The US economy is slowing but Jared Berenstein’s ignorance isn’t causing the slowdown, nor is the slowdown a bad thing.
GDP dropped to 1.6% in Q1. Yesterday’s employment report showed jobs growth slowing, and more than half the new jobs coming from government, healthcare, and social assistance. The services sector is slowing and manufacturing, mining, and transportation continues to suck.
It’s not all doom and gloom. Far from it. The latest news boosted the stock markets yesterday on hopes that the Fed might start cutting interest rates sooner than expected. Slowdowns are normal, especially following massive stimulus spending binges.
As far as what the latest economic news means to working class Americans remains to be seen. Consumer confidence deteriorated in April and voter satisfaction with Biden’s performance on the economy remains in the toilet.
