I know I don't.
Once I click on a thread and see that it's closed, I never open it again.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
Something you should all keep in mind.

In the beginning I used to read them, wondering whether they were better than others. Some were, but most were just like any other open thread. Lately, I don't bother, as soon as I see that it's a closed thread.....CLICK.... Better spend my time posting, since I don't have much free time anymore. Maybe when I stop posting, I will go back to just reading the better ones.

I don't tend to read closed threads either, 95% of the time, I'd say, I move on and never return. If I want to read a flat story where I couldn't interact or interject with it then I'd read a story. If I wanted to roleplay with a pre-selected group of buddies I'd use email or an instant messenger program.

I also have opinions on the price of coffee, the role of pirates in this centuary and why I eat so many pizzas.

Perhaps this should have been founded as a poll.

A bright red and white poll. One with a bell on top. Oh, wait... I'm being told other sorts of polls are more popular here in literotica. My gosh!

I'ver read parts of closed threads. Like the first page or so. That's only if I've got an hour or so with nothing to do. Usually do it for masterbation material.
If the title or the situation is interesting enough, I might read a page or so. I'm not an avid reader though. Personally, I'd rather spend my time reading actual books. Not to say the good people here at Lit aren't creative and inventive, just that even sex gets boring.
Lol, I'd rather have sex, or at least write it, than just read it any day of the week.

You sir are correct about the superiority of the actual activity, and sex can be boring to read about. The closed threads I've read mostly contain useful info.

The closed threads here act as a resume of sorts - at least in my arogant eyes. You get to see who's good, who thinks their good and who's elitest.

That said. Mark my words - I'm not against closed threads here. They don't seem to be too many (although I still wait at the doors for a good and open thread) here to jam up things.

I suppose you could just say that I'm a man and I wish every woman would open her threads for me. :)

Well,

Open threads are usually happy threads. I think I'll stop looking at the closed one's. I Promise to keep mine always open.

If I ever make a closed thread, I will make sure to a (p) in the title (Just for you, Morwen) :)

Fortunately, I am drawn to the open threads... They always seem more interesting. That and I can remember being a 0 posts newbie who couldn't find a damned thread to participate in... :: Sigh ::

think closed threads are more for the writers than for the readers...which isn't all that bad...sometimes it is to keep people you're uncomfortable with out...or to play with people that you're comfortable with...either way...

anyway open or closed....think most threads here deserve a read...once at least...:p

I glance at most closed threads several times - mostly because until I forget which are closed until I reread the initial post ;). However, the things which make me read closed threads are a) I like the writers, b) I like the theme, c) the writing turns me on. That being the case, I seldom continue to read closed threads for long... but then, thats true of any thread I don't write in. I like the feeling of involvement in being part of a thread. Also, I prefer open threads to closed to participate in because they, just like life, are more likely to be uncontrollable. Also, it generally means if someone has to drop out, or drop out for a while, you don't have to end the thread as there are normally more people involved, and even the chance of authorless characters being taken over by new people.

I think part of it is the title as well. When you're looking for a thread, the title says it all. I get really peeved when people have titles like "In the Classroom" or something, and it is closed. The title suggests that there should be tons of characters, but they keep it secluded.
If you're going to have a private thread, at least make the title suggest privacy. I wouldn't enter a thread expecting to write a part if the title was Seclusion or something like that.

It's a real shame the Chyoo stories take a while to be approved. Otherwise I would suggest that people wanting to run a closed thread would be so much better off going to Chyoo and creating a linked story.

There, on Chyoo, they could create a simple linked story (with only one option for what happens next) and close it only to their selected editors. It would be clear then it was a closed thread and their storytelling would be around for people to read for a long while after, rather than getting lost in the forums and the whole system of "may I join to" would be automated via the possible submission pending editor approval system that Chyoo uses.

Closed and open...Open and closed.
There's room gfor both on the SRP and neither category has better writing than the other.
There are GOOD reasons for restricting a thread and GOOD reasons for leaving them open...Hey Variety is the spice of life right? Especially at LIT.

The answer to the question though...
Closed threads are read. Look how many of them are way up above the 10 to one view/post ratio.
Usually I read the ones where I know the posters or one that grabs me by the quality of the writing.

broken record

The current percent is over 60 - CLOSED. Could I respectfully request that you 'closed threaders' at least follow some sort of convention and put a "C" or something in the title line. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I do not have time to read closed threads....except ones that are written by people I admire. Please......put someting in the title line. That way, those that read everything can do so - and those of us that do not can wander where we will.

I read close threads. Most of them are because I have written in a thread line with one of the writers. Some I read at least the first page & never look at again. Others are so good that I check from time to time & catch up. If its on the 1st page of the ORP or SRP boards.

Closed or Open...I read those that interest me and usually it's when I get a recommendation from a friend. It seems to me that if you're reading threads in general WITHOUT looking to join the writing either closed or open works. I read threads I'm not involved in fairly often. And I agree with a previous poster that some are so good, I do go back and catch up on them when I get a chance.

I do understand that most would like some designation in the title and perhaps that's a great idea. But it has been suggested before and hasn't caught on. *shrug* Oh well, we all enter here at our own risks. I've clicked on many an open thread with a mind to joining, but to quickly find out it's not the right thread for me for whatever reason. Or that if it is open it points me to an OOC first. I still have to open up more threads. I think it's a reality and one we all have to live with if we participate here.

As Ari says, there are good reasons for both open and closed threads. I accept that thread starters (brave folks in my estimation) deserve to be able to post a thread which ever way they wish.

Hello everyone,

This is a rant, so please forgive me. I may be the only person here with such opinions. But, for whatever it is worth:

Whenever I come in here and go to the threads, the first line that I see is 'OOC:This is a closed thread'. So when I see that I go back out, didn't even let the whole page load and scroll down. If people think that they are superior enough only for themselves, then that is their perogative. Thus said, these closed Threads have been a great turn off for me. It doesn't show what a good write you are or what good writers you have hooked up with, is just shows to me that you're arrogant and condescending. It puts me off, that if you actually wanted to show a good plot in RP, whether SRP or ORP, you should let others have a chance in. And this also done without any PM. What is there to hide? If you have a good idea for the plot, let it out. If you have a good idea for a character, let the character be the judge. If both the plot and character are not good enough, then back to the drawing board.

Maybe all of those who have Closed Threads are good writers, and have great plots and characters. Just because I haven't found one, it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. But for me, a newbie who is trying to join in SRP, I'm tired of going into a thread and seeing those dreaded word: 'Closed thread'.

I know I'll and have pissed some people off. For that I apologize.

:: Claps for Zircon :: Very nicely stated, and I couldn't possibly agree more.

I have never started or participated in closed thread; I personally don't believe in restricting who can or cannot be part of my little storylines. The main reason for this is that I remember how hard it was to get into a decent thread as a newbie to literotica (hell, I still feel like a bit of a newbie sometimes).

But being that no matter how much all of us bitch, there will always be closed threads, I will simply leave it at that.

:) Everyone just try to play nice.
