I have 2 tattoos...they weren't very painful at all (but then again, I am a masochist), the healing of them is really easy, and I love them. I say go for it if you have a design in mind you really want. But yeah...I'd stay away from that one, as well.

Willow take a look at Kiwiwolf's tattoo thread, plenty of pics to look at.

I've got two tats, too.

I got the first one for myself on my 21st birthday a million years ago. I went with my then-dominant, someone i knew i wouldn't be spending the rest of my life with, you know? I had to have a couple drinks before i went into the place. It was in a seedy area; back then, drunken sailors on shore leave and drug-hazed bikers were about the only ones getting tats.

We went in and i showed the tattooist a pic of what i wanted. He'd never done that particular tat before (it was a delicately rendered California poppy - no wonder) but told me he'd have no problem with it.

So i pulled my dress up and my panties kinda sorta downish and, as my dominant hovered *very* close, the guy put that poppy on my right hip, front, inside my bathing suit line, close to my labia. I think he kinda liked the experience, quite frankly. I know i did - something that became obvious to us all during the process.

Anyway, he got done and then it was my dominant's turn. I begged and [/i]pleaded[/i] with him to change his mind about the tat he was intent on getting but he wouldn't listen to me.

When we walked out of the place, i had my secret poppy in place, hidden beneath my panties. My domiant had a a huge heart on his tricep, the end of it sticking out below his shirt sleeve. On that heart was emblazoned a banner. On the banner was my name.

I've wondered a few times through the years if that dominant (1) had the tat removed - or at least the my name part of it or (2) found someone with my name with whom he could live happily ever after. What do you think?

I got my second tat, another California poppy, a few years ago. Yes, it was another birthday present to myself. You can see a pic of that tat in the "Singletails" thread.

I'm considering a third tat now.
It won't be another California poppy, though, for all that my daughter enthusiastically endorses the idea of a "scattered patch" of them in various places all over my body.

I need a good and ultimately trustworthy site for Chinese characters. Anyone?

Right after our youngest daughter was born (she was in a neonatal intesive care unit) I went and got my first tattoo done it was a baby holding a red rose. In our family we have a saying that He has always said to me form the very first day we met its ONE RED ROSE FOREVER and when I walked into the tatto shop with im he was going to have our daughters name added to the tattoo he already had with our other children's names on it I had no intention of getting a tatto I had just had an emercany c-section our daughter was still in the NICU and I was High as a kite on pain pills and depressed because we did not know if she would make it. I stood there flipping through flash charts and when I saw the baby with th eone red rose I just had to have it, it was like my way of honoring her and keeping her close to me at the same time. she is going on eight years old now and you'd never know to look at her that when she was born she weighted less than 2lbs.

He has several tattoos himself which include the heart and rose with my name na dour children's names on ite above his heart, a wolf, an eagle, a panther a tigar and a sword.
I am supose to be going back to get the excat same sword done on the oppsite leg than he has it on sometime in the near future

and he has me drawing tattoo flash for him, I just finshed one in honor of 9/11 its a sword in front of a flag with an eagle the sword has a ribbon wrapped around it so that words can be added although I haven't added words of my own to it, and its not one he will get for himself, Its just one I drew becasue a friend of ours owns a shop and he will post any I draw in his shop and if someone decideds to use one of my designs he will pay me half of whatever he makes on it.

One I am drawing now For HIm , is a back piece of an arrow head with the end of the trail in the middle of the arrow head it siwll have some other small native american designs blended and smoked in but I haven't desoded what they will be yet. He said as soon as I get it done that he is getting it done on his back and I can't wait.

anyway I think I have truely rambled here.

cym, is this the kind of thing you're looking for?

A caveat, though...a lot of people, including the person who may tattoo you, look down on those who aren't Asian that get Asian tats done. It's become kind of trend among the cheerleader/pierced navel crowd. Not saying you should not get it done if it's what you really want...it is your body after all, and if it has meaning to you, then by all means get it and screw what everyone else thinks, but there is sort of a "stigma" associated with them.

I have a sun and moon tattoo on my arm like
this and I have a barcode and copyright symbol on my left ankle.

I'd like to have one other, but haven't decided on which one and where yet.

My fave tattoo site has to be BME - most of it's a members only thing though :(

I have a fraternity tattoo on my ankle and my unit insignia from the army on my shoulder. I have been thinking of getting more, but don't have a clear idea of a design I want.

Maybe some girl's name, oh about eight letters long, would be nice.

ummmmm "Mari wants to do Caroline" has a lot more the 8 letters.:p

Well, then it will just have to go on a big part of his body.

Even as cool as our cym is, I don't think he'd go there - he doesn't strike me as a fool. He'd be better off coming home with "Liberace Rules" stuck to his forehead.

Actually, I'm a little concerned he might decide on cymbidia.;)

I freely admit that my tattoo hurt like a bitch! I'm a masochist too, but ohmygod that hurt. (It wasn't in a BDSM situation - either the getting itself or the purpose of getting it.)

Bummer. I hadn't even considered this angle, to be honest. I certainly don't want to offend anyone, either.

I wanted something that would mean "sexual submissive" or something in that temperature range. I wanted it to be small and delicate and go just inside my hairline at the back of neck or at the base of my spine. I wanted it to a little obvious - when i wished it to be obvious - but nothing of the in-your-face variety of tats. I wanted it as a celebratory statement of my freedom to be who i am, free of the constraints imposed on me for so many years in a nilla marrige to a frowning and sternly unaccepting man.

But i have to rethink the offending other people angle.
My need for this certainly doesn't outweight that kind of consideration.

And i'm not fucking trendy, either.

I got my first tat 24 years ago, back in the days when me and the sailors and bikers were the only ones getting them. ;)

My pretend name?
Your Sam?
Not bloody likely!

Thanks for the giggle though.
:D

I was thinking something along the lines of a stags head or a willow tree or a rose with a rope around it.
Something to signify our new relationship.

But .... I don't know where (on the body) to have it done ... and (this is the biggie) if I can go through with it pain-wise. (Yes, foxy ... I can be a big baby sometimes! lol)

I have definitely heard this a lot. I've also heard horror stories of people thinking they're having some word tattooed when really it has a whole separate meaning. My girlfriend's ex-husband is Chinese-American and even he has run into one or two ignorant people criticizing him for planning a Chinese tattoo - even though he knows what he's doing!

I think he ought to get a tat that reads "cym said" because every time we talk about bdsm, I hear that over and over "cym said", "cym said"....;)

I don't know whether to be sheepishly flattered or anxiously horrified at this.

But i think i better go read over every word i've ever posted about BDSM (that would be, oh, about 87% of all my words at Lit) to check for accuracy.

Geeze.
I'm gonna be checking my words over and over, double and triple and quadrup...

HEY!
You said this just to get me to be quiet for awhile, didn't you?
Well, it's not gonna work, buster.
I'm addicted to talking.

cym, i think there are a certain number of people who see using chinese characters as tatoos as appropriation, but i don't think it is the vast minority. if you wanted to avoid using a chinese character set you could think about hebrew or arabic. or you could use a southeast asian script, which are quite distinct from chinese/japanese symbols.

The idea was to have one small(ish) pictograph kinda thing that would represent "sexual submission". I'm far less enamoured of the idea of spelling it out, you know, whether that be in English or Bengali or Hebrew.

I'm going to have to come up with something else, i think.

Hmmm. Maybe that 'scattered patch of poppies' idea my big girl had isn't so bad...
:p

Ooooooooooooooooooh.

Well.

It's put up or shut up time for me, perhaps, hmmm?

Hmmm.

I can feel the idea taking root and growing.

But how to explain it to the kids...how how how...i don't like to outright lie but i also cannot talk to them about anything that has to do with BDSM (for a variety of reasons)...

Hmmm.
