Let's buy Greenland

Trump is such an Effective Leader that he can make Panama and Greenland and Canada increase spending on services that benefit the USA…. Before he even takes office.

Thats pretty fucking cool, even if you don’t like him.
None have actually increased spending nor changed their policies, except Canada and all they've done is pledge a change.

trump is such a blowhard. He has the rationale of a kid in a candy store with mom's money.

First of all, buy, purchase, a contract between willing parties.

1. The US has had a continuous military presence in Greenland since 1941.

2. Denmark was, is, and will continue to be incapable of protecting their interests in Greenland.

3. If, as the hand wringing bed wetters insist, that the Arctic ice is going to all melt then the Arctic Ocean is going to become a major oceanic trans-shipment body of water. Those waters will need to be patrolled to protect from parties that would want to control those sea lanes for their own purposes. Two not so friendly powers, Russia and China, have designs on the Arctic and Canada, with their 50 canoe Navy, just isn't up to the task.

Purchasing Greenland from Denmark makes perfect sense if you think long term. Remember, a lot of people made fun of Jefferson with his "Louisiana Purchase" and "Seward's Folly", the Alaskan purchase.
It makes a lot of sense but will Denmark sell?

There are no concrete plans for Greenlandic independence - and the Danish Parliament decides if or when that changes.
Their interests are represented by 2 seats in the Danish Parliament (out of 179).

Greenland has talked about independence for a very long time, but does not have a size or economy to make that a reality. They are currently subsidized by the Danish state with approximately 500 million USD per year.

None of those countries has increased spending on “services that benefit the USA.”

That’s pREttY fUCkIng COol. 😄

Thanks for the article :)

I had a look, and if you read it more carefully, you will see that it confirms my post.
Greenland has developed a strategy that it hopes will lead to more independence. But none of that is a right.
There are very specific areas that Greenland has been given autonomous rule over.
Independence is not one of them.

Things probably look a little different from here in Denmark :)

Denmark’s not Greenland’s only choice.

There’s also a school of thought that involves Greenland joining Canada.

Making Greenland a full part of North America should be a priority for Canada

The U.S., the E.U. and Iceland are all increasing ties with Greenland. It wants to work strategically with Canada. It’s a critical opportunity.
Once again, there is no 'Greenland's choice'.
Greenland is a part of Denmark and does not have the right to decide otherwise.

Here's the "money" shot Lance;

"This yearly payment commenced in 2009, but even then it was evident that it would not serve as a sustainable support for Greenland’s economy. Because of Greenland’s increasing public spending, decreasing profits from fisheries, aging population, and low-skilled labor force, Greenlandic politicians view “large-scale extractive industries as the sole viable pathway toward achieving a self-sustaining economy.” One year later, the Mineral Resources Act was passed, granting Greenland the rights to revenue generated from mining activities and prompting the territory to seek partnerships with Chinese mining companies. In 2013, Greenland’s parliament made the decision to lift the ban on uranium extraction, allowing Greenland to participate in large-scale development. Now that Greenland is actively participating in the mining and selling of their rare earth elements, it could be said that Greenland is hoping for independence through economic prosperity."

They can neither sustain themselves nor defend themselves. Denmark won't be able to sustain them and can't defend them and we damn sure aren't going to let the Chinese in.

Open question to the Peanut Gallery, "Does anyone believe that China will engage in 'responsible' mineral extraction?"

Ha ha ha!

It’s just a matter of time; ask the Brits.
"In February, the Government of Greenland presented its first Foreign, Security, and Defense Strategy 2024 - 2033. Titled 'Greenland in the World - Nothing about us without us,' the strategy aims to form stronger ties with Arctic North America and hold a leading role in the Arctic Council."

Seriously? Somebody got into that magic blubber.

Welcome to the board or Velkommen! Sad to inform you that you are engaging with a person who has no desire to reply back to you.
Your apparent residence in Denmark poses a serious threat to exposing him and the cut and paste narrative he is trying to convey.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.

  1. In 2019 Trump floated the idea of buying Greenland.
  2. The prime minister of Denmark said the idea was “absurd”.
  3. Trump threw a fit, called the prime minister “nasty” and cancelled a scheduled trip to Denmark.
  4. In 2024 Trump floated the idea of buying Greenland …

This is the dumbest, most ridiculous, pathetic crap to come out of the Buffoon's ignorant piehole. Not to mention it's very Hitleresque.

Fun fact -- Hitler used the Panama Canal to escape to South America where he resides and advises the current President-elect.

The usual leftards are treating this as a joke.....................it's not. This is deadly serious business and Trump is deadly serious.
It was not serious business in his first term -- why would it be different now?

The thought did cross my mind that global warming is probably going to open up a lot more of its land for settlement...then I remembered the people who support buying Greenland don't believe in global warming!
More land will appear because global warming will make sea levels rise? Is that why Obama likes ocean front property? As a side point, the USA doesn't have a "rainy day" fund for buying Greenland. So, it would be best if Elon buys it. I also wonder if there would be interest in using it as a place to ship illegal aliens. Not the mainland but one of the off shore little islands. I know that they were not welcome on Martha's Vineyard Island. But maybe Greenland would be a sanctuary ice burg.
