Starting at the end

There've been a couple of times that the final paragraph has occurred to me when I've written the first chapter or two. I tacked it onto the end of the document and wrote to it with confidence that I knew the direction I was steering. In no case did it turn out to be the actual final paragraph when I got there.

I’ve written the final scene once or twice when I’ve been about halfway through the story. In a way, it gives me something to aim for.
