The BDSM Book Club Discussion Thread

I don't know. I wouldn't want to read for twelve hours straight even though I love reading. I hate it when work is slow but I'm stuck there.

No I have up to 12 hours to read... so its easy to finish a book in one day Fury.

It's good but it's not the first. Dead Witch Walking is the first. The second book is actually a better read though. At this point, we should probably switch this convo to the Reading Books for Pleasure thread.

1.) Did you like the book overall or not?

No, I really didn't like it much at all. I was put off from the get go that I was reading about sex when I didn't even know the characters.

2.) Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

I don't think it did BDSM much at all. It was into kink and dominance but those were not done in a real or for me, a positive way. It REALLY wasn't my way.

3.) Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

Not much. I mean they had their moments but there is NO way I would be willing to fuck in front of a bullet proof plate glass window to draw out a pervert who had been sneaking into my room and trying to drag me away at times, shooting a gun into the house at other times. I didn't like the whole, if you fuck me you have to fuck everyone else in the world that I want you too also thing. It was way contrived IMO. Some real background on just why the three brothers have to fuck their women all together would have helped if done well.

4.) Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

No. The story didn't really hold together. I didn't know why the pervert wanted her. I didn't like her or her "uncles" all of whom wanted to fuck her and she them.

5.) Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

If it were better, perhaps.

6.) What did you like best about this selection?

The guest character that wisely left.

7.) What did you like the least?

The characters. The lead male in particular seemed like an ass to me.

8.) How would you have changed the story?

Better characters that were more defined would have helped a great deal. The end that basically said that the pervert was simply being controlled by another REALLY pissed me off. I know it was just to set up a whole series but I didn't feel that was at all reasonable.

Chronologically that is not correct story wise either. I'm thinking it's a typo or something.

Did you read February's BDSM club book selection btw?

It was Marley's Choice. You can always find all the selections we've ever had in the first post on this thread btw.

Ok I guess that is what I learned today.

Did anyone else read Marley's Choice? If so chime in!

Grace did you find being thrown into a sex scene before we were even introduced to the characters jarring like I did?

Did you like the main guy?

Let's discuss!

Fury :rose:

Would I like him personally? No. Did I like him for fantasy reasons? OH YEAH!

As for being thrown directly into a sex scene - when I was sick and in the hospital the last time I spent most of my time reading erotica and porn. Frankly their's a hell of a lot more written porn then their is erotica - I guess I got imune to being dropped in the middle of a sex scene. lol

Interesting! I must say I'd be too uptight to read porn in the hospital. I'd be worried someone would notice and judge me. God that's horrible. I thought I was over worrying about that.

I thought it was strange that he needed her to agree to have sex with his two brothers, her two other uncles who had raised her and a random female.

I assume later in the series she finds it turns her on but it was all too quick with too little character background and development for me to like. Was it for you as well?

LOL It was one of those computers wher eyou have to be behind the person to see what they'r ereading. And what would have drove me batty is sitting and watching television for ELEVEN DAYS STRAIGHT. Have you seen that movie, Overboard? Where Goldie Hawn sits on the couch and goes 'buh buh buh buh'. That'd be me after 11 days of television. Besides my roommate was a heroin addict with a nasty infection and creepy visitors who kept monoplizing the bathroom- I looked like Jesus Christ next to her.

Fury :rose:

Later on you find out that she's been listening to his girlfriends and knows about the sex with the two uncles, and is expecting it. Frankly a good deal of Lora Leigh's books have three-somes in them, it's obviously one of her big fantasy's. lol As for the sex with the chick - well that just ticked me off. I'm glad she chewed his ass for it. Frankly that's why I won't read that book, cause that part just TOTALLY ruins it for me. *grr*

Yeah I knew about the listening and "knowing" what to expect thing but I still found it to be too much to expect.

Tell me this though. Would you have agreed to do it in front of a plate bullet proof glass window???

Fury :rose:

HELL no. Once we had a van, with those windows that you can't see in? K found a well lit, but deserted parkng lot, and wanted to have sex. We had to move cause every few seconds I was like 'IS THAT A CAR?'. Then he'd say 'no one can see in'. Didn't matter - I could see OUT and it was creeping me out. lol

But there's many things that are hot to fantasize about that I woulnd't enjoy in r/l, ya know? Like rape.

LOL!

I'd be the same way and even worse if I thought a damn pervert was watching. Not my scene for sure!

Fury :rose:

Yep, pretty much. I think that K's a bit into exhibitionism, but it's never happened cause i am stiff as a board and dry as a bone. lol It does not turn my buttons in the slightest.

Me either.

I just thought the man had a damned long list of "have tos" for a guy that was like a father to her and was never going to fuck her in the first place.

LOL.

Yeah it was a bit too incesty to me.

To Serve and Submit by Susan Wright.

Did you like the book overall or not?

I did like the book overall. At first it seemed a bit shallow and forced but soon I was more interested in it. I think it could have been written better but I enjoyed it.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

I think it doesn't show it as that positive or real. I think it doesn't really show it my way but it does show some aspects of a submissive mind my way.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

I did like some of them, I think. I read it near the first of the month and can't recall them with any clarity though.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I loved the idea of going to a training facility in which there was a Mistress and a Master. That really turns me on. I liked it best when the lead character was "free" and politics got involved. I really liked the nature spirits in the book as well. So over all, yes, I did like the rest of the book.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes, particularly if the same characters were in it.

What did you like best about this selection?

I really liked the title. I loved the cover art. Both of those things "spoke" to me. I also liked the things noted above.

What did you like the least?

I did not like the writing at first. It seemed too surface and didn't reveal much.

I didn't like the girl being sold by her family.

I didn't like the Mistress being a total bitch to pretty much everyone. That is a major fantasy of mine and to have her not have an redeeming qualities, well, that really pissed me off.

I didn't like, not being able to understand what the Master was, and how he was limited, if he were some sort of God.

How would you have changed the story?

Even though the girl was willing to be sold, I wouldn't have written it that way.

Even though the Mistress would have been tough and demanding in a book I wrote, she would have also had some soft points as well and been, well, more human.

I would have explained this "Gods with limits" thing much more.

That's about it. Who else read the book? What's your POV? Please share!

Who here has a sex life based on anger and childhood abuse???

This isn't about the March selection but I must rant a bit.

After reading several so called BDSM books by popular authors I am really wondering why they write about something they clearly know so little about.

I mean for me it's not about anger and childhood abuse. If it were I don't think I'm be real comfortable with my life or sexuality. If it is that for someone else, I feel sorry for them but if they are "comfortable" with that, okay. *shrugs*

I can only assume these people write about it because it seems cutting edge and cool to them. I'm assuming they don't understand the underlying motivations for BDSM.

Also, not every character is Bi and a Switch. You can have enough characters in your book to cover all those aspects if you like.

A plea to writers; no matter what you are writing, try to write it well and with some realism please!

LOL.
