While this America settles in the mould of its vulgarity,
heavily thickening to empire,
And protest, only a bubble in the molten mass, pops
and sighs out, and the mass hardens,

I sadly smiling remember that the flower fades to make fruit,
the fruit rots to make earth.
Out of the mother; and through the spring exultances,

You making haste haste on decay: not blameworthy; life

A mortal splendor: meteors are not needed less than
mountains: shine, perishing republic.

But for my children, I would have them keep their

Liberals Say This State Has the “Craziest” Gun Laws – It’s Also the Safest State​

Does progressive Vermont have the nation’s craziest gun laws? That’s certainly what liberals outside of the state seem to think.
The state’s better-known Senator, Bernie Sanders, found himself under fire from his fellow candidates during the 2016 Democrat primary for the crime of having “only” a D- rating from the NRA. In particular, Sanders found himself defending a completely rational vote of his: when in 2005 he voted in favor of legislation granting gun manufacturers legal immunity from being sued by gun victims (just like how we don’t hold General Motors liable for car fatalities).

Despite being one of the most liberal states, if not the most liberal, Vermont surprisingly has a gun culture.

The Trace (a website started with funding by “Every Town for Gun Safety”) chided Vermont as a “gun rights paradise,” quoting one gun-rights activist as saying that “Vermont, for over 220 years, has never had permits, has never had registration, and has never had any serious gun control laws.”
Vermont sounds like a scene out of Mad Max when described by the anti-gun lobby, but the state’s residents would probably laugh at the characterization. Vermont was the safest state in the nation in 2016, 2017, and 2018, second safest in 2019 and 2020, and the safest in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

I agree, even not being a chess person. It's the dress code that makes no sense to me. Somebody in their "Governing" body needs a kick in the nuts.

On the one hand I sort of agree.

On the other; there are rules we must follow. We can do whatever we wish, in private. But, when in public we must follow those rules I just mentioned. One of which is that we have to wear clothes which fit the scene.

The chess tournament has a dress code which attempts to make what is, arguably, the most boring of contests, classy. If someone wishes to participate, then they must obey the rules and be classy in both manner and dress. Failure to do so means they don't get to play with the rest of the class.

It is akin to contracts which the NFL/NBA/whatever letter combination sports orgs you want have with players regarding bad conduct, including off the field. Again, if you want to play, you must obey the rules.

Lawyers must wear "mourning clothes" to court. People have to "dress" for church (and dinner sometimes.) and so on. You either do it, or get snubbed/ousted.

In this case, Carlsen got the org to loosen the dress code but there's a catch. It has to be "elegant." Which is undefined and subject to interpretation. Which is often abused by those in power against certain persons. A situation many orgs have faced and have retreated from after reconsideration once the misuses and abuses begin. We shall see if Chess is one of those in that group.
