At the tender age of just twenty one years old Luke Green already had a more mature outlook on life than most of his peers. Although clearly still a young adult, Luke actually happened to be quite a sensible individual for his age. Luke certainly couldn't be described as boring though, far from it. He still liked to party and have fun with his friends, but all in moderation, unlike so many of today's youth. Being at university gave Luke and his friends plenty of opportunity to do exactly that.

Living in student accommodation, away from his parents for the first time, he very much enjoyed the independence that university life afforded him. Luke shared the house that he lived in with four other room mates; two girls and two other guys. Although his family helped him to some extent financially with his tuition fees, Luke still needed a new part time job if he wanted to be able to fund his social life. However, finding a suitable one that fit in with his studies was easier said than done.

Monday morning always rolled around too quickly for Luke's liking. The young man was almost positive that the last weekend had passed by in a matter of seconds. It was like he had blinked and missed it. Wearing a simple black cotton t shirt, dark navy jeans and a pair of black converse trainers Luke made his way on to the university campus feeling slightly dishevelled and wishing that he hadn't forgotten his jacket. The weather outside was wet, windy, cold, cloudy, grey and miserable, which matched his mood perfectly.

Stopping in front of a window, Luke paused to assess the reflection staring back at him. His hair, whilst looking fashionably messy, had a combination of blonde and brown locks that was often mistaken for being artificially highlighted. The hair colour was completely natural. His eyes seemed to have no definitive colour and had been described as green, brown and even grey. Luke felt like he was in pretty good shape too, considering he was just the average guy next door type with a slightly toned body. He wasn't too thin or too fat and certainly didn't look like a muscle bound body building freak.

Running a hand over the stubble that covered his jaw, Luke turned and headed in the direction of the university reception. Checking his watch, Luke realised that he still had some time to kill before his first class, which gave him the perfect opportunity to examine the adverts on the university notice board. A lot of local businesses advertised for staff there, no doubt targeting the students for cheap labour. Hopefully there would be at least one promising job that caught his eye this time. If the worst came to the worst he could always go back to working in the student union bar again, he thought miserably.

Jacquéline Bissett

Monday morning and Jacquéline was already on her third cup of coffee. Behind her shining metallic coffee machine steamed and rendered up it's aromatic brew: The only feature in the place that actually worked! Jacquéline reflected as she took her coffee black and strong. Before her, the counter was covered with spread sheets and lists; to the right there were several catalogues, to the left swathes of fabric.

"Merde..."

She swore under her breath. No matter how you added it up, it simply didn't add up. Jacquéline took a long sip of coffee, grimacing as it scalded it's way down her throat, the burn being replaced by the hit of caffeine. She had been here a full month now. Apparently this place had been closed up for 3 months or so before she bought it. The previous business had been no more than a sandwich shop dealing in dated, 'packed lunch' type take away accompanied by weak tea and coffee served in Styrofoam cups. She had done her homework well both in terms of local research and when looking into actually purchasing the property she now found herself in. Likewise, she had carefully engineered everything from her moving in to the work that she had managed to get done in the place and the delivery of new equipment. And she had made progress. But the delivery of the tables and chairs were well overdue and the refurbishment of the back room into a commercial kitchen had only just been completed. Whatever way she looked at it, she was losing local interest and with it potential custom every day, every week she still remained closed.

Normally she might have found the 'small town mentality' she had experienced in this place annoying, but with the locals speculating as to who had taken over what they referred to as the 'old lunch bar' and the rise in that speculation after she blacked out the windows so that no one could see what refurbishments she was making within was something she had intended to make the most of ... if she ever got the place open that was! They had of course figured out that it was she who now lived in the flat above the 'shop' and that there had been various deliveries made, though with most being brought in round the back of the property no one actually knew what was going on 'behind closed doors'.

Coffee done, Jacquéline gathered her papers together methodically and secured them in her 'business file'. She was not going to compromise on her vision. She was not going to delay for much longer. She was determined to do what was needed to tie up all the loose ends and finally get things moving. With renewed determination, Jacqueline pulled on a coat and picked up her bag before heading out via the back entrance. She could have driven, but the walk would do her good she decided, besides it was a pleasant enough walk across town and then inland where the sprawling university campus was situated. Determinedly Jacqueline headed towards the reception, reaching into her bag to take out her flier she all but bumped into a young man who was studying the noticeboard.

"Sorry, I ... "

She began an apology then hesitated as the young man seemed to scrutinise her.

" ... no damage done... "

She concluded turning towards the board with the subtle A5 notice, scanning the contents to decide just where might be the best place to display it.

As per usual Luke found that none of the advertising notices held his attention for long. Job hunting was proving to be a frustrating process. Resigning himself to the fact that he would have to work in the student union bar, Luke turned to leave for his first class of the day when...

"Sorry, I ... "

Luke heard the woman that had almost bumped in to him begin to apologise. In truth, he had been so busy reading the advertising notices that he hadn't even realised that there was someone next to him until it was too late.

"No, shit, sorry, it was my fault, I wasn't looking where I was going..."

He mumbled, before looking up to see the red head properly for the first time. Luke paused briefly, scrutinising the woman before his eyes. There was something oddly familiar about her face, but he couldn't work out what.

" ... no damage done... "

Detecting the hint of an accent on her words, Luke quickly dismissed the notion that he might have recognised the elegant woman from somewhere. One thing was for sure however, she was gorgeous. Like seriously beautiful. Luke had always had a bit of a thing for redheads too, not that he had ever known one intimately of course.

"...yeah, no harm, no foul.."

He replied with a half smile. It was true, the accidental collision could have been a lot worse. At least neither of them had been carrying a drink at the time or been knocked to the ground from the impact. Luke watched, transfixed, as the woman pinned something to the notice board, almost unable to take his eyes off of her. What was wrong with him?! He had seen attractive women before, even if he had never bedded one, but there was something different about her. Something sensual and sexy, yet feminine and demure. The redhead simply oozed class and it was clear that she wasn't one of the locals. Before Luke could open his mouth to speak again she was turning to leave.

Luke stopped to read the A5 notice that the woman had left behind, scanning the words as quickly as his eyes would allow. It was a job advert. The wording on the advert itself was pretty vague and she only wanted someone for two weeks, but still, casual work would be better than nothing. And flexible hours too, it almost sounded too good to be true.

"...Erm, hi, miss, excuse me, miss, hello..."

Luke called after the woman, dodging and evading other students, as he ran the length of the corridor in an attempt to catch up with her.

"Hi. The job offer. I'm your man. I mean I'd like to apply for an interview please,"

He panted, in between deep breaths, having finally reached the pretty redhead. She had fairly long strides for someone so petite. Although standing at six foot two, most people were smaller than him. He quickly surmised that she was just a busy woman in a rush. Places to go and people to see and all that.

"Sorry, I could have phoned the number on the advert, but as we've already bumped into each other once I figured I might as well introduce myself. I'm Luke. Luke Green,"

He offered his hand to shake hers, a wide smile lighting up his handsome features as his eyes met hers.

"...yeah, no harm, no foul.."

The young man responded. Jacquéline could not help but notice that given his stature in comparison to hers that it was she rather than he who would have come out the worse after any more serious collision. She gave him a brief smile acknowledging his response and turned her attention to the secure pinning of her notice. Just what the interest might be to her slightly cryptic wording she could not guess, but she had thought that a student rather than a local may have less interest in the developments of her business and be able to assist her without compromising the secrecy under which she had been working.

"...Erm, hi, miss, excuse me, miss, hello..."

She was already heading back towards the reception when the voice caught her attention making her pause and turn.

"Hi. The job offer. I'm your man. I mean I'd like to apply for an interview please,"

It was the young man she had knocked into at the board. He must have read her advert and come straight after her judging by his slight breathlessness.

"Sorry, I could have phoned the number on the advert, but as we've already bumped into each other once I figured I might as well introduce myself. I'm Luke. Luke Green,"

She looked at him, considering. He was sassy, but not cocky and as she took in his physique she judged that he would have little trouble helping her out with some of the lifting and carrying at least.

”Mr Green,”

She put her hand in his responding formally to the introduction before she relaxed into a smile.

”Luke, “

She amended.

”I am Jacquéline, Jacquéline Bisset.”

She withdrew her hand and seemed to consider.

”You want to interview? You do not have questions first?”

She challenged.

”You see this is will be for 2 weeks? But I am looking for someone to start as soon as possible and work as many hours as they have free.”

She watched for his reaction to this clarification.

”Why is it you want to work for me, Luke?”

She asked; his response would guide her as to whether she should sit down and interview him or wait to see if she had more conventional applications.

Luke gladly took the woman's hand in his, holding it firmly within his grip as they shook hands. Not too strong, not too soft, just like his father had taught him to shake hands as a young lad.

”I am Jacquéline, Jacquéline Bisset.”

Bisset. Something about her last name sound familiar to him, but he just couldn't place it. Why on earth did he get the feeling that he knew this Jacquéline lady from somewhere?! The considerable age gap between the two of them suggested that it would be unlikely they had ever mixed in the same social circles. Dismissing the notion as part of an over active imagination, Luke tried to shake the thought from his head as he listened to Jacquéline's voice.

”You want to interview? You do not have questions first?”

”You see this will be for two weeks? But I am looking for someone to start as soon as possible and work as many hours as they have free.”

”Why is it you want to work for me, Luke?”

All of the redhead's questions were fair really. Why did he want to work for her so much?! Why did he feel so drawn to Jacquéline, besides the obvious?! Luke could hardly tell the older woman that he wanted to work for her because he found her attractive. Besides that wasn't the only reason he wanted the job.

"Well, honestly I need the money Jacquéline. It isn't easy for a student to find a decent part time job in the middle of a recession."

He admitted sheepishly, hoping that she wouldn't mind him using her first name. Finding anything other than minimum wage shop work had proved difficult for Luke. Working in the student union bar paid okay, but the hours were unsociable to say the least.

"I've always been a hard worker and I'm available to start straight away. Obviously I have classes and study time, but other than that I can work as many hours as required over the next couple of weeks. Days, nights, weekends, whatever you need,"

Luke added quickly, hoping that his ready availability and flexibility would work in his favour.

"Plus you asked for strength, willingness and discretion and I have all of those in abundance,"

Luke finished with a devastatingly charming smile, his teeth all pearly whites, hoping he had made a good impression to earn himself an interview at the least.

"I do have one question, however. What exactly is it you are looking to employ someone for? Can you give me any more information or do you have a website or something?

He asked, realising that the words in the job advert gave him very little information at all. The vague description had sparked Luke's intial intrigue, but he figured that it would be good to know as much as possible before applying. Also, asking pertinent questions of prospective employers showed keen interest and real eagerness to succeed at the interview stage.

She stood in the corridor, glancing as other students bustled by and then watched as he seemed to consider his answer.

"Well, honestly I need the money Jacquéline. It isn't easy for a student to find a decent part time job in the middle of a recession."

He had used her first name, not that there was anything wrong with that, but it was interesting. Moreover, despite pausing to consider, he had given her what she assumed an honest answer; he was one of many students who were in need of cash and willing to work where they could to earn it.

"I've always been a hard worker and I'm available to start straight away.”

He was keen and available … both plus points.

”Obviously I have classes and study time, but other than that I can work as many hours as required over the next couple of weeks. Days, nights, weekends, whatever you need,"

Jacquéline couldn’t help but smile. He seemed more than eager to please, but his flexibility would definitely be an asset …

"Plus you asked for strength, willingness and discretion and I have all of those in abundance,"

Again she noted that his confidence fell short of the youthful arrogance she hated.

"I do have one question, however. What exactly is it you are looking to employ someone for?
Can you give me any more information or do you have a website or something?

Good questions … all valid, if somewhat belated … and the question about the website might be an idea she should consider.

”I’m attempting to open a business in the local area,”

She began to explain.

”… and I’m running behind schedule. If I can get the right help for the next two weeks, I figure I can finally open up.”

She sighed, her mind running over the long ‘to do list’ which she would need to work through before any kind of ‘grand opening’.

”… getting the ‘right help’ is my current problem … I literally need a second pair of hands to work alongside me … and of course take on some of the heavy work … there’s so much left to do ... and I have new furniture arriving tomorrow and I’m nowhere near being able to take delivery“

Even with help, it seemed an increasingly impossible task and she was trying not to panic.

”What are you doing this afternoon?”

She asked wondering if she had found a short term solution at least.

”How about you give me 3 hours of your time sometime today? And we treat it as a trial?
I warn you though; I need boxes moving and a total clean through … It may well be you have more interesting work in mind …. “

Luke had to admit that he found the idea of Jacquéline's new business venture intriguing, especially considering the fact that the local inhabitants weren't familiar with change. Most of the inhabitants seemed to have a small town mentality and Luke couldn't remember a single new business opening successfully in the last two years that he had been studying there. The clue was in the name when it came to Oldport, one of the oldest towns in the country. Situated on the south coast, Oldport also happened to be one of the smallest towns to have a university campus.

The young man found his interest increasing as he listened to Jacquéline describe the kind of help she needed, but Luke was still none the wiser as to the type of business the red head wanted to open. However, figuring that all would be revealed in good time, he didn't press his potential employer for too much information at this stage.

".....This afternoon.......yeah, I'm available this afternoon."

Luke replied, recovering from his momentary pause quickly. He didn't want Jacquéline to mistake the pause for lack of interest. Nothing could be further from the truth. The proposition had taken Luke so much by surprise that it had actually caught him a little off guard. Luke had only been planning to study in the library during the afternoon, but that could easily be postponed. Even if it started with just box moving and cleaning Luke was still keen. Hopefully, he would be able to impress Jacquéline and prove that he could handle more responsibility.

"A trial sounds great. I'd love to help you get your plans to open back on track. I promise I won't let you down Jacquéline."

He added with a confident grin, running a hand through his tousled locks. The young man had pretty much given up trying to tame his hair since it always did what it wanted anyway.

"How about I give you my mobile number and you can text me your business address? Then I can meet you there at say two o' clock this afternoon...Does that work for you Jacquéline?"

Luke asked, sensing that his day might just be taking a turn for the better.

She watched his reaction carefully.
There was nothing like the offer of some manual labour and cleaning to gauge if a person was serious about working or not.

".....This afternoon.......yeah, I'm available this afternoon."

To his credit he had only paused momentarily.

"A trial sounds great. I'd love to help you get your plans to open back on track. I promise I won't let you down Jacquéline."

She found herself smiling in response to his grin. He was still as enthusiastic and the fact that he seemed as eager to be helpful as to secure a job, which was after all just for two weeks was impressive. If she were employing longer term then his open charm would be an asset to the place, but at this rate she would be lucky just to open and break even. She had assets enough to tide her over in the short term, but Jacquéline was nothing if not pragmatic; she knew that she really needed to start making a profit of sorts by the end of 2 months or embark upon a plan B.

"How about I give you my mobile number and you can text me your business address? Then I can meet you there at say two o' clock this afternoon...Does that work for you Jacquéline?"

It was she this time who was pausing.

"That sounds perfect, Luke."

She told him as she took out her own phone and made ready to add him to her contact list.

"You'll really be helping me out here ... and with luck we'll find we can meet each others needs very well ... "

She halted, realising that those words had not come out quite how she'd intended. She managed to cover her confusion by focusing upon sending a text to the new number with her address on it. She smiled as it bleeped.

"Ok ... you have the information you need. If you come to the back door at 2 pm I'll show you around and put you to work ... "

She offered.

... Still not sounding any better Jacqueline...

She mentally berated herself. Despite her words, she managed to maintain a cool façade as she held her hand out to him by way of agreement.

"Deal?"

She questioned with a smile which was definitely NOT intended to be flirtatious...

"You'll really be helping me out here ... and with luck we'll find we can meet each others needs very well ... "

Luke had to suppress a foolish youthful grin as he thought about how he would most like to meet Jacquéline's needs. In bed. What was wrong with him?! Here she was trying to offer him a trial job and he wanted to try and sleep with her! The perils of being a horny young man. She must have been at least ten to twelve years his senior. As if an experienced, sophisticated woman like Jacquéline would be interested in a twenty one year old virgin like him anyway. Thankfully the beep of his phone momentarily distracted Luke from his perverse thoughts of bedding the redhead.

"Ok ... you have the information you need. If you come to the back door at 2 pm I'll show you around and put you to work ... "

"Deal?"

Put you to work he repeated Jacquéline's words over in his mind, trying his best not to misread her intentions. Luke had a history of getting the signals wrong when it came to women, often mistaking friendliness for flirting and vice versa. However, surely there was no mistaking the hint of flirtation in the redhead's beaming smile as she extended her hand towards his. Luke eagerly shook Jacquéline's hand, delighting in the feel of her soft touch, as his eyes met hers once more. She really was breathtakingly beautiful.

Deal! Luke agreed quickly, reluctantly pulling his eyes away from the beauty in front of him as he pocketed his phone once more "I'll see you at two this afternoon Jacquéline," he confirmed, making a mental note to be early, before heading to his next class.

If Luke hadn't known better he could have sworn the hands on the clock were moving backwards. He just wanted to damn lecture to finish so that he could go and meet Jacquéline again. There was something incredibly alluring about her. Luke often found himself day dreaming in class to pass the time and today his thoughts were full of visions of the older redhead he had just met. Luke thought that Jacquéline was absolutely gorgeous, despite being considerably younger than her, and he still had the strange feeling that he knew her from somewhere.

Eventually the bell rung, signalling the end of class, and not a moment too soon in Luke's opinion. Quickly packing his text books into his bag, Luke hurried out of the building and into the campus car park to find his shit piece of a car. It had been a present from his parents for getting into his first choice college. The little black car wasn't exactly flash or expensive but, as his father kept reminding him, it was his first car and likely to end up with a few bumps and scratches anyway. Besides it got him from point A to B.......well, just about.

Thankfully Oldport was a small town so the address that Jacquéline had given him wasn't too far away. Driving his car the short distance across town, Luke quickly found the place, but he had to double check just to make sure. This building had been the old sandwich shop, but it had been closed for about three months now. In fact, the place actually looked like it was still closed for that matter. Luke was starting to have doubts that he had found the right place until he remembered that Jacquéline had told him to use the back entrance.

After finally managing to lock his car on the fifth attempt of trying Luke walked around the building to find the back door. Two pm, bang on time, he thought to himself. Taking a deep breath Luke lifted his hand and knocked.

Knock, knock!

No answer. Was there a door bell or an intercom or something?! Should he knock again?! Luke didn't want Jacquéline to think he was rude, but then again he didn't want to be late either. It was then that the young man noticed that the old wooden door was actually slightly ajar.

"Erm....hello....Jacquéline?" he called as he pushed the door open slowly and stepped inside.
