Discussion Thread

"Rebuild"

Guidelines for the Discussion Thread:
  • This is a place to discuss the role play with the whole group.
  • One to one discussion should be handled via PM.
  • Please do not chat here.
  • Examples of things to post here would include:
    • Characters you would like to see created to interact with your existing Character.
    • Plot ideas in which you would like to take part.
    • Questions, comments, and/or concerns you have about something that has happened.
    • Questions, comments, and/or concerns you have about where the role play is heading.
    • Questions or clarification about the statistics in the Update Thread.
    • And so much more.
If there are posts that I think will hold long term interest to all writers, I will do my best to include links and short descriptions of them below, to make them easier for you to look at later (almost like an FAQ).

My first contribution to the Discussion thread will be some character ideas and interactions I think would be fun and interesting.
  • We need a pregnant woman, maybe 4-5 months along. Just about the time we are beginning to feel safe and secure and advancing in our efforts, here comes a baby! Woohoo, won't that be fun in a post apocalyptic world? Not! And to make matters worse, I don't think we should have a Mid-Wife, but by this point in time, we have discovered another group of Survivors living in another Campus building, and they do have a Mid-wife. Only problem is this: they will want something we don't want to give up for her to have permission to come to the Library for a few days.
  • We need a man or woman with heart troubles. We will need to scavenge Meds from the Sacred Heart Medical Building about 2 blocks away.
  • For Max, I would like a younger woman who initially takes to him as a grand fatherly figure, then -- after she discovers that he has a stash of resources -- becomes his "play thing" so that she doesn't have to work. It will be a passionate affair fraught with difficulties because he is falling in love with her, but she is only using him.
  • I want to write a separate thread about a man and woman and possibly others, but all written by just us two writers. In this story, he is making her "service" him, in sexual and non-sexual way. He is domineering. When she discovers the library, she is desperate to flee this brutal man and live there in peace and safety.
More later.

So, just a heads up, I would like to start our second game day with a combined Post by Peter and Max. After that, you are all free to post as appropriate.

Also, I won't be on much today. Painting my house.

Here are some ideas I would like to propose. If you are interested in any of them, PM me:
  • Sexual interactions:
    • Peter is a real Ladies Man and, despite the tragedy unfolding outside, won't stop trying to get laid at every opportunity. I'm looking for some sex partners AND some drama concerning love triangles, envy, and jealousy.
    • Max is an old grampa type, but he still likes women. It would be interesting to have a younger female character take to him as the grandfatherly type, then -- realizing that he is excited by her -- turn the friendship into something more.
    • Kip is a shy virgin who will want to lose his virginity before he gets eaten by a Zombie. Any older, experienced female character want to make a man of him?
    • I always wanted to write a hetero female character who, faced with danger, finds herself attracted to a bi or lesbian female character and begins a lust, then love affair. I know, I'm a guy. But I could try it.
  • Non-sexual:
    • Our characters are going to have to go outside in the next day or two. I'm thinking that 2-4 PCs with 4-8 NPCs could make a run for Peter's home, where he is certain there are weapons, food, clothes, etc. This will be a dangerous mission and NPCs will surely die, and PCs could get hurt. I will create maps and hazard percentages. I want to write this in a separate thread so that we can post really short, fight and flight posts, then link it to the Story Thread.
    • I would like one of my PCs, yet to be created, to escort a PC -- female -- out of the library to her nearby Sorority or Dorm. They will face danger but survive ... and along the way get closer. Sex is a possibility, but I'm thinking that maybe that won't happen yet because either she or he or both are already taken and sex will only come later, if it comes at all.
    • Last but not least, I think we need to discover another group of people hiding and get them into the library. NPCs will be in danger, but no PCs will be harmed.

Hey guys, I won't be able to post today, I was very busy during the day and I will be very busy for the rest of the day as well. Just assume that Daniel is at the meeting, being shy as usual.

Here is a thought for a love triangle;

Derry's ex....who just dumped her yesterday....is still in the library, ( maybe his latest squeeze is there too ) anyways....Derry, could be fooling with Peter, and ...Ryan...doesn't like it..even though
she is not his anymore.

Dutchrain sent this to me in a PM. She is in Europe and likely asleep, so I wanted to post it now to gauge whether some of the guys were interested in a little adventure:

One of the characters in the library could by phone discover a friend and some other people are hiding in a garage. No food except what they had on them, only water. Maybe it could even be one of Daniel's friends who made it out off the stadium.

Daniel, Cramer and some others could go rescue them. Or Daniel tells them they have to drive one of the cars in the garage to a meeting point because he won't announce the library being his save place. That would imply they first have to fix one of the cars. Maybe a mechanic (the garage owner?) is part of that group.
Are any of the Characters mentioned above interested in having a friend in need? If so, post a reply here that you are going to be the one with the friend, then write a post about receiving the phone call. Put them on campus somewhere, not too far away ... maybe three or four blocks. We don't want their adventure to be too hairy on the first day.

Milkmaiden sent me a great link to a great Knight Library Maps page. If you click on the picture of either of the maps on the right, they zoom.

Now, a couple of thoughts about the use of these or other maps:
  • The maps at the link above are going to serve as the "blue print" for our adventure.
  • However, there might be some differences between what has already been posted and what the maps seem to suggest.
  • Don't worry about those inconsistencies.
  • I am going to use Paint on my computer soon -- maybe tomorrow -- to recreate the maps to function for us. They will include labels identifying where people are sleeping, where Lookouts are typically stationed, and much more.
  • It'll end up looking like a military fort and not a library. That'll be fun!
  • For now, however, if the maps as is offer you some inspiration, use them.
  • Just be aware that you aren't required to study the map before you post that your character did something somewhere. There will NOT be a Geography test or Fire Escape test at the end of class today. :D
Additionally, as time permits -- and you're going to think this is going above and beyond -- I am going to take my camera to the campus and get actual pictures of the Knight library, inside and out, and post them to an Image Gallery. I have tried to find suitable pics on line, and the official UO web site does have a few. But if you do a search for Knight Library pics, half of what comes up is NOT the Knight, but instead is other libraries ... and sometimes not even libraries.

I'm on or near the campus three or four times a week, so this isn't anything that is too out of the way to do. And besides, my OCD demands that I do it.

Concerning Characters:
  • There are 28 people in the library, including 8 children.
  • The list of characters already named is below.
  • The "slots" still open are indicated below in red.
  • These include NPC slots, which can also be upgraded to PCs if you wish to have a more involved character; and include some of my NPCs, which I am willing to give up if you want to write them.
  • Until we discover and allow into the library more survivors, new NPCs or PCs must fill one of these slots.
  • Of course, if you fill one of the Lookout/Scavenger slots listed under Peter, that slot moves under your name.
  • To give everyone a chance to write and/or supervise NPCs or PCs, please do not "drop" anymore names of characters in the Story thread if you already more than 1 NPCs or PCs on the list below.

LetUsWrite:
  • Peter Lee: Eugene Local; Grad Student; "Self appointed" Leader of the Library Survivors.
    • (NPC): Kip; male, 18, High School Student; Lookout and Scavenger.
    • (NPC): Male; Lookout and/or Scavenger.

    • (NPC) -- New assistant to Max.

  • NPC, female, Elementary School Teacher.

MAJOR CHANGE, FOLKS

I am finding it hard to keep the "real date" and the "game date" separate. I don't know how many times I have written an IC or OOC post and realized I have swapped months or dates.

None of you has used dates to a great extent, except for possibly as your birth year in your profile, so this should affect anyone harshly:

From here on, the game year will be 2017.

I am going to go back and change my OOC posts to reflect that, and anyone who has put a birth year in their profile (in addition to their age) needs to correct that.

I'm sorry that I am doing this to you, but it's just too confusing for me. The current real and game dates are only a month apart, and pretty soon they will be the same, and after that they will swap places. It's easier for me if we just pick a year in the future that we likely will never reach.

Again, I am sorry.

If anyone is interested ... probably one of the guy characters can recognize Cassandra from the local strip club. He could keep it to himself or threaten to reveal it if he didn't "get some” (assuming that all strippers must also be sluts).

Or maybe one of the school teachers can get upset about a stripper associating with the "kids". Anyhow just a thought.

Just a heads up concerning a plot upon which we are working:
  • It will be noted that there are basements, utility tunnels, and sewers that -- if someone knew how to get to them all -- could give a person access to a much greater portion of the campus -- and even the city beyond -- if only they could get to them.
  • Problem is: none of them connect to the library.
  • A mission to secure the court yard in front of the library will begin in the next day or two, game time.
  • By building some kind of barricades (as spoken of in the Story thread -- we can create a relatively safe corridor to which ever building gains us access to these underground paths.
  • And after that, exploring the city will be much easier.
And for you folk who need a clean pair of panties or a new tooth brush, a scavenging trek is being planned for Tuesday or Wednesday, game time, maybe out to 13th avenue, right behind the Library. There are plenty of stores there from which to "shop", including the Duck Store (the UO bookstore).

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been able to post in a while. RL has started up again, and I will only be getting busier. How about my char had slept through that entire meeting, and no one had found him, so he is really confused upon awakening? Is that fine? Because a lot has passed by since my last post, and I am having a hard time retaining all the new information, and it will be practically impossible for me to make sure everything fits up in my post.

Two things:
  • Concerning characters outside the library:
    • I've had some inquiries and -- while I initially resisted it -- I think that having characters outside the Library might be a doable idea.
    • As you already know, Iscaa and I are conducting a side story called "Zombies, Slave Masters, and Other Monsters" that coincides with our main story. (BTW, you are welcome to follow along if you wish but it is NOT a requirement. Nothing will be written in it that you HAVE to know to understand or participate in the main story. BTW, that thread is just for the two of us, so please do not post in it.)
    • So, there's no reason why some of you can't write in a totally separate thread either. (I wanted to start a side story so I had something to do while I waited for others to post in the main story, and there might be some of you that want the same thing.)
    • Here are some guidelines that will be important to writing in side stories. Please keep them in mind:
      • The main story thread is the LEAD thread. All writers will be reading it, but they might not be reading your side story, just as I am sure there are writers who are not ready the side story Iscaa and I are writing. (Which is perfectly fine: you are NOT required to read side stories in which you are not participating.)
      • Because the main story is the lead story, it's the one in which everyone will be reading and posting. New facts and information and events take place there that everyone will read and be a part.
      • If you post some important fact or story-changing event in a side story that others are not reading, they will not see it. Therefore, don't!
      • The side stories should build upon the facts and stats and such in the main thread and not create their own major, all-encompassing facts, twists, and plots on there own.
      • Does that make sense?
      • Good example: you post in your side story that the government doused Eugene with a zombie killing gas and 90% of the Zombies are dead. First off, you shouldn't be doing that: that's for the Host to decide. Second, if only half of the "Rebuild" writers/readers are reading your side story, that fact will not be known by all.
      • I think you understand.
  • Concerning the Game Date:
    • As I said earlier, having the "real" date and the "game" date in the same year had been confusing me, so I changed the "game" date to 2017.
    • What I didn't do was consult the actual "real" calendar to see what Day of the week our Date was.
    • They didn't coincide, so I am changing out dates again!
    • So, for the record:
      • The Zombie Riots began on 9 Sept 2017, not 7 Sept 2017 or even 7 Sept 2013, as had previously been stated.
      • And the current "game" date is the next day, Sunday 10 Sept 2017.
    • This might sound petty to you, but with me wanting to keep track of such things as resource depletion, etc., I need to be able to refer to a "real" calendar for our "fake" dates.
An Idea for a side story in which several of us can write:
  • I am a big "The Book of Eli" fan.
  • What about creating a location like the bar from that movie and having a "dictator" run a tavern/whore house/trading post?
  • Just an idea.
  • If it sounds fun to you, PM me. I'll put together some ideas and post another Discussion post here.

And I've got another crazy idea too: :D

"Babes in Zombieland"

Remember those 8 children living in the Quiet Room of the Knight Library's second floor? I am going to create a totally separate thread to track their lives.

This thread will be different:
  • OBVIOUSLY no sexually suggestive writing whatsoever, not even between the two adult teachers.
  • Short posts are permissible, so long as you don't get ridiculous. (Some of us have instant notification, and we don't want our phones/tablets/laptops beeping at us every 5 seconds.
  • The "facts" presented in this thread cannot usurp the facts in the main story, but they can follow the facts in the main story.
  • And ... well, I'm sure I'll have more to say later, but for right now, I have to start getting to work.

My idea here is that we can create a separate but parallel story line, from the point of view of the kids. Without a separate thread, the kids will rarely be heard from: they won't be able to patrol or scavenge much, they can't be involved in sexual content, and -- with the current and future adult characters -- we already have a busy story going on in the main thread anyway.

If you have interest, PM me.

Sorry, me again.

Blackpenman had to step out for a while. I have taken over his character, Daniel Campbell, who is a 20 year old Canadian hunter. I changed his profile around a bit, so if you have the time, check it out. There are some collaboration possibilities in it.

I will be writing Daniel as a hunter/lookout under Peter, but if someone wants him, you are welcome to him.

I have received some questions seeking clarification on the layout of the library and the conditions in the neighborhood around the library.

My original (ambitious) plan was to go down to the campus, take a bunch of pictures, and post them to an Image Gallery.

However, time restraints presented by real life are making that difficult. I may be able to accomplish that this weekend, and I may not.

In the meantime, though, I have what I think is a great plan. I am going to use Google Mape and its street view to give everyone a "real" visual of all I can. There will be people in the pictures, and they will represent our Zombies. (In cases where there are too many Z's, I may say just the men or just the women are zombies and the rest are not actually there, or something to that effect.

I will use screen sbots to create images from key locations, so you don't have to use Google Maps or street view; you only have to look at the picture.

Sound good? Questions, comments, and concerns: PM me.

I won't be around until sunday. If the scavenging party is done then, I will post a review of Ria's adventures sunday-evening or monday.

I like the idea of the google-earth map.

All,
The Zombie thread ("Rebuild") seems to have stopped. I think "Letuswrite" may be having techincal issues.

Iscaa and I have exchanged e-mails and are willing to continue the thread ... if that is ok with everyone.

Please let me and her know your thoughts.

Iscaa was willing to take over Max, and Cramer the farmer

She thought I'd be good as Peter. But if anyone wants to assume some of these characters to keep things going ... please let us know.

Also we have a basic plot outline as well ... but as with all RPs ... character actions will drive the direction the story goes. Anyhow, please let us know what you think.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,
First of all ... welcome back Blackpenman!!

Second ... and i know this is bad timing ... but i'll be off the web for the next few days. I will return 19 Sept. Please continue the story!! Please feel free to write for my characters ... I do not mind.

If you have idea about the story plot line. Please post them here ...unless there are surprise elements or private between two characters.

Basic the next major event is going outside ... my thoughts are to be sure to describe how awful everything is ... blood everywhere ... guts ... body parts ... really yucky stuff. Draft Sample below:

I opened the small service house for the gas pumps. It was dark inside and all the shades were drawn. I thought I could see someone near the back door. It was hunched over and squatting with their back to me. I came all the way into the service house and shut the door behind me, making a loud noise. The sound of the door shutting caught the person’s attention and their head lifted quickly as I watched.

I noticed the blood on the floor and the half eaten corpse in front of the squatting person and knew I had another zombie on my hands … but this time I did not have fear …I had anger. The zombie rose up and ran toward me … I raise my bow and fired an arrow right through its forehead, driving him to the back wall and pinning him to it. The head shot killed him dead. I guess I have watched too many James Bond movies and ended the encounter with “You’re kind of stuck up! Oh no better still … I hope you got my point!” I said to myself and finished with a giggle and I turned on the gas pumping system and filled up our tanks of gas and returned to the others.

Great passage gal!

Will keep on going, hope you have a great few days away. Take care.

Will try and be as gory as i can...lol

Isca, Blackpenman,
Please finish up the scenes go we can go fight some zombies!
Thanks!

Sorry, it's best that school is such a pain! I will try to post this weekend or before! but I make no promises. Sorry if I am a real pain, you can kick me if you want!
