U.S. fears Iran attack on Israel; tells diplomatic staff not to travel

The United States believes that an Iranian attack on Israel may be imminent and has instructed its diplomatic employees in Israel not to travel far from their homes in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Be’er Sheva in the south.

The warning came after days of threats by Iran to retaliate against Israel for an airstrike April 1 in Damascus, Syria, that killed two generals and five officers responsible for attacks on Israel via terrorist proxy armies in recent months.

Israel warned that if Iran launches an attack on Israel directly from Iranian territory, it will retaliate against Iran directly — not against Iran-backed Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, or militias in Iraq.

U.S. senators are criticizing the Biden Administration for putting Americans in “harm's way” after Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo admitted that the $6 billion the president unfroze last year likely went to fund violent activity— and not humanitarian needs.

During his testimony on Tuesday before the Senate Banking Committee, Adeyemo acknowledged that for Iran “any dollar they have will go towards their violent activity before they deal with their people.”

His admission comes after Republicans warned the Biden Administration last year not to unfreeze the funds for Iran in exchange for Americans being held hostage, arguing that the money would go directly into the pockets of terrorists— which it did. Shortly after the Biden Administration handed over billions of dollars to Iran, Hamas terrorists launched a terrorist attack in Israel, killing more than 1,200 civilians, including women and children.

But many of us have said this before. The fact is Joe Biden is either felony naive or he's knowingly helping Iran's terrorist agenda. Every American President has publicly assured the American people in no uncertain terms that Iran will not be permitted to attain a nuclear weapon, except this one.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Iran launched dozens of drones and ballistic missiles toward Israel late Saturday in an unprecedented revenge mission that pushed the Middle East ever closer to a regionwide war.

The attack marked the first time Iran had ever launched a direct military assault on Israel, despite decades of enmity dating back to the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Israel's military said over 100 drones had been fired but that its air defenses were prepared for the attack and it was ready to respond. It didn't mention ballistic missiles, which are less easily shot down, but Iran said they were part of the attack. The U.S., with its large troop presence in the region, said it would provide unspecified support to Israel.

“The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defense against these threats from Iran,” National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement.

Iran informed Turkey in advance of its planned operation against Israel, a Turkish diplomatic source told Reuters on Sunday, adding that Washington had conveyed to Tehran via Ankara that any action it took had to be "within certain limits."

The Turkish source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had spoken to both his US and Iranian counterparts in the past week to discuss the planned Iranian operation, adding Ankara had been made aware of possible developments.

Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to Fidan to make clear that escalation in the Middle East was not in anyone's interest.

"Iran informed us in advance of what would happen. Possible developments also came up during the meeting with Blinken, and they (the US) conveyed to Iran through us that this reaction must be within certain limits," the source said.

That's not what he did. He gave them a line that would result in the US retaliating, which is why Iran consulted with them in the first place.

I guarantee the actual conversation involved red lines, like the targeting of civilians, the use of chemical or biological weapons, or maybe even a dirty bomb, which would automatically trigger a massive American military response.

Basically: “Fuck around (too much) and find out.”

Iran was likely “told” (informed) what kind of attack would result in the end of the current regime and the country of Iran as we now know it.

Basically: “The more you know”.

It appears Iran, knowing those red lines, launched an impotent attack that was easily countered . Now there is a chance that there won’t be an escalation or widening of the conflict,



It was ALSO good practice and readiness training for the U.S. and Israeli armed forces, and lessons learned will likely yield dividends in Ukraine and elsewhere.
