This deserves its own thread.

How many times have people who are anti- transgender said “you can’t change biology”?

Oops! 😬

https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-64893170

“A Japanese researcher has told a major genetics conference that he has created eggs from the cells of male mice. The research, still in its early stages, involved turning male XY sex chromosomes into female XX ones. Prof Katsuhiko Hayashi from Osaka University is working on developing fertility treatments.”

The science involves converting a rat’s skin cells into stem cells. Deleting the Y chromosome causes the stem cells to become egg cells.

If you can now edit DNA, remove Y chromosomes and put them into stem cells it may not be far off that edited stem cells can be introduced into a living organism where they can reproduce on the cellular level.

To make matters worse for the nailbiters, it’s specifically already been used for reproduction with genetic characteristics mixed between two male rats. No females involved.
😱

We have been able to do this for quite some time. Actually...one of the advantages when we were told you can't obtain stem cells using embryos...science keeps moving forward. We create specialized stem cells to be used in some cancer research. No manipulated genomes yet...that won't happen in the US because of legislation against it.
