We take our coffee black
Grouped to get the gossip
Coffee critics of last night’s T.V.

The water cooler is passé
Only used for quenching thirst
We take our coffee black

Thirst can gather quite a crowd
Around the one that knows
Grouped to get the gossip

Cognisant of passing time
Urgency in voices
Coffee critics of last night’s T.V.

Poetry Blitz

birth of the blues
birth of jazz
jazz is our culture
jazz is our freedom
freedom from pain
freedom from words
words that bite
words that sorrow
sorrow like fog
sorrow like years
years of hiding
years of Sun
Sun in my eyes
Sun on my skin
skin of my virtue
skin of my shame
shame's wasted passion
shame's wasted time
time like snowmelt
time like a river
river of tears
river of hope
hope is a virtue
hope is a dream
dream of my mother
dream of what's past
past like erosion
past like transcending
transcending their scorn
transcending my fear
fear of failure
fear of rejection
rejection of friction
rejection of fiction
fiction of Babel
fiction of Byzantium
Byzantium beckons
Byzantium is gone
gone girl gone
gone like a whisper
whispers of statues
whispers of life
life is recursive
life is the light
light as a savior
light as a song
songs for faith
songs for singing
singing
faith

Goodness I seem to be stuck on tiny poems while everyone else is steaming ahead with much bigger ones, I must be getting lazy My only excuse is that I don't get much peace to write, I am at one end of an open plan room while he has the television blaring the other!

tiny poems are as big a challenge as longer pieces, annie. the lack of developmental space, the tightness of wording...

as to getting peace and quiet, i feel you right now no3 has come into my room and put on top gear (he has a tv in his room but he likes to socialise PLUS it's his way of hinting he wants to use my pc, so i'll swap to my laptop soon ) while no2 is busy vacuuming and i can hear the dull thud of the bass from the music he has on. argh!

maybe earplugs for us

Lust
provokes,
it strokes
everyone
until, at last, it chokes
all of our senses, leaving us numb
and the feeling we wish to succumb
to, that surges forth with the power that we must
acknowledge to ourselves, if to no one
else, is left behind. We're made dumb;
finding all of our hopes
crushed. All come
to just some
mere motes.

An Octameter

Snow falls through the night
amassing into
drifts that cover each
bit of scenery,
pale vistas instead
of Spring greenery,
piling up even
on the machinery.

It is all fleeting,
not meant to last long,
soon Winter’s harsh reach;
winds, snows, and sleeting;
will melt all away,
at last retreating,
each bit seemingly
naught but dreamery.

Selfishness

I
find myself
wishing you were here
just 'cause I can't help needing
you.

This form is interesting, like another variation on haiku or the AS.

Snow Queen

She
did not feel
the cold still a shard
of ice found its way into
her.

(I like how you started and ended yours with pronouns so um I copycatted. )

Regards,
I think technically yes because the ellipses points stand in for an unknown of words. But mainly it is a pretty funny short poem.

Regards,
Not sure why you think Churchill was a prick though, he got us through the war when America were dragging their asses and only coming into it when forced by Pearl Harbour

No way, I don't think that Churchill was a prick. I just asked. As Angeline has said: it is a pretty funny short poem.

Best regards,

Beloved
as no one could
ever be in all of
history, that was what I thought
when sitting in the still and quiet night;
but the reflection of every
little thing between us
redefined that
‘beloved’.

A Harrisham Rhyme

Looking Back

Wondrous are my memories of you, their
symmetry balanced between hot and sweet;
Youthful images of us both forever
laughing at this or that--something new each meet
glossing over the inevitable sorrowful fare,
goodness and joy being a much nicer treat.

stone
of night
blooded bright
celebrated
carved sparkling into light
fractal rainbow overrated
bride glinting veiled lace white twitterpated
among the hearts and cupids valentines alone
then years on askance and dissipated
all that glitters renovated
ringless the breathless flight
liberated
that long night
still life
