Jasleena Cyndell
Trophy Wife, occasional rage target

A few years her husbands junior she had more money than she ever could have imagined but with all that money came the prison of a life that her husband enforced well. Save for any of his people there were few if any outsiders allowed around her unless it would further her husbands standing in carious circles if his wife and their wives were friends. Then with death of a guard who tried foolishly to stop him from hitting her within days another guard was there. Someone one of his "Generals" recommended from the lower ranks.

He was strange to her... nothing like the others that worked for her husband. While he appeared at least to them to be just as ruthless and brutal she saw something. Something that brought them slowly warily together something that made her risk her husband's rage and her own death to feel the safety and tenderness he offered.

The last thing he was supposed to do was fall in love with the wife of the biggest undercover bust of his career but something about her made him want to keep her safe to show her there was tenderness and safety in the world... in the long run to save her.

She sat back relaxing on the veranda staring out over the only real part of the world she got to see save for shopping trips when he wanted her out of the house for business meetings. Legal and official ones she was always expected to stay and entertain treating those meetings like a party to lavish food and wine on his guests to get what was needed for her husbands real world and business.

Everything that happened in the Cyndell compound stayed within the compound to the point he had hired his own medical staff security... grounds everything anyone could want except true freedom to come and go as she wished. Always a driver and a body guard though of late her driver and bodyguard was going to be one and the same not that she cared any more. Not after she had to watch the man that tried to stop Antonio Cyndell her husband from hitting her be executed by Antonio.

Little mattered any more she was resigned to this being her life from here till death. The whirlwind fairytale romance turned into a prison she knew she would never escape. Antonio could be still be that loving caring man she met but in an instant could become this horrific monster that she could scarcely imagine. Such was life and probably always would be. She chose to remain out of the house while new "associates" were being brought into the "inner folds" of the operation and into the compound.

More poor souls for her husband to command so that he could keep his public face and his real world separate by never getting his own hands dirty.

Antonio Cyndell, by all accounts, looked like a business man and on paper he was. The Cyndell fortune, however, was very much off the books. A man like Tony didn't get where he was by being stupid or overly greedy which is why he was almost untouchable and he knew it. The same money that paid for secure walls and doctors that didn't ask questions also paid for police information, legal red tape and sometimes even a judge to look the other way.

There were only a few vulnerabilities in Tony's organization and the biggest was his wife. "Jasleena." It was as if saying her name were both to announce his presence and call her attention at the same time. Without even a break in his stride Tony walked up and leaned down to press a wanton kiss against his wife's mouth with no regard to how much or little she reciprocated. "This is Mason." he gestured to the man who'd come out on the veranda and was now looking out over the garden. "Mason" cast a glance at Jasleena but turned back to watch the garden just as quickly.

Tony continued, "He's going to replace Steve who's... well, he's not going to be returning to work any time soon." He walked to a table and sat down. "Mason. I believe Jasleen was going to go out around 11 this morning so bring the car around no later than 10:45. Understood." Tony hadn't been told of his wife's plan, in fact his statement was nothing short of ordering her to be out of the house by 11.

Mason just nodded, "Understood, Mr. Cyndell." he checked his watched, eyes darting over Mrs. Cyndell for a moment and back as if waiting for further instruction.

Tony just ignored the younger man and gestured to the chair across from him, "Sweetheart? Aren't you going to join me for coffee?"

As if trying to figure out what to do with himself, Mason wandered towards the doorway and simply lingered half in and half out of the house.

Having heard him call to her she was roused from her thoughts. Then the kiss... good he was in somewhat of a good mood. She smiled softly pressing into the kiss.

Hello Darling...

Looking over from the chaise lounge she nodded to the young man. Well he certainly had been trained well barely a glance Damn Antonio she thought to herself it would be nice to be even the remotest of friends with the person she is stuck with.

Nice to meet you Mason.

Hearing what Tony said about being gone technically before 11 am she thought quickly for a moment.

Yes We will start with shopping in old town and then lunch on the riverfront.

Moving to stand from the chaise and walking over to the table

Coffee sounds wonderful Tony

Sitting down across from him with a smile she nodded to Mason as if to dismiss the young man since her husband failed to do so.

Mason, not making eye contact, nodded and turned to leave.

"Mason," Tony reached over and took Jasleena's hand. Pressing a kiss to it he smiled at his wife. All the while Mason could do nothing but stand there and wait to hear what Mr. Cyndell had called him back for. It was Antonio's way of marking Jasleena like a wolf, making it clear that she was his. Finally he continued, "10:45. Don't forget."

Mason nodded, turned and left.

Tony must have been in an especially good mood. He actually gave Jasleena's hand an affectionate squeeze, smiled, and let to go sip his coffee. Lifting his iPad to it's reading angle he looked at the display while making small talk.

"I wonder if Mason has a girlfriend? Attractive young men like that often have high maintenance girlfriends which can make things quite inconvenient. Wouldn't you agree?"

He was baiting Jasleena. Clearly trying to get a feel for her opinion of Mason's looks.

Who knows dear... one so young I would guess several girlfriends... but then again I recall our dear butler once accidentally telling the wrong girlfriend that Ethan was off one day and out with his girlfriend.

Should be entertaining with one so young being moved up... Hopefully he will inform those that deal with such matters for everyone around here if that is the case.

She would not be baited she had no interest in dealing with anyone she was friends with her bodyguards/drivers. She had seen one killed simply for trying to get Tony to calm down instead of hitting her so she would do nothing that would get anyone hurt.

So how long should this shopping trip be My love?

If her words had swayed Tony's opinion or put aside any concerns his face didn't show it. He was, after all, a master at keeping his cards close to his vest. "You might be right." Was all he said.

"Come back an hour before sunset. If I'm not going to be home for dinner I will personally call you." He paused a moment, then fixed serious eyes on Jasleena, "If you don't hear from me by dinner time call Vinny's phone and leave him a message that you're looking for me. Don't try to call me."

He paused a moment then smiled and returned to his coffee as if he hadn't just given her grave warnings. Not really having anything left to say, or a real desire to talk further. Tony just finished his coffee and put his iPad.

"I have to go. Have a good day, and try not worry." He kissed her forehead and left her on the veranda.

She simply nodded at his words his threats were second nature now to her. Smiling at the kiss she finished her coffee and headed in to get dressed for the day. Slipping into the long crimson velvet skirt and black and crimson blouse and slack heels she fixed her hair up and finished preparing. Once downstairs she glanced to Delia and gave her a few instructions for preparing for dinner whether Tony was there or not then walked outside to the car.

Mason, still wearing the same jacket and jeans, stood leaning against the large town car. When his eyes fell on Jasleena all the previous focus he had drained away. A mumbled word escaped his lips, still too low for anyone to hear. just as quickly as he'd lost composure he was right back to business.

"Miss." He quickly recovered and went to open the back passenger side door.

Old town and lunch on the river will just be the beginning of the day Mason.

She smiled suspecting that his saying miss instead of ma'am was the suspision that she was a kept girlfriend not wife. Once in the car she was rather quiet beyond small talk of weather and travel plans for the day. She was never sure if Tony ha the cars bugged or not.

Once they were in old town she showed him where to park since old town was restored for solely foot traffic. Once they were out of the car and well on their way walking she loomed to him.

While it is not miss as I am his wife I am not so distant and cold as my husband. I have no problem with being friends if you will with the people my husband feels should body guard me. So tell me about yourself Mason?

"Sorry, miss- ma'am." Mason seemed nervous. "I've only been working for your husband for a few weeks now. Still learning the protocols."

He seemed to relax at the question, "Well, I'm glad to know you feel that way. To be honest it was thinking it would be hard to do this job if I had to stay several feet away from you at all times."

"I guess you could call me a bit of a country boy. Grew up outside of Dallas,Texas. Had my share of run-ins with the law. Joined the military to stay out of jail and got jaded by a system that demands everything and rewards nothing." He shrugged, "that's my life."

Mason's delivery however was almost too smoothe, as if he'd been waiting for her to ask about him just so he could deflect.

Interesting... She raised a brow. Mason are you nervous around me for any particular reason? Or was your answer more of my husbands training?

She knew the stores of old town by heart as she had grown up in an apartment above the oldest store in this area. She glanced at the windows from time to time but was intent on learning about her latest warden. His eyes were not as hardened as he wanted her to believe that life had made him that made her curious but she knew answers would come in time.

"I don't know." Mason said with barely contained nerves. As if knowing she would have been able to tell he nodded, "To be honest, I am a bit nervous. I don't want to do anything that would get me in trouble. I need this job." That last part, at least, was 100% truth.

Falling in step more, Mason began walking along side Jasleena. His body language was becoming a bit more relaxed, but he was clearly keeping his gaze from finding it's way to his charge whenever possible.

I grew up in this neighborhood. Third floor apartment in that quaint old building right there.

She pointed to an ancient but well preserved building across the "road" from them. She was smiling... honest and relaxed smile. She was not as formal and distant as she had to be around Tony. Pointing out different things and telling him the historical points of the area. She was truly happy here.

Mason listened to each detail, in a genuine and very real way. He wasn't simply placating the woman but even asked question or for more detail on a story. From time to time he'd recount is own tale of growing up with two sisters and a mother, being the only man in the house with his father having been killed in the Gulf War.
"Wow, I'm not even sure why I'm telling you all of this. Sorry. Must be your disarming smile!" Mason said with a laugh. "I mean, I've seen you smile but... I don't know. It's just nice to see you truly happy and in your element. It's very calming."

Well thank you Mason and I don't mind you telling me this at all. SO have you been to any of the places along the river front? I thought we might get lunch there after that I don't know what I had wanted to do... can't remember

She laughed a little it wasn't that she can't remember just she was not sure what to do to take up all the time he told her to take. Pausing she watched some children playing in the fountains in the little park that Old town surrounded then watching happy old couples feeding the birds and sighed. It was so different than the life she found herself trapped in. So peaceful and truly happy.

She glanced over to Mason.

There is something about you thats far less hardened against the world that you want people to believe... but don't worry I won't tell anyone. She laughed and continued walking along stopping looking in windows and occasionally stepping into the shops and having her purchases delivered back to the "house".

"Actually, this is my first time I've been to this area so I'm glad I'm here with a pro."

He laughed a bit when she said she wasn't sure what she was going to do. "I take it your husband wants you to stay out his hair. Makes sense."

He looked around Old Town, forcing himself to do his job between shopping trips. "Is there a theater here? I mean, if you needed to kill time I'd be willing to sit through a foreign film so long as Qi Shu's in it." He chuckled playfully.

Something like that...

She sighed that the boy pretty much hit it right about Tony's "ruling". She dismissed all of her thoughts on that and glanced around once more.

I am sure we could find something around here I think there is a theater near the riverfront. So what sort of food do you like? There are several different kinds of places along the riverfront.

Just a little thing since you have not been working for Tony long I will let you in on a little secret be careful what you say in the cars... its a good bet he has them bugged.

"Oh, I'll eat just about anything. Cooked or otherwise. My mom didn't raise a picky eater."

Mason's hand rose as if on it's own, lingered and then slipped through his short hair as if it wasn't sure what to do otherwise. He finally gestured for her to lead the way.

"Thanks. And as long as we're doing the full disclosure I have to let you know your husband wanted me to tell him if you flirted with any guys while we're out today."

That does not surprise me at all... Well I hope I have not flirted with anyone.

She laughed a little.

Though you realize to be far more business like with me around him.

She shook her head as she had to think on her husband again. She loved him but so much had changed from their fairytale courtship and wedding. Now it was simply time to settle for Jeckyl and Hyde and more money than she could have ever wanted.

Mason smiled conspiratorially, "Well, I'm pretty bad a telling when a woman is flirting, so I'll probably never had anything to report on that front."

He nodded to her advice, "Oh, I know when to keep things professional. I hear people who-" He paused then continued, "I heard the last guy to look at you for too long lost his job."

Yes something like that.

That made her turn away from him briefly shaking her head a little to clear her mind as memories of her late friend Steve simply tried telling Tony to take a step back and calm down and paid his life for that innocent act.

"Hey, are you okay?" Mason risked a hand on Jasleena's shoulder for a moment, then pulled his hand away suddenly. "I'm sorry, did I say something wrong?"

Full disclosure I guess you should know Houghton never tell anyone that you know any different but...

She bit her lip hesitant to tell him but he was so young maybe younger than her 28 years. He needed to know if it mattered... the kind of cruel monster he worked for.

Steve was...

She could not Bring herself to say it.

Mason moved around to be in front of her, trying to meet her eyes. "Did you husband have him killed?" Oddly his tone was that of a man who already knew the answer but wanted confirmation. Yet there was no fear for his own safety either. Mason truly was simply a young man who wanted to know the undeniable truth.

Yes...

Her voice was barely a whisper as she looked at him biting her lip.

He simply tried to...

She straightened up looking at him trying to plaster a smile on her lips.

Well now how about lunch... Japanese sound good... or maybe Greek?
