People keep talking about talking about fire play, would someone knowledgable please tell us about it?

someone with experience please help us....

http://www.soulshaven.f2s.com/toys_fireplay.php3

i found this info on Souls Haven, a page i found though something recomended here on Lit. it might help with some of the curiosity. it struck me as really interesting, but i haven't been able to find out anything else about the subject yet, which i fully intend to before trying this out on myself. i'm fascinated - although i can't imagine myself ever doing it on someone else. just on myself to demonstrate. that's if i can get some more info *hint* *hint* please......

I just want to add that Willfulbrat once told me that she have tried it out herself, so I'm sure that she can help you Caroline

You remembered, ShyGuy. *s*

I do love fireplay and i have tried it, Caroline and "angel" eve. Basically, your skin is painted with alcohol then lit on fire. The fire brushes out easily, and it doesn't hurt except on the most sensitive body parts, though it can get pretty hot in a couple of seconds.

If you decide to try it, be sure to have plenty of wet towels, a fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit handy. A fireproof room with a bare floor is ideal. And be careful not to let the alcohol drip down your skin when it's applied.

It's an incredible experience. I hope you get to experience it.

Yow!

That sounds pretty intense, Willful! Of course, I'm almost ridiculously afraid of fire, so that won't be happening to me anytime soon. (Though the thought of being that terrified is kind of thrilling...but that's my crazy mind, which INSISTS it's a hardcore player.)

What kind of alcohol do you recommend for that? And what parts of the body do you do it on? Do you just toss a match onto your skin, wait a second, and slap it out with a towel? Forgive me my (morbid) curiosity. The fear thing got me excited and if I do this, I definitely want it done right! NOT a case that I'd like to chalk up as a "learning experience," if you please. o)

Edited to say: Duh, I'm gonna go read that link so nicely provided now. Sorry. Feel free to give your real life experience, still, Willful.

yayyy! people replied! i read this this morning and was hoping someone would write in and satisfy my rampant curiosity. gonna go look at that link now!

It is intense, Quint! That little bit of fear just adds to the excitement and magic.

I've had my back, hands, breasts, tummy, and feet set on fire. The fire on my feet was delicious! She could have let it burn longer, but was afraid to. The nipples are a bit too sensitive to the heat, at least for me.

The only thing i'd add that i don't think was mentioned in the link that was posted is putting out the fire. The Dominant simply brushes his or her hand over the flame to snuff it out. Much more romantic than being slapped with a wet towel. ;)

Oh, i hope you try it. It's incredible.

Caroline, if I were a conspiracy-minded woman, I'd suspect you planted this thread to get me talking. ;) I can't just walk away from it, though; fireplay is too close to my heart to just ignore this. You bad girl, you. :p

Here's a quick run-down:

Fireplay is fabulous, and completely within the bounds of SSC scening with a little care and attention to detail.

I've never known anyone who actually needed the fire extinguisher, but the wet towel occasionally comes into play. Best to be better prepared than underprepared, though, n'est-ce pas?

Isopropyl alcohol works just fine and flames out quickly. Apply it very thinly and ignite immediately--always with your fire-prep kit handy. If you're new to it, start with not-very-sensitive skin like the hand, just to get a feel for the sensation.

Flash cotton (quick burning, high temp) is also popular with some, but I've never used it personally. The only person I know from here that had experience with it was SteamyChik, who's been incommunicado lo these many months.

Always keep the scene in a ventilated and uncluttered area.

Shave any areas you're going to light on fire, lest the smell of burning hair build up--or the fire spread across the body.

Red marks from the heat will generally fade within 12-24 hours.

If someone does get burned in a stinging, might-last way, here's a good burn salve for it: 1 part fresh aloe pulp, 3 parts spring water, 1 part isopropyl alcohol. It's cooling to the skin, works great in a spray bottle, and is usable all over the body. But, it doesn't store very well, so make it fresh each time or keep it in the fridge.

Never burn anything with an oily base; it burns hotter, longer, and spreads easily.

Some fireplayers (like me) also enjoy playing with candle wax.

Pure paraffin candles (like those used for Passover) burn at the lowest temp, if you're brand new to it and want to try something unthreatening. To me, they're barely warm unless it's on a very sensitive body part.

Colored candles burn hotter. Be careful with scented candles, as some of the scent ingredients burn hot or are oily in nature--definitely avoid cinammon oil candles, for example. Beeswax and liquid/gel candles burn so hot as to be potentially dangerous, as do candles with metallic shine.

And, if you're in a reading mood, here's a story with a fun fireplay and wax scene in it--if I do say so myself. (shameless, just shameless.)

Thank you, willful and Risia for your informative posts. We have tried candle wax and I enjoyed it immensely. Of course, that includes the delicious aftermath of having him peel the wax off:) I am not sure if I am particularly eager to try further fire play, but I am willing to consider it.

And Risia, remember that Sam gave you permission to spank me if you think I need it.
;)

Hmmmmmm ... now then - surely asking for it is a good way of avoiding it?
Or is this some kind of delicious double bluff?
(Actually, looking at recent posts, the best way of getting a spanking from a certain switch is to mis-spell her name. ;)

Risia (I chickened out on mis-spelling *sigh*) - I read the story you posted the link too. WOW! If that was written in 2002 I think we already have a winner in the BDSM category!

Personally, I think a bit of begging is in order.

I'd like to see that, Ms Oh :D

Ohhh absolutely!

Maybe we submissives could all do with some begging lessons.

Hmmmmmm ... I suppose if we get the lesson right we are rewarded by being punnished?

And if we get it wrong, or are not good enough ... what then?

What a quandry for somebody.

i KNEW i'd find Raisa here...(ooops)

Interesting topic, Carolune! (ooops)

i found some interesting data on this subject at one of my local BDSM boards. i'm sure Claudia won't mind if i quote her. This WAS an advertisement after all. Sounds like it would have been fascinating. If you got there before the DOORS were LOCKED!(i thought that was kinda cool)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello all! This is to inform you that REBECCA HOLMBERG will be teaching a temperature play workshop on Sunday, July 28th at Intermedia Arts, Minneapolis on Lyndale Avenue South and 28th Street. Cost is $5-10 sliding scale. Materials are supplied for you. It will be from 6pm - 8pm. Doors are locked promptly at 6:15 so be sure to get there ON TIME....
You'll get a chance to learn fire play, incense play, cigarette play, and more.... DON"T MISS IT! If you attend there are a few things to take into consideration to prepare:
1- Remove any body hair on torso, legs, and arms if hairsute...
2- DO NOT wear any alcohol or oil based lotions or perfumes. NO HAIRSPRAY!!!!
3- Bring hair-ties or bandanas to secure longer hair....
4- Bring a towel to wet for fire safety....
5- If you can bring a portable massage table or something similar, PLEASE DO.. Also bring pillows, mats, etc... to lie on during hands-on portion of the workshop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

i thought the term "temperature play" was interesting. Incense play? Cigarette play? Hmmmm?

Theoretically this would include all those nice "ice" games the Eskimos play. (And i DON'T mean HOCKEY, Caralinoha) (ooops again)

Quint luv, don't forget fear can be supremely erotic. i mean, that time that you were grabbed and hauled off by that guy? The one who tied you to the bed with cruel, steel cables, then he ripped all your clothes off and grabbed you by the hair. You thought for a second he was going to hit you in the face and you closed your eyes. Then instead of a feeling a blow, you heard the sound of his zipper. Weren't you even a little scared then?

i suppose not...probably just about ready to close the book and turn out the light. With your other hand.

You tie back that lovely hair, and all you need to fear is the sensation of heat. You can hardly SEE alcohol fire. You won't look like the human torch.

Have fun, you freaks!:D

<pssst, Willow! ...who's the one that gives spankings for misspelling names? Tell her i'm over in the corner here, holding my ankles, with my pants already down...thanks luv>

We do fireplay every few months (in fact, he is planning a session tonight!).

He uses the pre-packaged individual alcohol wipes to apply the alcohol, and use the violet wand to light the fire. Following the flame with his hand is enough to extinguish it, although he has let it burn out on occasion.

The fear is really the point of this type of play for us. I am quite afraid of flame - even using wax play, if he puts the candle close enough to my head for me to hear the flame, I sweat. I also really don't care for the violet wand. So the combination of the two really trips my mind. The sensation is not extreme, it's warm, a little hot - for me, it is really the mindf**k.

K

This is something toward which i'm peering cautiously around a corner.

A little over a year ago (after the discussion of candles and wax in the M thread), another teacher spilled a votive candle that was burning on my desk and the hot wax went all over my arm. She was frantic, trying to wipe it off with a towel and i kept assuring her i was fine as i tried to pay attention to the sensation of the wax hardening on my skin. I remember a slight burning and then just a warm "glow" as the wax hardened.

So "temperature" play is something that definitely interests me, i'm still not sure about actual fireplay, though.

*tingling*

.... i spent most of friday afternoon learning to light matches in a match bock in one hand - a trick a friend showed me. perfect for a lazy afternoon of giggles. and this led to playing with flames in alcohol on the balcony railing...

see through, pale flames, almost like gauze, hot and brilliant, twitching, and shaking...

i'm starting to get a taste for this.... mmmmm......

Oooo..i'm getting to like YOU "angel" eve

You seem to have a questing spirit, and the love of experimentation i find so appealing.

You described the alcohol flames so poetically, i think i may have to shave my arm and try a series of experiments of my own.

i'll have to whet the edge of my Bowie knife first, to shave my arm, that'll be fun too. The more i find out about BDSM, it seems that i've been "kinky" most of my life.

The connection i still have difficulty with is in trying to find some sexual content in these activities. Maybe if i keep experimenting, the passion will "flare up" again.

Are you using those "safety matches" with the scratcher on the back? THAT makes for quite a challenge. Even with those, i used to be able to light a cigarette, one handed, while riding a bicycle.

Yup, i just gotta take more time for having FUN! Thanks for the inspiration! :D

Tickles can be fun too!:devil:

You want i should SHOW ya? Kootchy kootchy Koooo!

Easy for you to tease me with an ocean between us. Maybe i can set up a deal with Willow! Oooo! i'm schemeing again!

Blue

Oh no, and i live pretty damn close to willow too..

*backing away* nice mr blue, niiiiiccceeee mr blue...
