In modern times, Kipling's poem If could easily be adapted for women too. All that needs changing is the last three words from 'Man my son.' to:

"Woman, my daughter."

With thoughts of other current threads in the AH, I might add:

31. Protect women from rape, and their drinks from roofies.

And young men, too, they've been victimised at frat parties.

I was thinking, as I read that poem, that it seemed like being a fully-realised heroic human being.

I find it telling that a thread on gun control received hundreds of responses, but Larasscasse's thread about the gang rape of an Indian woman not too many replies.

But then again, who cares about rape right? But any gun debate draws all the finger wavers out.

I think I'll keep my guns and most importantly my daughters can keep theirs because society sure as hell isn't going to protect them.

Cops are better report writers than crimestoppers. I became born-again hardcore after an experience with the local SWAT guys. While I was in the barrel dealing with a crazed creep with a butcher knife the SWAT guys stood around outside with their thumbs up their asses burning cigarettes.

Oh, for fuck's sake, that again? As Dawkins says over and over in that book, DNA is not a human being.

The snappy title was never intended to imply that we have a gene for being selfish. . Even when he was publishing it, people were trying to tell him that fools all over the world would misunderstand it and use it as an excuse to behave like shit. He's kind of admitted that he fucked up.

I can try to influence the laws here in this country, and I can support organizations that can influence laws in India. But other than that, I don't have anything much to say about Indian civil rights.

Sorry but DNA is not a crystal. It is more like a elastimer or polymer. Crystals have ridged structure where DNA is flexible. Clay and Rust replicate in solution but do not form strands. The only similarity is in the fact that they are identical replications but that is true with almost any crystalline structure in the same batch of solution. They replicate what they have, whereas DNA can mutate.

I think almost everyone can agree that what happened to that woman was a revolting and digusting thing. Other than making a post along the lines of, 'yeah, those bastards! string em up!' what is there to say?

I don't think there are many people that really think that women don't deserve protection under the law and swift justice when there is no one there to enforce it. On the other hand there are MANY people out there that have a strong opinion on what your daughters should and should not be able to use to protect themselves from this very thing.

That perhaps explains the disparity between the two threads.

That said - Real men know when it's appropriate to employ the use of deadly force.

Female?

If we are going to quote Kipling this one, to my mind, is far more challenging.

http://www.potw.org/archive/potw96.html

I suspect that the third verse was written with Cloudy in mind, but for men, maybe we should contemplate the penultimate verse closely.

Dear? Dna is a crystal. Do some reading as to how Rosalind Franklin discovered it.

Dawkins and others (E.O.Wilson) recanted plenty of their 70s convictions, so as to avoid being shunned in the teachers lounge. I think Dawkins is clear about what genes do, his anthropomorphism is his own metaphor for what happens, and a stiff gene really has no conscience.

If frauds like Dawkins and Wilson hadda pay back the money they took for their bullshit, they wouldnt change their minds to suckup to the faculty faggots.
