What if you asked what they’re thinking of getting someone you both know? Get a sense of how much they’re spending on them?

I would say pick one thing in the middle.
I also have a tendency to let those who get me gifts have access to my Amazon for ideas.
That's just how it works for me though.
Luckily, hugs are always appreciated and cost-effective.
