Picking the picture frame up from her bedside nightstand, Emily fell down on her bed with a sigh. She let her slim fingers brush across the two faces of the young girls in the picture. They weren't that different in looks but in attitude, they were polar opposite. Or so they once were.
Growing up, the little girl with pale green eyes had been the superior girl out of the two of them. Angel had been her best friend from diapers until teens. She had taught Emily all the important lessons in life, showed her how to get the things she wanted, and simply showed her how to live and how to enjoy herself.
Before Angel had moved away a few years ago, she had made a change in Emily that she herself hadn't even noticed, until lately. She used to be the shy, innocent girl that would live to please others. Her needs were always placed beneath others, until she started standing up for herself. She was still that innocent girl, that hadn't really changed, but she was less naive.
"Emily, you're going to be late for your first day back from break!"
With a groan of displeasure, Emily's eyes opened to reveal baby blue orbs reflecting in the glass of the picture frame she was holding above her.
"Do I have to? I don't feel so good." She called back to her mom.
"Don't even try to pull that game with me, young lady. This is your senior year, you should be happy! After all, you only have one semester left of high school, enjoy it while it lasts!"
With a sigh, Emily slowly dragged her body up off of the bed only to face her own reflection in her mirror. Since it was only January, it was still a little too cold to wear shorts or skirts, so she was stuck with a pair of blue skinny jeans, a printed top, a black half jacket with sleeves, and a pair of black flats to match.
Readjusting her clothes, she quickly grabbed her purse, phone, and car keys before heading out the door and down her stairs.
"I can't promise that I'll be enjoying my time or having fun, but I'll at least show up and hope for something new to entertain me."
"Calm down drama queen, I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun. Oh and tell Jake that I said hello. You know, you really should invite him over for dinner this weekend, I'd like to spend some more time with him."
Rolling her eyes, Emily kissed her mom's cheek before heading out the door. It was a ten minute drive from her house to the school and she was there in no time. After parking and walking into the building, Emily dropped y her locker before making her way to her homeroom, English class.
The first thing she saw upon entering the class room, was the typical group of guys surrounding the hottest new thing. Probably just another skank that was enjoying the attention. Rolling her eyes, Emily made her way to her desk that was in front of the swarming guys.
"Hey Em, loosen up."
"Oh shut up, Justin." Emily called back, keeping her eyes towards the front of the room.
After the bell rung, her English teacher Mrs. Holcomb made her way to the front of the class where she began to take attendance. She made it to the end of her list before she looked up at the class and smiled wide.
"Well class, I wanted to inform everybody that we have a new student. Well not exactly new, but a returning student so to say. Angelica has returned, so everybody say hello."
Most of the words were just zipping through Emily's ears, into one and right out the other. That is, until she heard her former best friend's name. As soon as her teacher spoke that one name, Emily's body perked up and she heard the soft grumbles of greeting and chatter about Angelica being here. It took Emily a minute, but she put two and two together before turning around in her seat to come face to face with her best friend, Angel.
"Angel?" Emily spoke, shocked.
