Do some Masters or Dom's out there use different collars for different situations. I have been considering getting my pet a collar for play/home time and then a dress collar or a really nice one she could wear out when we went out. What do you guys think. I am still a fairly new Dom/Master.

There isn't a right way when it comes to collars. Some Dom's don't even use them so do whatever feels right for your relationship.

I would recommend that the going out collar be one that she can easily remove if needed though especially if she will be wearing it when she is not with you. It can be a bit worrying to know that someone can grab a locked on collar and you can't get it off or away from the person that grabbed it.

Yes i agree with the easy to remove part. I would never want to endanger her at all. I also know that every Dom is different I am just looking for input and ideas. Thank you very much for your thoughts kiwi.

I had one girlfriend who had a simple unadorned dog collar (or maybe it was a cat collar? It was very small and she had a very small neck) that fit rather snugly. She didn't like strangulation but liked the feeling of something lightly holding her neck.
She wore this, by choice when we went out, and I was rather new to the concept at the time.
Her reason for wearing it was she wanted guys to know she was with me. Ultimately she wanted me to get her a collar for her to wear at home as kiwi submissive suggested, but again, it was a new concept for me at the time.

Thanks for the input. I am kind of a late bloomer to the concept i guess. My wife actually introduced me to this site and to the Dom/sub life style.

Discuss with her what type of collar/s she would prefer or feel more comfortable with.

Some people only like to have one collar as they don't feel a connection to a different one.

Also she might find different types of collars more comfortable for different things. I love metal collars because they don't make me feel like I am being strangled especially when sleeping and you can swim, have a shower etc in them and not worry about them causing skin reactions or having to remove them first.

My "collar" is actually a gold ring on my finger (not a wedding ring). It is the symbol of my submission. I have 3 different neck collars. He uses them on different occasions for different reasons.

My view on this might be unusual, but does she WANT a collar? The commitment it seems to represent is beautiful, but I personally feel as if I'd be added to a collection of girls if offered one, and I'd even go so far as to say I'd be insulted by this. It's a risk to take much like thinking of proposing. I'd mention it in passing and watch her reaction closely.

How does SHE feel about it? Does she feel a collar around the neck too conspicuous for everyday life? Perhaps another piece of jewellery would be more comfortable for her.

At first I could just say its about my wants, but I am not like that. We have talked and she has requested a collar. I did tell her that she would be required to earn hear collar it is not something I would just hand out. After she has shown her loyalty to me even though we are married. I mean the loyalty of a pet not of a wife then I would consider getting her a collar to wear daily.

This is true for us. We have a collar (actually a few different ones) for play, and I used to wear a necklace for everyday. It is broken right now (I've been wearing it for 12 years), but I've told Master that in the ways that matter (to me), my piercing is every bit as symbolic as a collar or anything else could be.

Thank you for all the input. I am gonna go tomorrow and buy a simple leather collar. She has earned that one for now. I have a Second question. I am thinking/planning on getting a tag made to put on it. It would be a strictly play time and at home one. Do you guys have any thoughts on tags being put on a collar?

Are you asking about the tag itself or about what to get written on it? I think tags are really cute. Master has not given me a collar yet, but I know it'll have a tag on it with my nickname (he hasn't mentioned it but I know him too well). I can't think of a reason why someone would specifically dislike a tag, but maybe others on the board can.
