Taking a lesson from YouTubers, in my latest story, I included an author's note at the end that asks the reader to vote, favorite, comment, and follow. It also links to two of my other stories that have a similar vibe to this one.

I know it is extrapolating from one instance, but it seems to have really paid off. Over 50 new followers, 40+ faves, a crazy number of votes for the number of views, and, more comments than any of my other stories have gotten. And those other two stories have seen an uptick in views and votes.

Y'all might want to try doing something similar.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

If you did, why not throw a star or two on it? Or a heart? Better yet, drop a comment to let me know what you thought. Stars are nice, but hearing from you, the reader, means a lot. Even if it's critical, give it to me straight.

I write many different kinds of stories, but if you like romantic tales, you might also enjoy:

Our New Nude Life (Exhibitionist & Voyeur - 19K words)

A college couple ponder the shape of their future together.

Last Summer (First Time - 9K words)

Lifelong friends face being separated forever.

Could be just because it is a damn good story. Well written, well thought out, good pacing, and I fell in love with the characters. I gave it 5* the day it came out.

I don't know about Romance category in particular, but this story has 40+ comments with fewer than 10k views, and that's a crazy ratio. So regardless of its undoubtedly high quality, there seems to be something to OP's advice.

By far your best scoring story which may have had a lot to do with the number of comments and followers.
There's a lot of confounding variables, but I'm going to keep doing it on my submissions from here on, until I get some indication it is doing more harm than good.

this story has 40+ comments with fewer than 10k views,
6.8K, actually, and it has 510 votes, 45 favorites. I gather that Romance tends to get more of that kind of feedback than other categories, but that much? And my follower count went up by 40%, on my 16th submission, some of which have multiple tens K views.

I know this is not a controlled test, and I could be fooling myself, but it looks like it has an effect.

My highest ever rated story ended like this:

Tell you what, I'll do you a deal, okay, give me your 5 vote, and I'll give you the whole of Chapter Two, the concluding part of this tale. Vote 5. I need the incentive.

It worked a treat, catapaulting my story to the toplist, and massively increasing my views, 5-ratings and followers. It was a really good story, even by my high standards, but so are a lot of unpopular ones.

I started doing that many years ago.

I noticed that other incest authors with similar views to mine, had a lot more votes and comments. A much higher ratio. I noticed they asked for votes at the begining or end of a story.

So I left a note that said 'votes appreciated' or something... and my votes went up. So I started doing that ever since.

Maybe we should really adorn our stories with all the fluff that youtubers put into their videos?... Here, let me try.

I think it's a shame authors need to ask a readership that gets to enjoy everything for free to take two seconds to vote and another few to leave something as basic as a "Great story" remark. Shows how taken for granted fee content is.

But ironically, the trolls? No hesitation to vote and comment. Say what you will about them, they put the effort in.

I just found the BEST (and funniest) example of this: https://www.literotica.com/s/cyber-mittens

It also happens to be fucking hot.

"Samantha: I hope you enjoyed this story.

Samantha: Last time, we said that only 0.6% of the people who read Mittens actually rated it, and fewer than one in ten thousand commented, and we'd love it if you'd click that button.

Samantha: And I guess simply asking politely worked pretty well, because three per cent of the people who read Schrödinger's Mittens rated it!

Nina: :D

Nina: 3% was awesome. We're super grateful. It doesn't sound like a lot but that's five times as many people, and we were honestly surprised and delighted.

Nina: 5% would be extra-super-duper-special awesome, and we'd be extra-extra-super-duper-squelchy-grateful. If one in twenty people who read this story give it a rating - and it only takes a second - then we'll be very, very happy.

Nina: Are you a special, "One in twenty" sort of person? Would you like to be? Hit that button!

Nina: And Sam will do that thing I like. :)

Samantha: You mean... that thing?

Nina: No, the other thing.

Samantha: Ah, that thing.

Samantha: Yes. I will. ;)

Samantha: If we made you come so hard that money came out, and now you don't know what to do with that soggy money, you can actually buy a copy of Mittens for your e-book reader!

Samantha: Check our website (in the author profile), or just Google for it. Our porn-writing name is "Phoenix Baker."

Samantha: Also, remember - the best way to know when we post a new story is to add FeatherWatt (our author username here at Literotica) to your Favorites list, so you get notified whenever we put up something new."
