Dan was walking down the street. It had been a hard day of work – big company meeting that had lasted three hours, lower than expected profits, company needed to look overseas to cut production costs. He was an engineer at plant there and it was his life ever since his wife died. He wasn’t overly concerned about losing his job, instantly at least, but many of his friends worked in the foundry and that was surely one of the first things to go. They were his lifeline, how could he go on without them? Walking and thinking, oblivious to the noise and commotion around him, too focused on the problems of his life: work, the fear, and the loss of his wife three years before.

He arrives home and after an hour he starts supper, tomato soup, something easy; he never really the cook his wife had been - all this time and he was still hung up on her. Of course not changing a thing about their home probably didn't help, but he just couldn't part with it, the memory of her. He eats in silence in the empty house, just like every day. He brushes his teeth, showers and then is off to bed. The next day is just the same, or so it seemed, but on his way home from work he saw her, the person who would change his life forever.

(You don't ask for PM first, so I'll jump in. If you already have a partner, I'll delet my post ;))

She had been following him for a long time, but finally she decided she had to jump in. Since his wife death, his life had been on a spiral down. He didn't seem to be able to recover from that shock, although it had been time enough for him to do it. He wouldn't go out with his friends. He wouldn't try and get to amuse himself in any way. He would just sit down alone at home, missing her. He didn't even seem to want to take care of himself, maybe wanting to follow her.

And Jane wouldn't let that happen.

That day she waited for him on his way home from work. She just stood in front of his door, thinking about what she could do. How she would approach him, without causing such a disruption. And there she waited, on a bench on the other side of the road for some days. He wanted him to take the first step. That would set things going.

And finally, one day, he spotted her.

He spotted her, but who was this her, he just wasn't quite sure, but there seemed something vaggly familiar about her face... somehow it felt, like home was the only thought that came to his mind, but that couldn't be right, he didn't really even know her.

He decided he had to approach her, but how. He marched to the bench, sat next to her and state, "wondeful weather isn't it?" the sun had been shining, but at he finishes his though there is a crack of thunder. "Oh, where did that storm come from?" Looking up he says dark clouds building, "Do you have a place to go, to get out of the rain?"

Jane wasn't expecting that.

She had been quite surprised at his stopping to look at her. He had seen her thousands of times. She had passed him by in the street, she had had a cup of coffe next to him in bars (that of course had been at the beginning, when he still had coffee outside his house), they had been in the same buses and subway wagons, and she had even been to his office a couple of times. But he had never noticed her. Not until today.

So she was quite stunned that he had come and talked to her. And even invited her home. He must have the feeling he knew her. Otherwise he wouldn't have been so courteous with her.

And now she had that dilemma. Should she accept his invitation? She shouldn't even be talking to him, she was supposed to just look after him at a distance. She had gone too far. But if she backed out now, maybe she wouldn't be able to approach him again. So Jane didn't know what to do.

But suddenly it started raining, she got her answer from the sky.

"Well, I guess I could use a roof until the storm abates." she said with a smile standing up.
