"Hello, you may call me Bella"

30 June 2045:
The crewman's eye lids began to flutter as consciousness returned to him. Robert Taylor had been in cryogenic stasis for over 14 months now, as had his 13 fellow crew members aboard the Callisto HOPE. It would take him another few minutes to fully open and focus his eyes, another thirteen to sixteen minutes after that to fully recall his surroundings and remember he was aboard a spacecraft heading for Callisto, and still another hour or more after all this to gain enough control of his body to allow Bella to help him out of his stasis bed.
Somewhere during that regaining your senses phase, a young woman leaned over his opened stasis pod and began unhooking the wire leads, fluid hoses, and other umbilical connections to his hibernation suit.
"Hello, you may call me Bella," she said giving him a rather crisp smile that looked forced. It wasn't forced, of course; it was just how her programming told her to smile in such an introductory situation. In a tone and cadence that -- in addition to her actual words -- very quickly revealed her to not be Human, she explained, "I am obviously not one of your Human crew mates. I am a ValTron Industries Bella-4R/Deluxe Service Android, 5th Generation. I am not the Hanover-Chen Corps Troy-2 Model Android you were expecting upon reanimation from cryogenic stasis. While it was not my decision to make this change in available Service Androids, I would still like to express to you my apologies for any confusion experienced regarding my presence aboard this vessel, Systems Technician First Class Robert Taylor."
Bella, as she would come to simply be called, had been programmed to study human emotions -- as well as gestures, actions, sounds, and speech -- and determine the thought process taking place in the mind behind her subject's face. Oh, she didn't read minds, of course, but she was better at reading humans than most humans were.
And what she saw in Robert's face was deep confusion. She leaned over at the waist, gently slid her arms under the man's back and thighs, and with the strength of a body builder lifted Robert up and out of his stasis bed with no sign of exertion or stress. Turning, she set him on his butt in the middle of an examination table before stepping back to continued her explanation.
"There has been a penetration of the hull by an object, and the mission is in danger of failure," she said in a human sounding voice but without a great deal of human emotion in her tone. "The affected compartments have been sealed. Oxygen and pressure loss have ceased. The fusion reactor's backup power fluctuation prevention circuit has been damaged. This is not an issue at the moment as the fusion reactor's primary power fluctuation prevention circuit is fully operation. However, if the fusion reactor's primary power fluctuation prevention circuit were to fail before the fusion reactor's backup power fluctuation prevention circuit was to be repaired, the fusion reactor could fail and explode. The mission would be a failure and all 14 Humans on board would perish."
Again, Bella studied the Human's reaction and came to a conclusion. "It is unnecessary for me to fully describe all systems and situations in such detail when I speak to you, is that correct, Systems Technician First Class Robert Taylor?"
And yet again, Bella read the man's face. She smiled, and even chuckled before again pointing out, "It is unnecessary for me to use your full occupational designation when I speak to you, is that correct Robert Taylor?"
Bella began unhooking and unzipping the hibernation suit to free Robert as she continued her report. "The mission to Callisto is still on schedule, with the exception of your early reanimation from stasis. Departure from HOPE station is recorded as having occurred 15 December 2044..."
The Callisto HOPE was Humanity's first attempt at settling another planetary body since a trio of failures to settle Mars between 2026 and 2036. Upon reaching the Galilean moon, the vessel's forward section was to separate, orbit, and finally land upon the moon's frozen surface, with all of the Human crew members aboard. The Callisto HOPE Habitat would be the crew's home for the 3 years, until Callisto HOPE II arrived and retrieved them from the planet.
(The retrieval method had actually been inspired by the 2015 motion picture, The Martian, though, Mission Control hoped there would be no need for any Iron Man acrobatics this time around.)
Bella continued, "You and the crew were inserted into stasis between 11 and 14 August 2043..."
Many people, including most of the crew, had found it ironic that they had not experienced the departure of their vessel from the orbiting HOPE Station. Cryogenic stasis hibernation was still a very new science when the mission was being conceived, with the FDA and AMA only giving their reluctant approval of it for deep space travel three years before the Callisto Human Outer Planets Exploration mission was finally approved.
Because cryo was so new, the crew had been put into stasis 14 months before the vessel sped away from Earth so that the doctors on HOPE Station could study them for any rejection of the very complicated process. It had turned out to be a good idea: 28 potential crew had entered stasis; 3 had died; 5 others had suffered debilitating damage; and of the remaining 20, the crew of 14 -- including Robert, of course -- had been selected based upon the mission's needs.
Robert hadn't been the only Systems Technician to enter stasis -- there had been 3 -- but he'd been the only one to make the cut. Luckily, of the 3, he'd been the most qualified for the job and the only First Class ST to make the cut.
Bella continued, "The voyage to Callisto is 757 days in length. The crew was to begin reanimation on Day 722. Today is Day 197. There remain 560 days before we reach Callisto and 525 days before any of the remainder of the crew is to be reanimated."
Bella paused for a moment to let the man consider what she'd just said before giving him the bottom line. "Robert Taylor, you cannot reenter stasis, and no other crew member can be reanimated before approximately Day 688 due to a limit on life sustaining resources. You are alone. You will be alone for the next 491 days, approximately."
Again, Bella paused to read his reaction, adding, "I hope this will not cause you undue stress. I will be here to keep you company. I know that having an Android companion may not be much of a comfort, but it is, unfortunately, all I am able to provide you at this time."
She took another step back, looked to the fully unfastened hibernation suit that still enclosed him from the waist down but was otherwise exposing his upper torso. "If you think you are steady enough to stand, I will help you out of your suit and into a nice, comforting, medicinal bath that will begin the process of rejuvenating your body."
That meant, of course, Robert becoming naked before the Android. His being naked before Bella meant nothing particular to her, of course; she was just a Service Android. But then, that was where the particulars about Bella came into play, and this was something that she herself didn't know due to a stripping of much of her saved memory and the replacement of it with a massive update.
Bella couldn't know this, but the ValTron Industries Bella-4R/Deluxe Service Android, 5th Generation had been whores. Literally! Her model had been designed and programmed to provide personal services, including sexual services, to clients on Earth, HOPE Station, and a dozen other stations orbiting Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, and the latter two's moons.
And while Bella didn't know this due to a mind wipe and reeducation as a Systems Services Android, the crew of the Callisto HOPE surely had to know of the Bella-4R, 5th. There had been more than 50 of them on HOPE Station, working as waitresses, entertainers, and -- of course -- sexual servants in the brothel and at private parties. Really, anything the prostitutes and escorts of Earth had done down on the planet, the Bella's were doing in Low Earth Orbit.
The 4R-5th model had been designed after extensive and exhaustive research into what men -- and women -- wanted in a sex partner. Oh, it wasn't like she was the only model, of course. There were taller and shorter models, darker and lighter models, more petite and more voluptuous models; any physical facet that might be pleasing to a paying partner were taken into consideration.
Bella herself was 5'6" tall and 125 pounds, with measurements of 34D-24-36. She had firm breasts with nipples that would swell when manipulated, like many Human women. She had a pear shaped ass that, along with her legs, were athletic but not too much so. Her skin was very humanlike, a feature that had been a must for her developers as no one wanted her to feel like a rubber blowup sex doll. Everything about her worked: her eyes, her mouth, her limbs, her vagina, they all worked and felt like a real Human woman's did.
Of course, this Bella didn't know any of that, nor did she have any reason to even contemplate on such things. She wasn't a woman. She was an Android in the shape of a woman. In her mind, she was just a tool for Systems Technician First Class Robert Taylor to use to fix the vessel and save the mission.
At least ... for now.
