Poetry Fun Corner

Your subject is 'Who shouldn't wear shorts!'.

Hell of a challenge there! So, this is what I came up with. Not quite my usual thing, but that's the fun of it, right?

Shorts? For You?

If you have...
Legs that are thick
or thought much too thin
Skin that is pale, splotchy
maybe veiny or frail
Knees that knock, are knobby, or sexy
enough to make menfolk gawk
An ass that is flat, or wide,
or sticks way out behind
Who cares for all that?

When weather warms, and your form
longs for less, to be free at last
When you reach for your shorts, and think
"who are these for?"
You fear those who may look askance
suggest you should be in longer pants

Well, fuck them! I say, in indignant retort

You want to know "Who shouldn't wear shorts?"

Anyone who's cold or playing in snow
Perhaps don't at work or where ticks may lurk
Through spring, summer, on into fall
when the temperatures climb
Don't just grin and bear it
or be afraid of baring it
You shouldn't not wear shorts,
because shorts are for all!

Maybe later, if I have a bit of time, I can put some work in the meter and rhyme :D

thanks, annie... when i'm not melting i might be able to write somethin'

Choosing the right name for a cat
...is not some simple act

in fact it can be tricky
poor choices can be icky

and what might suit a kitten
may leave grown cats unsmitten

and how people may blink
if you shout out names that stink

and what once sounded quirky
might morph to something irky

it seems to me the name
should be no cause of shame

mogs own their honorifics
from twee to quite terrific

and cats with eyes aglisten
will tell you -- if you listen

Great stuff and of course they will!

To make the honey was ordained
before my birth, I tucked in cell,
sleeping still but already chained,
to seek the nectar feed the swell.
Buzzing, onwards unconstrained
into Phlox and sweet Bluebell.
.
Are the best ones bold and veined,
or trumpeting, I creep into a well?
All of these are colour stained
but what's important is the smell!
Buzzing, onwards unconstrained
into Phlox and sweet Bluebell.
.
So from centuries long ingrained
of Worker Bees who fly pell mell,
flitting onwards pollen stained
happy just for each sunshine spell.
Buzzing, onwards unconstrained
draining Phlox and sweet Bluebell.

k, another for you and you can return the favour:

(as in liquid ink, not a tattoo, though if it ends up a tattoo that's up to you)

If someone wants to give me a new assignment, I'm ready, I think. :)

Calli.............. Vultures (the birds)!

Vultures was such an interesting one. Thanks, Annie. Hope this fits the bill. :)

Clean-up Crew

Untroubled, they circle
catching currents
riding high
looking for work

The job a dirty one
uneasy on the eyes
tending to messes
life left behind

Fresh kill prized
but rotting meat will do
infested and diseased
the way this feels
broken-hearted begging
just come and take me

Lying amongst dandelions and daisies
I pray to be picked clean
exposed to the bone
set free from you burrowed in my marrow

Let me be carrion
become one with the birds
warmed in horaltic pose
soar on regal wings
span the distance between here
and release

Claim my remains
when they're through
carve them in to art
engraved with your name
craft me into something new

Well done you more than fit the bill or given the subject bill?

Mostly turkey vultures here, although my partner, a keen birder, tells me the black are moving north along with everything else.

So ugly up close, so beautiful up high soaring on the thermals. But life's like that.

By the way horaltic is my word of the day, I had to look it up although I'm sure she would have been happy and perhaps a bit smug to tell me.

Thanks, Piscator! Took me a bit of time to figure out what to do with vultures, and I learned a few things, and a couple new words, my self. I think we mostly have turkey vultures here, since those are the ones I've seen, and while they aren't the most handsome birds, I've got new respect for them now. :)

Todski your subject is 'Wearing a Yellow Shirt'!

I wondered if I was
all animal
the way the ruffles of your yellow shirt
drew my eyes down
till my face blushed red

it's been a while since I flushed in the presence of a woman
my cool demeanour burnt up
as you caught me staring
took me back to
teenage hormones
angst rising
slowly

Finally!!
..........
It was something to be written
across the night sky
with the orange ink of fireworks,
Scrawled in purple tones on vellum,
a love to float helium balloons,
a new fabulous excitement
where she'd never been before.
But she wasn't me.
She was never me.
How could she be?

The Jabberwocky Birth Control

All you do is turn, and bumpety bump
another rabbitious sparrowal poem comes
it's like words just wanna romp.

Down the unsunned intake organ it will!
'Open Sesame' and 'Mellon' are overcited
so just swallow that damn pill!

C'mon boy, aren't ya a lacker for some hundred pills?
There ain't no mo' flats for rent under this paperweight.
Who do you think is going to pay your bills?

One-Child-Policy? Oil up, pandream!

Nine Inch Tales

I, a peel to you,
before I rot
think out of the box!
Who cares about length,
caliber or strength
of fresh gilded locks?
Nine inches, rethought.
