Arrival of illegal aliens ousts U.S. workers
The Washington Times
An Alabama employment agency that sent 70 laborers and construction workers to job sites in that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina says the men were sent home after just two weeks on the job by employers who told them "the Mexicans had arrived" and were willing to work for less.
Linda Swope, who operates Complete Employment Services Inc. in Mobile, Ala., told The Washington Times last week that the workers -- whom she described as U.S. citizens, residents of Alabama and predominantly black -- had been "urgently requested" by contractors hired to rebuild and clear devastated areas of the state, but were told to leave three job sites when the foreign workers showed up.

MARYLAND: Schools draw fire for offering credits for Illegal Alien protest
The Washington Times
Maryland -- Montgomery County public school officials are awarding community-service credits to students who participate today in a pro-immigration rally on the Mall, angering some residents, who say the school system is supporting illegal activity.
"Under no circumstances should [student service-learning] hours be used to promote activities such as going to a protest for illegal aliens," said Brad Botwin, president of the Richard Montgomery High School Athletic Booster Club in Rockville. "To volunteer to teach people English or help with food services [is OK] but to aid and abet illegal aliens and to have students go downtown and get credit for this is mind-boggling."

Illegals: House vs. Senate
Worldnetdaily.com
by Kevin McCullough
The citizens of the United States of America finally have the U.S. Senate on the record regarding illegal immigration and the state of where we are at in 2006. Unlike the bill put forward and passed by the U.S. House of Representatives – the Senate bill does nothing to increase American safety or border security, nor to strengthen our efforts in the War on Terror.

Creeping amnesty
The Washington Times
By Diana West
So there I was, thinking that the only "imminent" threat was the Islamization of the Western world, a historic shift well underway in Europe. Yes, it remained clear that out-of-control immigration in the United States jeopardized the future of our nationhood. But after September 11 the present danger had become creeping Shariah: the gradual -- and-not-so-gradual -- acceptance of Islamic law by Western and, therefore, non-Islamic societies.
But then came last month's massive, mainly Mexican street protests against border control and in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens, mainly Mexican, who have crossed into this country since the last time Uncle Sam granted amnesty in 1986.

Another attempt at amnesty
The Washington Times Op-Ed
The senators who worked late Wednesday night devising a "compromise" on immigration legislation should have gone to bed early, serving the country better by getting some sleep. The "compromise" they came up with bears a striking resemblance to the one which passed the Senate Judiciary Committee a few weeks ago. Amnesty? Check. Guest-worker program? Check. So where exactly is the compromise?
It all depends, to revise a famously fatuous remark, on what the definition of amnesty is.

Senator Reid, Senate Floor Speech On Immigration September 20,1993
Library of Congress
Mr. REID. Mr. President, a few years ago it would have been unlikely that the subject of immigration would have come up around the family dinner table. But today, along with such matters as the economy, health care, and crime, immigration has become one of the most serious domestic issues in the minds of the American public, perhaps because immigration has had such enormous impact in all other domestic issues. It does not matter where you go today--any townhall meeting, any gathering of high school students, at a college class--immigration is one of the topics that is raised very quickly.
The issue of immigration is something that was not around just a few years ago with such intensity.
I know that many of my colleagues in the Senate and the House have had the same experiences I have had.
When I speak about immigration being a subject of concern, I am not talking about to this Senator. I think I can talk for the House and the Senate.
Earlier this summer, the Republican leader, Senator Dole, convened a policy breakfast for Republican Senators on the subject of immigration because, in his words, wherever he travels around the country, he is confronted with concern about the direction of the policy of immigration as it relates to the United States.
It is clear that there is growing public dissatisfaction with our Nation's immigration policies. The American people are demanding reforms that will restore order to an immigration system they perceive to be out of control.
