I suggest that if you move that to 19 and mother had to drop out of college, then start the daughter at college as a virgin; you will avoid a lot of problems getting this posted. What authors do on this site is write the story exactly as they want it and then add 4 or 5 years to every mention of age, and change "school" to "college" throughout.

There are even some stories posted like that here and with the right age on other sites!

I can tell you if you switch on your Private Messages. Go to User CP (top left of this page) then click on Edit Options (in the left hand column) and then tick Enable Private Messaging in the second box down. Rephrase that to it should raise alarm bells here. At least technically.

Now in reality it could fly because the author is not describing the mother having sex at fourteen just that she had a kid at fourteen. It's like saying yeah back when I was 16 I owned a mustang. There is no under age sex there.

Why not write it yourself? I gotta tell you, that's the only way you'll get the idea written with great justice.

I think your idea is interesting. I've written primarily for high-school characters (which is why the vast body of my work isn't published here) and I think I could do a decent job with these characters. I'd ditch the Latina angle, because I don't think it's necessary to get the point across and have never gotten the whole "exotic foreigner" thing to begin with. (Of course, I myself am a minority, which might explain that.) I would play up the back-and-forth as she wars between her socialized, moralistic, reputation-minded side and her selfish, impulsive, pleasure-seeking side (the "virgin-whore dichotomy," as it's sometimes called). She would not do a whole lot of sexually-adventurous things, because that's not how I roll. I would focus more attention on her relationship with her mother--her mother's pride in her upstanding daughter; her disappointment and confusion at her recent choices; her mother's fear that her daughter would make the same mistakes her mother did (like the ones that led to her becoming a teenage single mother). And there'd probably be a love story in there somewhere, because I tend to write those.

Does this sound like an interesting story? My professional pride leads me to hope that it does. ;) But does it sound like your story? No, it probably doesn't. And, well, that's kind of the thing. No one can write your story. No one but you. Nobody knows what your kinks are, what fears you want to express, what themes you want to hit. People talk about how this or that is "my life's story", but I think that's a gross simplification; every story they write is their life's story--is a product of the life they have lived. It might not be about them, but it is of them.

The thing about writing is that it's not like being a short-order cook or even a tailor, whipping up things to specification and not adding any personal touches. A story is projected through the writer--their heart, their soul, their personality--and the end product is inevitably colored by that fact. I wanted to do an experiment a few years ago where I provided the basic plot, but I and a bunch of others got to each write our own version of the story, including its ending. I guarantee you that no two stories would have had more than the grossest, most basic similarities--because the story would have had different authors, and each author would put their stamp on their version of the story.

They say, "If you want something done right, you've gotta do it yourself." In many other fields, this is a recommendation... But in writing and the other fields of self-expression, it's a law of nature, as immutable as gravity. If you want it done right, you must do it because nobody else can do it right. No one else can write it the way you would.

So why not write it yourself? :)

The problem with me is that I need help getting started. I would love to write it and see how my writing fares out. But I need help.

I like the idea of playing up with the mother-daughter relationship because in my mind, how her mother had was also crucial. In my head, she's all tied up with her father who started out good when the Latina was younger but she basically remembers him as a no-show who pops up occasionally with promises that he'll do better and her mother takes him back into the house and in their bed. But the father is stepping out on her mother with other women. When the mother and father were younger, they were extremely sexually active and the father monogamous to her wife.
