Starting a little early I guess, but the New year is around the corner. So let's talk writing goals! Lit and otherwise.

What's in store for you this year? A certain number of stories? Entering contests, continuing a long forgotten series, starting a series? Do you have a goal to be on a top list or to crack or move up the favorites list?

As for non lit writing, what' the goal there? Finish that novel? Start a novel? Publish for the first time or publish more? maybe Nanowrimo?

My main lit goal is one I set two years ago, but was a long haul and this year should be within reach and that's to crack the top 25 favorite author list.

There are two categories left that I want to try here Interracial and Lesbian so planning on getting something up there. Otherwise aside from entering at least a couple of the contests this year not a lot on the lit front.

For publishing to try to keep getting at least 1 new book published a month and to stop stalling on the sequel to the BDSM novel I published last Summer.

So what's your plan for 2014?

I posted 60 stories during 2013, and my 2014 goal is 15. Longer with improved quality, using something called PROSE POETRY in place of narrative.

Sample of prose poem: It was a pleasant hour of an Easter morn. The pines murmured overhead, and the palmettos rustled all about. Butterflies fluttered by, and occasionally a dragonfly. Once a pair of phoebes amused me with an uncommonly pretty lover’s quarrel.

60? That's pretty damn good. I've been here three years and have less than 80. But that's what happens when you can't keep anything under 6 pages:rolleyes:

Good luck with the new strategy.

Writing the first book of my series. I might keep my editor profile disabled indefinitely. I can't edit as much as I have been, work 30 hours/week, and write. Some people can do this, but I've learned I can't.

Time is at a premium for a lot of people. As a VE you helped a lot of people so it should be time you focus on your own work.

:) Wishing you and your family a great 2014.

I was a little disappointed today. One of my favorite authors I edit for had a Lit story published recently. I went to it to vote it a 5, which I do for all the writers I edit for. Anyway, I happened to click on the first page to read his intro, and then read down. He had made changes to his story after my edits, and the punctuation errors were glaring. But that's how it goes with editing on Lit, and I've learned to pick my battles.

Getting back to writing goals, I'm planning on the first book to be no more than 80k words, maybe less. I think the longer I make it, the less chance I have of finishing it.

Did he credit you? because that would make it worse. Well like they say, you can lead a horse to water....

Hope your New year is happy and healthy and that you get your book done!

Thanks, LC!

Yes, he credited me, but fortunately it was at the end of a very long story. :) My first thought on seeing his changes were: "god dammit!" But then, I just let it go. I love editing for him, and he was rushed to publish his story.

My goals for 2013 were unrealistic. For 2014 I'm scaling back my expectations slightly. I want to reach 8-10 Lit. submissions, enter at least one contest, and get my FAWC story done on time.

Outside Lit., I want to complete my screenplay by February 28.

In 2014 I think I'll write my first sequel (to Jeffrey's Murderer), write a different take on My Reference, just to gauge the difference in readers' reactions, give more constructive feedback to other authors and see what else is buzzing around in my brain. Seems like a manageable list.

One of my goals for 2014 is to enter a competition. (Not sure why.) I've started a story with a strong Valentine's Day hook, so that might be as good a place as any to start. Aside from that, I need to give it some thought. Check back later. :)

I'm trying to buy a farm. It's small- only 200 acres, and to make a modest living from it in that region I'd need about 5,000 acres. So, I'm going to desalinate and change the land use with micro irrigation. I want to have an interpretive centre for what I'm doing.

With it I'll have my art and some of my stories. 2014 will be devoted to getting the farm going and in terms of writing, I want to go through my quirks and improve them prior to putting them up. I have over 200 stories waiting for a big edit. In time I'd like to have none of my stuff up and to promote the art and writing of the region. I envisage it will become a tourist centre with some accommodation.

So far I've had a lot of problems with councils. I'm getting better at dealing with them. They don't see that in time the most important part of the place will be the art and writing. 2014 will be the year I get it all ready with good foundations..

My goal is also to crack the Top 25 Favorite Author's list.

I don't know if it'll be done in 2014, but I'm sure I'll get close. I'm working on 3 stories right now for Valentine, and I've got several other ideas that I really like for later in the year. I'm writing in several categories, so that'll help get new readers.

I'd also like to have more stories in the Top 10 Most Viewed list for the 12 month range. So that means a few more Mother/Son stories.

I want to write an episode for the final season of "Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia." I don't expect it to be used, but it will be practice for a movie I want to complete by the end of the year.

I was going to start posting here again, but the story I started to post here was just too good to post here...sorry. Haven't finished it yet, I got distracted by a new idea that consumed my every minute.

Look in the Lit Authors and Their Books thread.

It takes me forever to catch-on but I recently, this morning, discovered the paper-doll theory of story composition. Its pretty simple, really.

I fell over it after reading some historical tales published by Joel Chandler Harris; Harris collected all the Uncle Remus stories, but he also collected a bazillion tales of obscure and forgotten Georgians. I'm amazed at all the great material hidden in the old books. Remove the old costumes and theyre good for new stories and new costumes.

Transferable wisdom is really what writing is all about.

I envy the time you have.

I used to read quite a bit, but its been less and less because I only have so much time and have sacrificed reading for writing. Hopefully I can get to a point I can get back to some reading.

I have very few talents, and my noodle wouldn't power a Geo down the driveway, but I make the best of what I have to work with. And that means I hafta keep it simple. And simplicity is genius in motion.

Youre the energizer bunny, I'm the old tortoise.

My realistic resolutions for writing on Literotica in 2014:

1. Write and post at least 12 stories (not one a month, because some months have too many other off-line commitments) as oggbashan, and at least 3 as jeanne_d_artois.

2. Post a story for each themed Literotica contest even though I am ineligible for the first six months of 2014.

Unrealistic ones:

3. Try (with the emphasis on attempt!) to write a better story than Christmas Truce.

4. Complete edits of jeanne_d_artois' Laundry Tales so that they appear in order on listings.

5. Start to edit oggbashan's Silverbridge Chronicles so that they appear in order on listings, and complete Harold's adventures in a mythical C19th India.

And last and most unlikely:

6. Write the sequel to Miranda The Witch.

For Lit. / Erotica:
1. Post at least six stories here, hopefully three of them contest stories.

2. Get off the fence and decide whether to publish erotica for sale or not, and then follow through.

Outside Lit:
1. Get a different kind of writing than anything I've done published. (I have a specific idea and am in discussions with my editor.)

2. Get published in two publications I've never been published in before.

3. Write a song.

I'm new to Literotica but have written and posted stories on other sites. My goal is to submit some of those stories here and to write a few new ones for Lit. I don't think I'm that interested in entering any contests, so I wouldn't list that as a goal. I have an unfinished lengthy story that is the fifth installment of a series that I would like to finally complete this year. Outside of Lit, I may continue to post stories on another site, but I'm beginning to become disheartened with them so that goal may be abandoned.
