The year is 1924, the Prohibition is in full swing and the supply of alcohol that many had bought prior to the passing of the Eighteenth Amendment has long run out. All across the United States, illegal liquor is being produced, bought and sold. Chicago has become a haven for those involved in bootlegging alcohol. Speakeasies can be found on every street corner, if you know the password. The most notorious speakeasy belongs to the Chicago Outfit, a branch of the mob run by Al Capone. This speakeasy, also known as a “titty bar” for the brothel it houses, is called the Diamond Club and is the most difficult of bars to get into. Based on invite only, it is the home base of Capone and his crew. Featuring live entertainment, dancing, gambling, food, and, of course, alcohol, the Diamond Club caters only to those with the money to pay for its amenities.

But the Feds have started to crack down on speakeasies all across the country, and Chicago is no different. Nightly raids are making it risky for people to venture to any bar, no matter how well-hidden it may be. Not even the Diamond Club is safe from a raid.

Those who enjoy the high life, however, are not about to let the raids end their good times. The Diamond Club is just as hopping as ever. The thrill of potentially being caught is growing and the patrons and staff of the Diamond Club are eager for a good time.

Name: Rosalynn “Rosie” McClure

Personality: Rosie is bubbly and outgoing. A real people person, Rosie keeps the men at her table talking and laughing (mostly so they don’t see her stack the deck) and always has a smile for a newcomer to her table.

Brief Bio: Born under the name Charlotte Humphry, she was the daughter of an Alabama farmer and his wife. The small farm did little to support Charlotte’s family - which consisted of her mother, father, and six children including little Charlotte. There was never enough food, and too much liquor. Often, Charlotte’s father would drink too much and beat on his wife and children. At the age of sixteen Charlotte had had enough and she ran away.

Eventually, she made her way to Chicago where, at eighteen she found a job as a waitress and changed her name to Rosalynn McClure, hoping to distance herself as much from her Alabama roots as possible. In a new city, with a new name, and a new found lease on life, Rosie began to push the boundaries of her formerly sheltered life. She made friends with the right sort of people, the ones who could – and did – get her into the speakeasies and underground clubs. It was during a trip to The Diamond Club with some of her friends that Rosie met Al Capone. The gangster was taken with her instantly. Though there was never anything romantic between them – he was a newly married man after all – Rosie and Capone became close. After he caught her cheating at a game of cards, he asked her to deal for his club, that way she would be making him money instead of taking it. Completely in love with the glamour of the Diamond Club, Rosie quickly accepted. She has now worked as a card dealer for four years.

Side notes: Try as she might, Rosie cannot get rid of her Alabama accent, which she absolutely hates.

During her time at The Diamond Club, Rosie has had a flirtation going with two men: one a customer, the other a bartender. Nothing has ever occurred with either man however.

Personality: Ruby is, to be blunt, a bit dense. She can laugh up a storm- even if she's the butt of the joke. Still, she comes off as a pure sweetheart... But sometimes people wonder if that's all just an act when a glimmer of deeper intelligence peeks through...

Brief Bio: Her Daddy was a gambling drinker, and her momma- well, she's not quite sure where her momma is. Her father was left the infant as a souvenir from a woman of the same employment his daughter takes now. In fact, her current job was a finding from Daddy... In a way. He was a frequenter of the Diamond Club for awhile, his money running low after a time. To compensate for his building tab, he offered his daughter's help at the bar as a Drink Girl serving the gamblers.

Unfortunately, Ruby is a klutz. A terrible one. Far too many glasses of precious booze was left on the floor or on suits, nearly getting the girl kicked out... Except her flirtatious ways with the patrons caught the Brothel Matron's attention. Ruby was more than willing to take a squeeze or smooch, in exchange for a trinket or a handful of change.

They told her it was a promotion. Even a room to herself! And she could flirt all she wanted... How great was that?


Side notes: Ruby may come off as a dimwitted sweetheart, but there's a rumor in the bar that she's got a sweetie of her own in the Brothel - Someone who knows exactly what is in the girl's head. (This can also be a frequenting female patron.)

Name: Richard Grimm

Age: 31

Appearance: Richard

Personality: Richard is a ruthless business man who knows what he wants and stops at next to nothing to get it. He is quite a gentleman when sober but isn't to good and handling his drink. He becomes a little rougher and more obnoxious when intoxicated but nothing ever bad enough to have him thrown out. Most of the staff of The Diamond Club put up with his rowdy behavior because they know that his pockets are almost bottomless and he tips well if you catch his attention.

Brief Bio: Richard had to build his life up from nothing and as a result of this he is quite intelligent and street wise. He is in a 9 year long marriage which seems prefect on the outside but is servilely lacking in physical affection behind closed doors. This is one of the main reasons why he visits The Diamond Club so frequently, because the waitresses don't mind if he gets a little hands on time for some extra cash.

The other reason he comes is because of the drink. Richard could of been referred to as some what of an alcoholic if such a label wasn't beneath such a successful man. He has a slight thing for a black jack dealer named Rosie although she isn't seeming to let on much. Richard is determent to get what he wants from this girl but knows that it would be wise to play it slyly with her.

Side notes: He can be seen within The Diamond Club almost every night of the week and is recognized as a local within the club

Name: Griffin

Age: 27

Appearance: Griffin has wide shoulders and a strong muscular physique. This is hidden somewhat by the customary dark suit that he sports. his hair, often covered by a hat, is short cropped and a dark brown. His eyes are a light blue that tell of the quick witted intelligence within.

Personality: He's a serious but quick witted man who has made his own way in the world. Determined and if you get on the wrong side of him, somewhat vengeful. Still he is usually good natured and he likes a good gamble with the dice.

Brief Bio:
Griffin is an immigrant from Ireland. His parents brought him over when he was four. They gave him an education and from there he set out on his own. Born and raised in New England he made a living with real estate and knows his business well. Chicago is his new city of conquest having been gradually making his way inland. The draw of this big city is irresistible to a man who likes to put himself up against the very best.

Griffin's older brother died when Griffin was nine years of age. His brother was called John and always wanted to make it in real estate. It is this love for his brother that drives him onwards. He will not fail because his brother deserved better and he will do better in his memory. Now twenty-seven, Griffin is a self made millionaire that risks money at some dice games, but usually wins. Rumor has it he has another million or two stashed away for investment into some casino's of the future.

Side notes: He's missing a finger. No one really knows why though it is whispered it was from a knife fight in the Bronx of New York.

Brief Bio: Leon at a young age was inspired to play the piano. Growing up in Louisiana he learned how to play all sorts of tunes on the 88 Ivory Keys. He became so good he was scouted one day for a club opening up the trick it was all the way in Chicago. he now stays in a very humble apartment after saving enough money to move in. On his off time he likes to write music and walk around, he every so often partakes in the occasional whiskey but now he must be careful. The club he works in is often shook down but he always manages to keep a cool head especially with his boss watching.

Side notes: Cajun sort of Accent Understandable but semi thick. loves to talk about anything. Hates Violence but can defend him self with fistycuffs if he has to

Personality: Daisy truly believes she's the life of the party, or at least she owns the joint. She's witty, and well educated, but very bratty and can be quite demanding.

Brief Bio: Her family is very rich and controls large segments of the city, she delights in knowing that getting caught at the Diamond Club would get her father into trouble with the papers (and all his bigwig friends). Daisy is an only child, and her mother is always very ill, leaving Daisy to be raised by the help, to whom she is very loyal.

She's well traveled for her age, and believes herself to be very worldly and wise (though others may think this delusions of grandeur).

Side notes: Daisy is bi-sexual

Name: James (Big Jim) Bronco

Appearance: "Big Jim"

Personality: Big Jim is aware of everything. Loves the ladies. Those "just legal enough" are is favorites. All ways looking for a new voter (dead or alive) He believes that just because you died doesn't mean you gave up your right to vote. Party man till the end, and it doesn't matter which(Politial) party it is. He believes the rich should be able to keep all the money they make(as long as he gets a cut)

Brief Bio: Born:James Travis Bronco-Waco Texas-1896 His father Brewster Bronco worked on the Texas Central Railroad as a brakeman. In 1901 his train fell in to the Great Gorge when the bridge breaks up. His mother Glady(Barker) Bronco flees flom Waco with the three childern. Tommy, James and Sally. They moved to St. Louis and in 1910 Glady married Max Martin. Max is a mean man and beat the children regularly. After 2 years (at 16) James stabs Max and is sent away to a state school for boys.

In 1914 James is released from the school for boys and joins the Army serves 4 years mostly in the signal corp. A runner for II corp. He meets many officers. One is Major Mark Koposki of Chicago Ill. The Major is a supply officer that drinks a little to much. One night the Major is stumbling around near his office and a supply truck all most hits him. He was saved by James. Who pulles him out of the way just as he was ab out to be hit. The Major says" When you get out of the army look me up."

Two months later, James is out of the army. The war is over and the army is bringing men home and releasing those that have served their time. James makes his way to Chicago and finds Mark.
"The Mayor needs a good man to run the 3rd Ward, and I think your just the man to do it." The 1920 election is fixed. And surprise, surprise James wins.

Side notes: Has an office on Grand Buld. and 43 street. 43 street is the only street in the district that runs East and West and runs into Lake Michigan. Story has it if you screw up on one end of 43rd you could end up at the other, the watery end

Player: Lady_Gamer

Name: Marjorie "Lady" Matthews

Age: 26

Appearance: Lady is 5'8" with a curvaceous figure (36D-30-38). She wears men's business attire with a loosened tie and typically lacks a jacket. Her vest and pants are of a smart pin strip variety, and her white button-up shirt nearly always has the sleeves gathered and held above her elbows. Her light brown hair reaches just beyond the base of her shoulder blades - it's soft curls is usually held back by a black ribbon. Her eyes are violet.

Staff: Barkeep

Personality: Jorie is extremely secretive. She doesn't like to talk about her past - no one is sure of whence she came, much less the reasons she refuses to impart such information. Despite this, she is certainly likeable. She's quick-witted and has quite the mouth; she's known to be playfully combative with the patrons and fellow staff. And when someone seeks a place at the bar simply to drown their sorrows? She's more than willing to listen to their problems, as any good barkeep should.

Brief Bio: As above, little to nothing is known of the woman's past. She seems to genuinely enjoy speaking to others about their own lives, but she never offers anything about herself. Questions of such often causes a change in mood for the worse.

It might have been noted a time or two that she thinks her past is insignificant - she denies that her "grand secrets" would equate to anything for anyone to get excited about. Still...it seems enough for her to ruin her personal relationships over. She's chased off at least two lovers during her employment at the Diamond Club because of her inability to let anyone past her guard.

She loves her work. The distraction of others is a Godsend.

Side notes: The woman introduces herself as Lady - she loathes her full name and rarely to never uses it. As her fellow staff members will be aware, it is best to call her Jorie if anything near her actual name.

The OOC is now open to discussion about the game.


Also, I'm considering adding a character that could potentially be an undercover agent. This character can be someone already in the game or a new character if I get more bios. Only myself and the player will know if they are the undercover agent. If you're a current player in the game and are interested in making your character the agent, let me know. Or, if you are someone who is submitting a bio put a note with the bio that you are looking to play as the undercover agent. Thanks!

Name: Dwight "Clean Liver" Cartigan

Patron or Staff: Staff. Bouncer.

Personality: Meticulously polite though somewhat distant when normally dealing with staff and patrons. Brutally efficient when dealing with troublemakers, particularly any that threaten the "working girls" upstairs. Rarely speaks unnecessarily.

Brief Bio: After returning home from the Great War, Dwight went through several short-term jobs, everything from construction worker to amateur prizefighter. He has most recently taken a job as a bouncer for the Diamond Club based on a reference from his boxing coach.

Side notes: Has not had alcohol since he returned from the war. Thus the nickname.

Name: Priscilla "Priss" Fairchild

Appearance: Strawberry blonde, blue eyes, 5'8",

Patron or Staff: Patron

Personality: Can be aloof at first but very loyal once she gets to know you. Tends to be a bit of a snob.

Brief Bio: Born in London, England, Priss's family moved to Chicago when she was 16 to invest in steel companies. Coming form a wealthy background Priss is used to getting what she wants, but she isn't without care of soul. She's very thoughtful and would have liked to have been a nurse, had her family allowed her to work. A spoiled rich girl, she fritters away her inheritance on gambling and drink, the only cure for her boredom. That and sex.

She was engaged to be married once, and may have been in love, but her fiance was killed in a fire. Since then, she tends to dissociate her heart from any relationship she takes up with the opposite sex. Priss can be described as witty, dry, and sophisticated.

Side notes:She is a crack shot with a pistol or shotgun, as her father taught her how to hunt as a child

So, I've been absent for a little bit and apologize for that. I see that the game has fizzled out and am just doing a check to see if people are interested in continuing the role play or not. If you are interested in keeping this SRP going, let me know.

I am still interested. It is a shame people can not make a commitment when they apply for group threads. This is a good thread to based off of one of Americas semi darkest moments in history. Gangsters fighting to make business the best they could against the US government.

I'm still interested in continuing. I'm not sure what happened to people's involvements but I'd like to try something with this theme even if the current thread is not possible.

If this gets going again, I might be interested in joining. I have a variety of girls I could bring in, but since I'm a writer, I can play male chars as well. Just give me a heads up.

I'm glad people are still interested. Since a fair amount of you are still interested in writing this SRP then I won't rework anything and we'll just continue with the story. Though, I do think I'll open up casting again to see if we can get some new blood.

Personality: He likes to keep a low profile since he doesn't enjoy working on the shady side of the law. However, he can be quite charismatic and charming when he opens up to people.

Brief Bio: Elliot was born in and raised in Brooklyn, New York to a family of eight. He was the youngest of the bunch, and certain luxuries that the older siblings enjoyed could not be afforded for him since his father died when he was 18. Looking for funding to pursue go to college, his childhood friend told him that work was aplenty in Chicago. What he wasn't expecting was that most of this work was underground. Before he knew it, Elliot was unwillingly coerced into running booze from distribution points to clubs all across the city for Al Capone. The money was good, but it was dangerous work, and nobody was better at it than Elliot. In time, he became the top runner in the entire city. He now runs booze exclusively to The Diamond Club to a certain someone who works there, but he usually stays for a drink or two after the job to avoid raising suspicions about a guy who keeps coming in and out of the club several days a week without doing anything.

Side notes: Elliot doesn't actually have glasses but earned his "Four Eyes" nickname for pursuing a college education.

Name: Margaret "Margo" Copeland

Personality:
Margo is smart and serious, and has always held herself to a high standard. Her mother died when she was young, and her father, a professor, has raised her to be an independent, intelligent person - albeit a bit sheltered. More than anything, she wants to be "normal" socially - as normal as a single, professional woman can be in 1924. Despite her attempts to "fit in", her lack of a conventional upbringing sometimes shows in her naiveté.

Bio:
Margo has devoted her life to studying, working and getting ahead in a world dominated by men. By society's standards she really should be married, or at least courting, but she was always less than feminine (due to being raised by her father) and more concerned with school and work than marriage and making babies. She finished high school and graduated college early. Fascinated by the legal system, but moreso the "enforcement" end, she pestered her way into a position at the FBI - she had an advantage in that they frequently sought the counsel of her professor father, and the chief was impressed with her tenacity. Specifically, she was hired to work as an undercover agent and infiltrate the infamous Diamond Club. When she found out that the only females they were hiring were dancers, she threw herself into her new role and got hired there, wanting to prove to the FBI that she was no less committed to her profession as a woman.

Her task is to find out the inner workings and report her findings.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, she finds herself connecting with the people of the "seedy underground" in ways she never expected. She'd become accustomed to fighting for respect in a man's world, but there's a sense of camaraderie in a group of people participating in something illegal together.
