was stationed at Lowry!

Good lord! I’m all caught up.

Let the days mayhem commence. We are almost out of bigger quality hardwood that I sell at our woodstand, so today I’m gonna buck (round) a bunch of dead ash trees, load em on my trailer and bring em down to the farm buildings to be split.

It’s gonna be much warmer.

I have five cords of silver maple which isn’t as good firewood as oak, ash, other types of maple.

A few people told me no one would know the difference, I could just sell silver maple since I have so much of it at the same price.

But I would know. And I won’t sell an inferior product.

And I need to split a bunch of kindling, since we’re almost out of that too.

Anything by M_storyman_x is good imo but specifically High School Dates (misleading title as are much of his) is the story of high school sweethearts and their trials through life as adults, lovers, and soulmates. If your interested, Eves_Garden writes and performs several audio novels (truck driving days) that are just splendid. Currently waiting on the last 3 chapters of Noah and Kate to drop.

I’ll third the blackberry love. Have to be careful in these parts, as the black snakes like those thickets also! .

When we lived in Germany, the Germans would let you walk through their fields, or at least the borders, which were these huge hedgerows, usually blackberry thickets. Like some were 8’ tall and so thick you couldn’t penetrate more than a foot or two into them. The village we lived in would all come out and pick a bucket. When our first son was born, I had him in one of those chest snuggly things. I was leaning in to grab a nice fat berry when he started crying…you guessed it, blackberry cane thorn scratch. SWhoMBO, was NOT happy.

Snow is melting away. Got out for some Pho last night and the temps are starting to edge north of freezing during th day. Night time it’s still hovering in the high 20’s. Everyone have a nice weekend. Your MZ:

There are wild blackberries everywhere around here. I had a small farmhouse on a couple of acres when I first moved to WA. There were TONS of blackberry bushes on my property. I never did anything with them until I met my husband. He picked some and, OMG!, they were sweet! After that, I started picking with a vengeance! Armed with a long sleeved shirt, heavy gloves, boots, and loppers, I would pick what I could reach, then lop off the canes to get further in.

I so love you guys…..yes we were battered yesterday as our house is on the side of a hill facing west. We look out down the estuary and out to sea on the west coast and a little south of the worst hit area!. I am pleased to say there is no damage just a few branches down. Lots of general damage but we survived unscathed! Farm buildings in particular, lost roofs etc.

I'm so glad you came out of it unharmed! I did have some thoughts that you might have been out shooting in that weather! Then thought, "Nah! He's not THAT crazy! Is he?"

I remember when I complained that candy bars went up to 25 cents. My grandpa told me that a full size Hershey's Chocolate Bar was 5 cents when he was a boy.

I just looked at a bag of M&Ms in the gas station. $3.65 for a freeking bag!

I wasn't going to buy any, and after looking at the price I absolutely wasn't going to buy any!

As we were on the subject of blackberries this morning... the blackberry cobbler the wife made this evening turned out amazing. Best she's ever made!

No, I'm not sharing this batch. And, no I'm not sorry!

I have a friend with a little 5 acre farm. She and her husband, both in their 80s, manage by themselves. Every year I get invited to come pick and keep all I pick. Maybe I will this year.

Today is laundry day. Finished painting bathroom cabinet.... now I have decided that i want to paint the mirror..... haha

Need to get the cabinet legs cut down 1/4 inch so i can fit it where I want it.... have to figure that out.

I hadn’t gotten to it yet, but I’ll give it a whirl next weekend.

Ended up getting some more ash for firewood. Damn the wood must be frozen in the middle. It was tougher than expected getting thru the wood. (Heh heh)

But got a lot done today. Either me or my farm hand will split it this week.

I somehow accidentally contaminated my work space with what I'm pretty sure is mold.

So, today has been completely disassembling the office. Washed every single item, including the desk. Wife washed the walls and ceilings. Need to shampoo the carpet next. Then reassemble.

It's going to be a long weekend...

It's an out-of-town work assignment. The office is a bit over 3 hours away. The first job is 2 hours and 45 minutes from the house. I'm trying out AirBnBs for lodging. I signed on to my first one, and it's half of what the allowance they'll give me is. Once I will be somewhere for awhile, then I can do some serious shopping.


I'm looking forward to it.
