Electric cars.

I don’t have an electric car, but my electric lawnmower is a big improvement over gas lawnmowers.

Starts every time with a push of a button. No trips to the gas station to fill a gas can. Quieter. Much less polluting (small gas engines burn dirtier than vehicles with catalytic converters). Loads of torque for getting through the grass when it’s taller than usual.

I’m sure some rural people are itching to post “I have 50 acres to mow and an electric mower won’t do it!!!!!!!!!” That’s irrelevant. The majority of Americans live in the suburbs where an electric mower does the job perfectly well. Our house is on a half acre lot.

I have 50 acres, more infact, and don't even burn a gallon of gas in the lawnmower. Why because I only cut walking paths where needed. The rest is wild.

If I did burn more than that, I'd get an electric non corded one.
 
We purchased my wife's EV almost 2 years ago and it's been a very good experience so far. Only one glitch had occured which we simply did a reset on the car and we were good

Acceleration has been outstanding ( granted to Mrs did get one speeding ticket ) and quality overall has been as expected. Only down side was the few times we used it for a weekend get away and how we needed to charge at one of Tesla's charging station which wasn't that bad.

All in all we've been very happy with the purchase and would consider another if and when the time comes to decide?

Commercial landscapers can get backpack battery packs for all of their power tools - blowers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, chainsaws… one battery back can last half a day, then exchange it and keep going.

So much quieter! No gas handling or storage, some of the tools are way more powerful.

Elon Musk announced 2 days ago that Tesla would not be developing and building any new Supercharger stations but will concentrate on expanding existing locations. He also announced the firing of the executive in charge of the development of new stations and most of her 500 staff. Why has he done this?

I charge my reel mower's battery with steak and potatoes. I might eventually buy a scythe or something to trim around the violets.
 
Raising the gasoline tax to cover the full cost of road maintenance and construction is an excellent idea.
Just as long as the electric charging stations are taxed at the same rate so that everyone pays, the ultimate Liberal catch-phrase, their fair share.

That too, is a most excellent idea. Plus a little bit more to cover the cost of battery disposal. That's only fair. You just cannot send those buggers to the scrapyard to be recycled like you can with the gas-guzzlers...

Fucking toxic and China could cut us off from the rare earths in a snit.

I agree, the equivalent tax on a gallon of gas should be levied on the kW rate for charging EV's. Which in the state of Kansas works out to 3.32 cents per kW. Otherwise how do you continue to pay for roads.

Question. What is the kW to gallon conversion? What is the kW equivalent of one gallon when it comes to a vehicle? How much should each kW be taxed? How do we convert our diesels and trains to electricity?

Think of the battery load in kG's on our road and rails. Batteries ain't light in this respect. Especially not compared to a gallon of gas and, again, patiently, we can equip gas vehicles with all sorts of carbon-capture technology, but how do we dispose of the used-up rare-earth batteries?

Electric cars are heavier than gasoline cars so they cause more wear and tear on roads. They should be taxed more highly, just like heavy pick-up trucks and SUVs should be taxed more highly than compact cars.

Do Heavy pick-ups or SUV's face an additional fuel tax currently? There is a huge difference in roadbed settlement/compaction due to 160k/N per tire (Passenger/Truck tire loading) verses 650k/N per tire (Typical Transport Tractor/Trailer loading).

Yes, yes they do, indirectly. Moving more mass requires more fuel. Thus, they pay more tax.

I think it’s wonderful that the OPEC countries and constant Middle East turmoil hold sway over our gasoline prices, and therefore economy, to a large degree. Why on earth would anyone want to seek an alternative to that? 🙄

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stick to subjects you know something about. Electrocution is two folds, at low currents say around 100-120 militvolts the heart's electrical sinusoidal signal is interrupted, leading to heart attacks. At higher voltages, usually over 600 volts, burns and muscle constrictions occur causing traumatic injury or even death. Over 10,000 volts and death usually occurs from burning or cooking of the flesh.

We can calculate this using our old friends formula called Ohm's law. So using Ohm's law, for say 50 Vdc and the average skin Resistance of 16,000 ohm, we can see if indeed you can be Electrocuted.

50/16,000=.003125 amps, or 3.125 milliamps. Far below the threshold of death or even a mild shock....
 
Car development done right. You fund racing teams, over time with them tinkering with them, as car guys do to get every drop of usage out of their project to win races, advances the tech. Battery powered race cars have a big future, even the legend, still alive and wrenching, Big Daddy Don Garlits, is working on a dragster that will crush all NHRA records. It'll take time, and development to get day to day electric cars to be normal. man they are so fast. Oh and the Ford Mach E is NOT a Mustang, never will be.

It's amazing that the Middle East has regained control over our energy supplies. All it took was 3 years under Biden beginning with the elimination of oil leases, revocation of pipeline agreements, and depletion of the Strategic Oil Reserve.

It's almost like it was planned...
