The Playground Health Club

For those that are trying to live a healthier lifestyle. Feel free to post whatever you like regarding health and fitness. Workouts, recipes, goals, questions, advice, your story, be accountable, receiver/offer support etc..

I started almost two years ago, after a pretty rough bout with anxiety. I started by walking and doing yoga, then progressed to running, strength training and things like P90x. I'm down about 3-4 clothing sizes, but would like to lose about another size or two before a wedding that I am in this summer, so I am embarking on a stricker regiment for the next few months. I am also working on being able to run for an hour straight, doing a pull-up and a flatter tummy.

Topic #1- What are your 2015 health and fitness goals?

Great thread.

For 2015, I'm looking to lose 30-40 pounds by the time I go on a trip this summer. During the end of the fall and over the holidays, I worked out less and had a VERY bad diet. So, of course, I packed on the weight.

My biggest issues are portion control and snacking between meals. I'm hoping to cut that down significantly and opt for healthier snacks. In the past, simply doing that and working out regularly has allowed me to keep the weight down.

Good luck to you, snowkitten! Sounds like you've got a plan as well.

Thank you! Good luck to you too, WD!

Sounds like you're off to a great start with identifying what to work on first!

my goal is simply to get off bp meds. If other good things happen along the way, I won't complain.

Mmhmm...yes, it sounds like we both want to look good this summer. You in a dress and me in a swim suit. *chuckles* Though I bet you already look pretty great...

This has always been a favorite of mine. If you're male, just switch the pronouns.

I'm starting off with simple goals to start the year.

1. Drink more water
2. weight training 3 - 4 days a week

My goal is 15 - 20 pounds. If I lose more great.

Good luck!

Great thread SK.....

Few years back I had some blood pressure issues. A trip to the Doc found that my cholesterol was high. She gave me the speech. I listened, I eat much healthier...no processed meat, easy on the fried food...more fruits and good things. Lots of water and the dreaded Banana every day. Feel like a new person.

Go to the doctor and get a check up every year....it may save your life....

We have come to use shortcuts to do tasks in our lives. I try to go back to the old ways....a rake instead of a leaf blower, I use my push mower instead of my tractor....etc. I think we need to put dials back on TV's....

Goal- pick up kickboxing again, shoot for 20 pound loss by April 1st. I'll reevaluate my goals then.

Tasty Turkey Sloppy Joeshttp://www.bhg.com/recipe/porter-and...r-sloppy-joes/

I switch out beef for turkey in this recipe and serve it on 80 calorie buns. For toppings- fresh bell peppers or pickles. For sides- salad or fresh veggies with a small amount of dipping sauce. Baked chips work too but the sodium is high...

Last year my girlfriend and I joined a beer league softball team with some friends of ours and with some other people that they knew and it was a lot of fun as well as an excuse to get out of the house a couple of times a week.

My gf always struggles when it comes to exercising regularly because she hates going to the gym but she loved playing softball (which she had never done before). And because it was just a recreational league no one took it very seriously which was perfect for our team of amateurs haha.

Something similar might be a good stepping stone for anyone else who also hates going to the gym but wants to exercise more.

Once I'm cleared, I want to get back to training hard with my trainer. I'd love to lose 5 % body fat. Until I'm cleared, I will do walking for cardio at least 3 days a week. I also want to cut slider foods out of my diet.

So if you give up one unhealthy food this year, what would it be?

Mine will be pizza. (At least for the next 12 weeks.)

My goal is 25 more pounds by the end of May. I think this is doable. Planning on joining a Weight Challenge at work this week... maybe I'll lose AND make some money.

I've been using myfitnesspal.com for tracking every single bite I put in my mouth. Very interesting how much we take a bite here and there and don't realize it.. this has helped me a lot.

Good luck everyone!

Nice incentive. And tracking food is incredibly eye opening. Good luck! Knock the goal out of the park.

No need to cut it out, just make a better version.

I make mine on pita bread with some olive oil, tomato sauce with seasons, light on the mozzarella and then lots of veggies, sometimes turkey pepperoni.

I find if I make healthier versions of my faves, I won't binge or feel deprived.

For me it is cheeseburgers with hot salty fries. I don't mean Micky Ds..blah...I mean like a top notch burger. If I want a cheeseburger now, I make a veggie one with no bun and I have a small baked potato with some ketchup.

I also have a bag of Dove dark chocolate in a pretty candy dish and I allot calories to be able to have a couple a day (40 calories a pop). Sometimes a girl just has to have chocolate but you can still be good somewhat while doing so.

Best of luck everyone.

ha, yes it is!

When I was running and strength training...I was packing in a couple thousand calories a day and did not know it! I was not gaining any weight but still. eek!

I would also suggest finding one that not only keeps track of calories but also of your fat, carbs, protein, sodium, etc. Water intake too.
