Not hearing anything but keeping my guard and drawing my pistol I motioned to her to keepv moving. The shop was just coming into view and we had to keep going but keep everything as quiet as possible which meant no more talking. If something following us it would be foolish to stand idle and call out to it. Might another scared survivor or might be a predator, either way being out in the open was not going to work, once we reach the bike shop and get her some wheels and tools we would hunker down for a couple of hours and then head out, taking the long road back to my place.

Nodding to him I turned quickly making my way towards the shop. Opening the door I stepped inside. Taking a deep breath I tried to calm down. I had to keep calm. If I didn't I would just manage to scare myself shitless. Moving to the counter I climbed over it smiling slightly. Grabbing the keys I began my long walk down the isles looking for a bike that was the right size for me. "Do you need extra tires?" I asked as I unlocked the ropes that kept the bikes from being stolen. "This one works." I said quietly as I pulled a Schwinn Sidewinder. "Do you need a new bike while we are here?" Running my fingers through my hair I rolled the bike towards the door looking up at him.

"No," responding to her question of needing a new bike in a whisper, "but, yeah,get spare tires, a pump, patches, oil, whatever else you can get." Stay by the closed front door aftr checking out the shop. I wanted to ensure that whatever it wasthat made that noise wasn't following us and looking for an alternate route. Keeping my rifle at the ready and one eye on her and the other on the door and window I waited patiently as Kayla pulled out her selection of bike and then the collection of supplies. There was not enough room left in my pack for much else and if we were careful and disciplined we could last a few weeks on what we did get and hopefully by then obtain a motor vehicle and be able to leave Georgetown.

Nodding I grabbed rack bags and made my way towards him. I had grabbed a pump, spare rubbers and a large amount of other supplies. Zipping them into the saddlebags I touched his arm. "Are... are you ready to go?" I asked timidly. He seemed on edge. I didn't blame him. After a moment I heard a crash outside the shop before a rather cute looking German Shepard galloped into the street. Covering my mouth I began to laugh slightly. "It was a dog!" I laughed trailing my fingers down his arm before grabbing the handles on my bike. "I guess I"m just jumpy. Sorry." I said softly looking up at him.

I didn't want to admit I was jumpy when I was myself. I had to keep a strong appearance otherwise Kayla would lose confidence and become frightened. Fear is contagious and also causes more damage then what could be outside. Looking at the dog, a bit worn from eating scraps but otherwise healthy. Now would be a good time to go, but knowing the dog might bark or try to follow us. It probably hadn't seen a human in three days and having a dog would add security for the two of us. Looking at Kayla, "are you good with dogs?" Still asking in a whisper.

Looking up at him I shrugged. "I had a lab when I was a kid." I murmured before getting what he was saying. Nodding I opened the door and clicked my tongue. "Here girl." I said holding my hand out and snapping my fingers. It wasn't long before the dog ran over, sniffing my hand before licking my arm and face. Chuckling I rubbed it's ears and back. "It seems friendly enough." I said looking up at him. It didn't have any tags but it seems docile. "Looks like we have another member of the team. Smiling I tiled my head. "What should be name her?" I asked sweetly happy to see something that wasn't going to kill us.

Nodding I told her we would have to pick up dog food for our new companion that would be the limit of our endurance. Kayla would keep the dog with us as I took point and carefully slipped outside and checked our surroundings. The air was cold and still and dark but not sensing anything turned back and motioned for them to come along but also keep quiet. Going down the street,retracing our steps back to the grocery store we needed to pack dog food and anything for the dog ad when we get back to my place and get settled then we can name our new friend and get oriented.

Nodding I clicked my tongue for the dog to follow. Walking with my bike I felt an odd feeling of completeness as I walked behind Isaac. Things weren't as bad as they could be that was for sure. Maybe things would turn out right in the end at least I had made a new friend.

Running my fingers threw my short hair I walked through the isles looking for the dog food. Grabbing a good amount I stuffed them in my bag before grabbing a few chew toys a leash and a collar. "Come here girl." I said softly placing the collar around her neck before rubbing her ears and placing the leash on her. "I think we have everything don't you?" I asked as I looked for him.

Nodding, "Yep, good to go." And flashing a quick smile to keep her at ease. It would be a long trek back to my place and with our bikes burdened we woould not be going ver fast but we would be moving. "I'm taking point" straddling the seat and placing feet on the peddles before pushing off. My rifle was draped in front of the handle bars and my pistol at my side. Giving on to Kayla would only come after she gain some experience using one, otherwise she might shoot herself or me. Going down the street my eyes kept looking at the roof tops, even on buildings that had been gutted. Simply should not risk it.

Following after him I clicked my tongue at our dog before peddling behind him. "How long do you think till we get to your place?" I asked wondering if we would have to camp out or if we would make it in one day. I glanced at the dog to make sure it was keeping up.

The ride back was tense but uneventful. Going inside and checking the place out I invited my new companions inside and had them stow everything inside the basement and locked the front door. We would spend our time up stairs but sleep in the basement and if anything happened. Because none of us knew what was happening, if this was some sort of zombie epademic or not the windows were blacked out we use candles and since we had no power no worry tv but we had a radio and after we stowed everything I showed Kayla where everything was to be stowed as well as taking down a old cot for her to sleep on.

The journey seemed to drag on before we made it back to his house. Smiling I helped him place the things away before stopping and looking around the house. "You have a nice place." I said softly taking a seat once we were all put together. Rubbing the dogs ears I looked up at him. "So... what now?" I asked lightly tossing a ball to the dog cuddling up on his couch. "We should name her... I guess."

"We'll rest today" I replied sitting on my cot that was across from her, "Tomorrow we'll get to work on sorting through everything." There was a lot to do, sort the supplies, prepare them, and then weapons and radios. By the looks of it we were not going anywhere soon but fortunatey I have company to help pass the time and pitch in and I told Kayla that if anything happened to stick with me and do what I told her. There was little worry that someone would attack the house, but still we had the windows black out and we would do most of everything down in the basement to muffle the sounds.

"yeah, you should name her. You found her" smiling as Kayla petted her.

Smiling I nodded before looking to the dog. " what should I call you" I murmured rubbing her ears and watching her twitch happily. Chuckling I took the ball and tossed it. " How about twitch?" I said softly cuddling up again the arm of the couch. "So tell me about yourself Isaac. If we are Gunna be spending so much time together I don't want it to be with a stranger."

Nodding lightly I explained to her that I was in the Army many years ago, or it seemed that way, and came to Georgetown because of the isolation it had from many large cities and their troubles. I wanted peace and quiet and for awhile I had that until threee days ago and since that time just trying to tay alive and using my military training to do so.

Twitch came back with the ball and dropped it at Kayla's feet, wanting the play to resume. Looking at my watch it was only six in the evening yet glancing outside the blacked out windows it appeared that it was well past midnight. The thick layer of clouds had scrubbed out everything from the sun and eventually the stars, it would not be long until the plants would start to die.

"Go ahead and get some rest, if you're tired," I said to Kayla, "Or you can keep playing with Twitch, but we need to keep it down."

I smiled at him, listening as he spoke about his past. Tapping the couch I watched as Twitched jumped up and laid her head on my lap. "I guess I'm a little tired." I said softly rubbing Twitches ears before looking out the windows. "I wish we knew what happened." I murmured before leaning back and looking down. "Tomorrow will be busy but... I'm glad I met you Isaac. I'm not sure what I would be doing now. I'd be completely lost." Thinking for a moment I smiled. "Maybe you can teach me how to shoot a little tomorrow."

"Sure thing" giving a smile as Kayla lowly began to drift off. She could sleep, I would eventually but I had to make sure the place was secured and stayed that way. With Twitch it made it easier she could wake up and bark at anything suspicious allowing us to sleep more, but still being inside my own home I went and checked all the locks and windows twice before heading back down to the basement and racking out on my cot, pistol under my pillow and rifle underneth at the ready should it happen and slowly fell asleep.

I soon fell asleep with Twitch cuddled up next to me. I felt safe with Twitch next to me, I felt I would be safe.

Morning came quickly and as I woke up I yawned, feeling the sun through the dark clouds hit my face. Taking a deep breath I sat up finding Twitch not next to me but sitting by the door. With a bark she wagged her tail. Grabbing her leash I clipped it on before looking out the window. The coast was clear and I slowly unlocked the door and stepped out onto the porch. "Alright Twitch make this quick." I said softly standing on the porch and forcing her to do it just off the side, not wanting to leave the house to far out.

"Kayla? Kayla!" I shouted when I went downstairs and did not see her of Twitch as I had been in the attic sorting through old boxes. When they appeared to have vanished my heart began racing and putting the rifle to my shoulder went looking and stepping outside the sun was out which startled and temporarily blinded me. It was out! The sun was ou and the world was no longer dark! Blinking and clearing my eyes and scanning around there was Kayla and Twitch and my heart began to ease as I approached them, still somewhat blinded by the sun's appearance and a bit perturbed she went out without telling me but glad both of them were safe.

"Don't do that again," I said sternly, "nearly gave me a heart attack."

Looking over my shoulder I arched an eyebrow. "Sorry, Twitch needed to go out." I said softly before running my fingers through my hair. "You can put your gun down..." I murmured before biting my lip. Tugging on the leash I clicked my tongue. "Lets go Twitch lets go back inside." I cooed before moving towards Isaac. "Are you hungry? I can make us some breakfast." I said softly. Smiling I touched his arm as I walked past him.

Breakfast did sound nice, a lot better than the contents of a can and some company I nodded and ushered them back inside giving the yard one last look before quietly closing the door and locking down. The sun was out at least and it was warm and no fall out that I could see though I'm not a radiological person at least it can't be fallout from a nuclear bomb but those explosions days ago were intense and had me puzzled but as we went downstairs Twitch seemed to be at ease and that put me at ease as well, her senses were acute compared to mine.

"What do you have planned?" Asking Kayla as I went to my large cache of supplies and finally opened them seeing cans and boxes that needed to be sorted through and properly stored.

Unhooking the leash I tossed it on the couch before rubbing Twitches ears. "Well... If I can find the right things I'll be able to make some pancakes." I said softly before beginning to look through the cans and boxes. Grinning I began to grab different boxes and cans, handing them off Isaac. "I know I grabbed a box of powdered eggs." I muttered to myself before smiling to myself. Grabbing two more arm fulls of boxes and cans before nodding to the door. "Lets get cookin." I giggled walking up the stairs to the kitchen.


After banging and mixing I walked out with two filled plates covered in scrambled eggs and pancakes covered in strawberries. Blushing I bit my lip. "I hope you like strawberries and you don't mind scrambled eggs." I said shyly placing them on the table.

Liquid eggs, powdered eggs, I had my fill of them in the Army but when you're hungry enough you'll eat anything and after hooking up the small generator and starting it up that fed power to the house just enough to do the essentials, I said to her, "that'll be great." Willing to bet we lost weight through all this I placed my goods on the table and hastily put what as not needed away in anticipation of a good meal and after that we could do weapons training. Kayla needed to learn how to handle herself before we went on any sort of expedition and Twitch needed to become desensitized to the report of a weapons discharge.

Being on my own there was not a great deal of dishes and utensils, enough for maybe three people in the cupboards and just plastic not the high end porcelin or china, but hopefully it would be enough with a heavy cast iron skillet.

Sitting down at the table I smiled. "Well I hope it tastes as good as it looks. I'm not used to cooking with such bare supplies." I said softly. "I'll have to get used to not having fresh food." I mumbled before taking a bite. It tasted like food at least. "So what's the plan today?" I asked eating slowly before looking down at Twitch. "Oh sorry girl." I murmured and stood grabbing the chowmix and pouring it into a bowl, giving her another bowl with water.

Taking a stab at the eggs and carefully putting it inside my mouth, it was pretty good to say the least, but the pancakes were better. As we ate I answered her question, "well," between bites, "we should get the supplies stowed and our kits as well, shouldn't take long, then we go do some weapons training in the backyard so you ca at least hit something" chuckling lightly then my eyes shifted over to Twitch as she lapped at the water, "And you get to hear some weapon fire."

I really wished for a car and do some exploring and see the greater part of Georgetown and now that the sky cleared I felt better about our situation.
