BILLY CRYSTAL’S CHARACTER CONCERNED GAY RIGHTS GROUPS AS WELL AS CONSERVATIVES.

Jodie Dallas (Billy Crystal) was one of the first recurring gay characters on an American sitcom. (He was not THE first — that honor goes to a short-lived show called The Corner Bar that aired on ABC in 1972.) The Jodie character had religious groups up in arms, but gay groups also expressed concern. They were worried that the character perpetuated stereotypes, such as his desire to have a sex change. After meetings with several gay rights organizations, the plotline for Jodie’s sex change was toned down. And thus began TV’s long road to Transparent and I Am Cait.

Same Sex Marriages In Massachusetts

Massachusetts became the first state in the country to legally recognize same-sex marriages. At the Municipal Office building behind City Hall in Northampton, couples lined up in the early morning to get their marrige certificates. Some couples then went to probate court down the street to get a waiver of the three day waiting period so they could marry Monday. Alicia and Nooni Hammarlund, leave the Municipal Offices behind City Hall in Northampton after they applied for their marriage license. The Northhampton couple exited with their children Elijah, 3, left, and Shiloh, 8 months, to the cheers of the crowd.

Barbara Gittings during the late 1950s caused me to think of the Little Rock Nine, who were 'greeted' in this fashion

Protestors react to the integration of schools in Little Rock, Ark.

September 4:
Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine were nine black students who faced intense discrimination attempting to attend Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Gov. Orval Faubus ordered the National Guard to turn the students away on this day in 1957. Mobs of white segregationists intimidated the students. President Dwight D. Eisenhower called on the 101st Airborne Division to enforce the federal statute allowing integration of schools. The students entered Central High on September 25.

Sandy, Karen, and I agree, by far we have it much easier. At Lit we have guys making off-topic posts with their comments or content. Also hiding behind their anonymity flexing their internet muscles trolling threads for lesbians and bisexual women. Nothing in comparison to these posts.
