Is it harder to be elected as a Democrat than as a Republican?

I was thinking about this the other night.

I honestly think that big reason that Al Gore and John Kerry had some believability issues is because they have such a large base to cater to.

I mean, let's just take the gun issue.

On the one hand, you have your Union Democrats - those tend to be blue collar (duh), and are often your hunters. Therefore, your Democratic politician can't be anti-guns.

On the other hand, you have the Hollywood Elite Liberals, and their followers, who think that all guns are bad (unless they're in the hands of rappers or Rosie O'Donnel's bodyguards).

Conservatives, if I may slightly insult myself for a minute here, tend to be a bit simpler. I love God and my country, and I don't want my taxes to go up.

Any thoughts?

Its harder to be a Repoh

Virtually all the media is against you

and you start with THAT disadvantage

Al Gore has himself in a bind as well. In his book he talks about liking high gas prices (or so I've heard), but then you can't run a platform on that.
