It makes sense to GM's long-term investors as well. The Volt program isn't meant to be in its prime in 2012.

If the union dissolved or never existed Hostess would still be selling less Wonderbread every year.
How did you feel about the auto bailout?

$100k isn't very much. That's actually a very low salary for a corporation this size. Should be work for free?

Yes it can for two reasons:

1) They're playing the long game. Maybe Volts are sold for a loss today but they're not planning on taking a loss over a 30-year time frame. When Volts are produced on a larger scale, GM is making them with 3rd-generation technology, and the gas costs $5.90 per gallon, GM is going to profit off them.

2) The Volt program is only a slice of what GM does so even if it takes a loss (long or short-term) the company can still be profitable. This is what's currently going on now.

Toyota took a loss on their first and second generation Priuses. Did they stay in business?

So Toyota sold a LOT of cars for a loss. According to you they should have gone out of business.

The Prius program is still in the red for Toyota.

Priuses were not in high demand until they were around for like six years.

The "GM loses $50k per Volt" figure is from an absurd assessment formulated by a guy who refuses to spread R&D costs out over the life of a vehicle. It's Patriot Math designed to appeal to dimwits.

I didn't say the Prius is losing money. But it lost money on its first and second-generation models and the program as a whole has yet to make a net profit.

The Volt is still in its first generation with the second gen on its way soon. Let's see if the third-gen Volts are profitable.

According to your wiki link, about 40k Priuses were sold in the US its first three years compared to 31k Volts (in 2 years 10 months). When you consider that Toyota had the advantage of producing Priuses in Japan for three years prior I'd say that the fledgeling programs weren't that different.

I imagine any change would be hard on Americans where it pertains to healthcare. Everybody wants it but they don't really know what exactly it is that they want.

Okay, so the new healthcare law isn't perfect…but the old way wasn't working.

Regardless of what our nation goes forward with, it's going to cost. The problem is, no one wants to pay. In the news yesterday I read that a Florida Denny's manager posted a sign that he was adding 5% to bills because of ObamaCare. Ridiculous, but it was bound to happen and it's going to get worse.

btw, HI!
