This is an idea that’s definitely been done but I thought it would be fun to do it in an anthology setup, exploring a world where due to various diseases, there are very few men.

In this case, I don’t want it to be a world that is on the brink of extermination but the number of men is so small that it is a global concern.

It also might be fun to explore it through different periods.

For example: story about a guy who after the last disaster was temporarily confined “for his protection” and was made to provide multiple sperm samples as well as gave sex as the local government thought he was the last man. After he gets released he plots revenge on his captors.

Guy who has a wife and daughter whose daily job is to knock up other women. On the one hand he gets lots of sex and the limited number of men means he can live a comfortable lifestyle…but he also has to keep track of who all his kids are so he and family don’t have accidental trysts. Also, his wife is annoyed when some of the women he impregnates have sons, which are big status symbols.

Gay guy who has a trans husband. Admittedly I don’t know how to make this one particularly erotic as it’s more a drama. He’s happily married and his husband loves him to bits. For his job he just provides samples…but as he’s a pretty handsome guy, he’s starting to get requests for some one on one interactions including from his boss. What’s more he’s having trouble going out as even when his husband is around women will hit on him.

Trans guy who is straight and has a number of girlfriends. Pre-disaster he was mocked or just seen as a lesbian but now he’s practically fighting them off with a stick.

Bisexual woman who still gets the urge for a man marries woman who has a son. She helps raise him and loves him dearly but as he becomes an adult she can’t help but notice how handsome he is. Not helping matters is that, as a guy he’s required to start providing samples and having sex even if it’s just as a side hustle…he comes to her wanting some comfort and advice as the day he’ll need to start is coming up soon and he’s worried about how he’ll do with his first partner, whether his first time should be with someone who just wants a baby, etc.

What's your intent in posting this?

I didn’t want it to be a world with no men but one where the cis men were reduced significantly, to the point where there were less than a million. High enough that society can come back but low enough that it will definitely change.

I thought it would just be interesting to explore how trans men and women also got along through the apocalypse/s. One idea I had is that trans men were effected too while Trans women were left unaffected (I don’t want there to ever be a full explanation for what happened as it’s told after the fact but not far enough that society has completely changed yet.)

Those were just some ideas I had and I would love to have some women focused stories.

Another idea I had is how society changes after being a male dominated world. With so few men around, it’s not advisable for them to be taking dangerous work. Advertisers and entertainment writers need to change from promoting a nuclear family dynamic to something else (having your romance movie being about a woman who gets married to a guy is not realistic in the new world, nor is putting an emphasis on blood relations when you don’t know who the father is as getting a kid via sperm bank or (if you have money) a meet up with a male escort is now the norm.

Do straight women get into platonic arrangements with other women for comfort and companionship or do they start to explore and realize that straight is merely a category and their desires are more fluid?

What if...

...it's forced and early deprecation of the Y chromosome (with some say is coming anyway, as it's largely a defect anyway).

So all that remains of males are XX men, who are strictly speaking all intersex even if as far as fully and clearly male. And their initial rarity after the plague is reflective of the natural rarity of such.

Perhaps, the science can quickly evolve to increase chances of the gender expression to swing male, but that's still elaborate and expensive... but results in most, practically all, young guys being purpose created not-quite-natural anomalies created at great expense with not always ideal outcomes.

46,XX DSD individuals are infertile, bear in mind. There is no treatment that addresses the infertility, just the sometimes-partial masculinization. So that would change the outcome / plot of the story. A bit anti-natalist of you! Not that I mind.

Indeed. Thanks.

A single search would have told me that. Well, laziness it was. The rate (~1:20,000) seemed to be in the desired ballpark from the back of my mind somewhere, but yeah... even when...

When the SRY gene is present on the X chromosome, it almost always causes infertility due to azoospermia. In such cases, there is possibility to extract sperm by technique called TESE.- testicular sperm extraction.

Testicular sperm can be retrieved via percutaneous aspiration of testicular tissue. The doctors remove a small portion of tissue from the testicle under local anesthesia and extracting the few viable sperm cells present in that tissue for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Sperm obtained by these methods are subsequently used for ICSI.

...that kill the... intended... fun.

And just waving that away would propagate ignorance.

Having such around in disproportionate numbers may still be probably interesting for such a twisted world, with possibility of whole other cultural consequences, like, if significant proportion of already extremely rare men are infertile, risk of unexpected pregnancy is limited. For average woman conception becomes fully planned medical procedure. Possibility to get pregnant from sex with a man an old auntie's legend.

So, no one got the reference? Snusnu?

Cute reference. My first thought was - "So, Amazons, like in Wonder Woman, right?" Although I don't believe the Amazons valued men very much.

My take on the story - a son is born in secret, but knowing what hit future will be like, Mom dresses him like a girl, keeping his gender a secret. From there

- keeps his gender a secret so she can enjoy him whenever she wants?
- keeps his gender a secret so she can pimp him out?
- keeps his gender a secret until well after hormones of puberty (which never kick in until the man is 18 yrs old, of course) poses problems for the young man
