That word is definitively black and as I said I grew up in that type of neighborhood and when we moved and I started going to a different high school with a bunch of caucazoids I used "poontang" and they were like "What?"

Who said something interesting; "I always think the reader is going to assume the character is white until I say otherwise." And its true. In our culture, the default skin tone in people's imagination is white. Unless we make it very clear-- usually because them being black is the point of the story-- black folk are kind of invisible in common storytelling.

From what I've learned over the years here's my suggestions on portraying race;
Using the term Black is okay. Describe your character's dark bronze skin, his height (because he's a basketball player) his hair. Avoid comparing him to chocolate or coffee, he's not ... except of course when his girlfriend is licking him all over
My black friends are more sensitive about their hair these days, it seems than anything, and I don't use words like "kinky" or "nappy."

Another way to portray his race is through dialogue. It doesn't hurt to give him lines that once in a while include one or two speech patterns we consider 'typically black' but one or two is enough, and don't write them out phonetically-- so distracting for the reader! You can have your guy call himself 'black' and even 'nigger' in dialogue. Not the narrator, though, not you as the author.

Naw, to not have your prose look awkward or like some political rally after a vote where some votes were more equal than others, you'd best use the individual terms that seem the most frequent in use, I would think. And, English being what it is, this wouldn't follow a regimented pattern.

Yet another area where I wonder why the squeamish are even reading/writing erotica and expect everyone else to be responsible for what they write/read. I think they should just leave others alone to write and read as they like and to take their own lumps if that doesn't suit a fan base. Too many "should mind your own business" vigilante toes in this pot, I think (many of whom show no evidence of even writing erotica themselves).

But, what you should do, because I am totally an expert due to being on Literotica, is fold in characteristics so the reader figures it out without you giving the stats. That way you can let readers know if they are high yellow, ridge runners, sallow skinned city dwellers, or all the other permutations. At least, that's my two cents.

I graduated from a pretty liberal department but their absolute bottomline was the proposition that folks aint equal, no way, no how. And they were merciless about expelling people who lacked the right stuff to do the work. My old research/statistics perfesser writes fuck books for cripples! And his characters are all damaged goods. But 30 years ago diversity was a good thing, now it aint. Modern PC reminds me of old Stalin shooting all the farmers and replacing them with perfessers who conformed to political ideology rather than agriculture science.

I agree! I was simply saying the use of black and white are clearly used as descriptors of race while the other colors are awkward, and that if you're not going to use "the individual terms that seem the most frequent in use" using race would read better.

But the PC crowd cannot leave it at that. If it is there and they find it offensive, then no one should be able to read it.

Political correctness, like many things, started with good intentions and ahs certainly done its share of good.

But like many things it has gone to far and what the "crusaders" do not realize is there is a far cry from trying to cut down on ignorance and challenging the right to free speech.

As for the topic of the thread I used nigger once in a story because it belonged there.

It was a fight scene between a black and a white and the white guy was looking for an edge to get his guy off his game so dropped the N word to piss it off.

That is reality and what goes on in a fight, find the weakness and exploit it. I once had a Kenpo instructor who flat out told me if in a fight with a black to ask him how he likes fried chicken or any other dumb ass thing to get him careless.

I had 26 comments on the story and one person was upset about it. Oh, well no one twisted their arm to read my work.

I find it ironic that this country was founded on religious freedom, yet the Christian God( the only one being worshiped initially at the time of founding) is the God that cannot be mentioned anymore.

An Asian family complained because it offended them, hence they were told by the administration to remove them.

It was discrimination to ask him to remove it.
