Dick sat perched atop the roof of the old firehouse he had purchased, watching for the arrival of the heroes he had invited to his meeting. It was a cool, clear night, with a light breeze that slightly ruffled his hair. His suit and trenchcoat helped keep him warm as he looked on through a pair of digital binoculars.

"There's someone..." he mumbled to himself as he saw a blue light coming toward him. He soon realized it was Blue Beetle soaring above the city, before he glided down and landed next to Nightwing.

"Sup?" Jaime greeted simply as he stood next to Nightwing.

"Thanks for coming," responded Nightwing, though after that he became very quiet, just watching the surrounding streets. Jaime gave up trying to start a conversation and went inside the firehouse to wait for the others.

Life. What an interesting thing. A world filled with ifs.
What if I hadn't jumped into the portal? What if I hadn't pressed the on button?
It doesn't matter, I am who i am now, a half ghost, and a ghost fighter. It isn't the best job in the world, but I took it head on.

Walking down the street, I notice A small dog has been following me.
"Get outta here mutt!" I kicked the dog and sent it flying.
The fireplace is where we meet up. It's where I have no worries or troubles. It's all great.
Walking down the familiar road, I see Dick standing on the roof. I decide I Don't feel like walking, so I go ghost, no longer using the familiar phrase I used to.

"Hey Dick, what's been up Jaime?"

The sounds of the city in the evening seem so muted when not among the areas where locals congregate or tourists are called to be entertained, but even the smallest ones reverberate within the hunter's ear of an owl. The bird casually shifted its seemingly fluid head about as it rested in the eaves of a slightly taller building than the firehouse it had been training its eyes on for a while.

The crunch of someone's footfall being interrupted was followed by the short, sharp yelp of a canine expressing displeasure. The owl's emerald gaze narrowed towards the source, but saw nothing but a dog skittering back away from what or whomever had annoyed it. <Hope that's not a bad omen> the bird thought before moving out of the heavy shadows to spread its jade-coloured wings and step silently off of the ledge and drop slightly before rising up and soaring towards the meeting place.

<Can's believe I'm doing this again. What with what happened...is happening>

As it neared the building, he was pretty sure what might have looked like just another gargoyle or bit of statuary on the rooftop was the reason for the meeting. Rather than landing directly, he let his flightpath take him around the chimney and then collapsed into a three-inch-long gecko and scuttled along the brickwork to where he could see the figure.

Or figures, as it were.

Someone else was there. <Introductions are always good, right?> The lizard leaped from the side of the chimney and became a short, wiry, raggedy-haired young man with skin slightly brighter than Gumby. His face broke into a smile that seemed to occupy a full third of its surface and he gave the pair a small nod of his head.

"Hiya," Gar said. "So, this is the place, eh? Any girls here, yet?"

Wulfen/Eliza

Eliza frowned as she heard a dog yelp in pain, she turned slightly, seeing the stray skitter off into the darkness. The guy who'd done it continued walking for a few moments before suddenly turning insubstatial and flying up to the roof of the firehouse she'd been watching for the last hour. She rolled her eyes, typical, there had to be a douche in the group didn't there.

He joined Dick there, and it wasn't long before the two were joined by a third guy who almost appeared from thin air, in fact morphing from a ghekko, a neat little trick. What was unexpected though was that he was green. Quite a distinguishing feature, certainly more so than her own physical appearance. The two newcomers hadn't noticed her, neither had Blue Beetle before he went inside, someone she already knew of, but hadn't really met. The only one she knew was Dick, and she had no doubt he had known she was here since she arrived.

She decided she may as well make herself known and she stepped out of the shadows that concealed her, dropping down to the roof of the firehouse. She landed almost soundlessly in a crouch, one leg curled up beneath her and the other stretched gracefully out to one side. Then, standing up, she stalked towards the three at the edge of the roof, hearing the newest arrival speak. "Hiya, so, this is the place, eh? Any girls here, yet?"

She smiled as she replied, "there are now."

Dick growled under his breath as he saw Danny kick the dog. He felt his face grow hot and questioned whether this kid could really be called a hero. He was going to make it clear that as long as Danny worked with this group, he was going to be more respectful. By the time he joined Dick on the roof, Dick had agreed with himself not to lose his temper, but then the douche pushed the envelope further.

"Hey Dick," he said, before turning as Blue Beetle headed inside through the roof access stairs. "What's been up, Jaime?"

Jaime rolled his eyes and laughed to himself. Danny was gonna get it now. He thought about sticking around, but decided against it and continued inside. Sure enough, Dick's face grew red again as he stared at the cocky little douche.

"What the fuck is your problem?" Dick said in a growling whisper, getting in Danny's face. "You know better than to use our real names while we are in costume! Not every hero coming knows everyone else's secret identity yet! What if there are villains scoping out the area, trying to spy on the meeting? You call yourself a hero, and yet you're walking around kicking helpless animals and blabbing out secret identities?" Dick just stared at the little prick.

(and for the record, this is the first time they are all coming to the firehouse, so it can't be familiar to him, lol. Not everyone knows everyone else yet, this is their first meeting together.)

"Seriously? Midnight?" Ben yawned parking the green with black stripes Camero several blocks away before walking. He'd never really had a secret identity so the idea of protecting one was more a matter of respect for him. He was actually quite certain that being universe renown had kept him from several trouncings over the years since plenty of people didn't want to fight THE Ben 10.

That didn't make it any better that Nightwing had decided to hold this on the roof (weren't they trying to hide and wouldn't that be easier perhaps indoors and not on the roof where Google-Fucking-Maps could spot them?) the real problem was having to walk up several flights of stairs though since again Ben wasn't as much annoyed about being seen in public as he was having to climb the stairs.

"Sorry I'm late." Ben paused slightly glancing around. He really was a bit later than he'd intended. "For anybody who doesn't know who I am I'm Ben 10 and yeah I can do that."

A quick glance was given to the other heroes gathered. He knew who Beast Boy was. A changling who if what little research Ben had done was actually quite a bit more lethal than he ever practiced.

Nightwing. Batman sans some of the seriousness. Probably someone worth asking to help on hacking the Omnitrix.

Ghostboy. . .wasn't he one of the villians? Oh well. Considering some of the press Ben got he knew enough to let someone prove themselves before taking the media's word for anything.

And girl. Attractive girl. Very attractive girl. She hadn't gotten the super hero code book that clearly stated she should be almost naked but somehow that didn't detract from anything.

Ben simply found himself an empty stretch of wall and sat down assuming Nightwing would explain himself soon enough.

Wulfen/Eliza

Eliza smiled as Ben joined, them, purposefully ignoring the tense atmosphere behind her. "Can do what?" She asked innocently, god the hormones were rolling in waves from him. It wasn't his fault, there wasn't anything he could do about it, but her enhanced sense of smell made guys about as subtle as a brick when it came to attraction. She turned, gesturing to the green guy and Ben, motioning that they should follow inside. "Come on guys, lets get inside, Beetle's already there and we can leave these two to sort their differences."

She turned without waiting for a response and went in through the door Jaime had already disappeared through. That ghost guy was a twat but she wasn't going to get involved, hopefully a bollocking off Dick would mature him a bit, she knew it wasn't something she'd relish. Inside the firehouse it was still a bit run down, but then she supposed Dick would be planning on renovating it a bit. At the minute.. it was livable, but showing it's age, damp ran along the wall and the door to the next room was sagging on it's hinges.

She smiled at Jaime as she entered the 'meeting room', so called cause it was the only room in the building with a table. A rather run down table at that. She turned as the others came inside, smiling at them, "Wulfen", she said, by way of introduction. She'd rather wait till Dick and the rest came down before elaborating, she doubted the room was anymore secure than the roof, and she wouldn't trust it until she was told otherwise.

After being told off by Dick, and looked at strangely by everyone, he figured he better clear up something.
"That dog... Im sorry, I'm not well today."
That was the best way to put it. Of course he wasn't well, after being kicked out from his parents house, he's never been well. The dog didn't actually feel any pain, it surprised it more than anything.
"So how have you guys been?"
Taking a spot next to Dick he noticed the attractive woman. He wasn't sure if he should say anything, considering she looked the most affected by the dog. So he doesn't, he just waits for the next hero to arrive.

Dog? Ben started to ask what dog and then realized something before the words left his mouth. He didn't actually care. Clearly nobody was dead, dying or in danger since all the heroes were still here and that was enough so instead he responded to the question from the pretty lady.

"I can do just about anything. Anything my occasionally moody watch lets me do anyway." After that he was simply following her inside, well more accurately watching the way her hips swayed when she walked and letting that be a bit of a beacon to get him back inside before findind a new chair, intentionally choosing one where she wasn't in his direct line of sight in an attempt to keep from staring.

It was nearly like pitch, the darkness around her was so black and so complete. There was no visible moon, leaving everything like a heavy blanket of suffocating velvet that those who considered themselves to be vulnerable might feel an urge to run away from.

However, the night did not bother Terra. Quite the opposite; it was her natural habitat, all of her senses equipped to work best within its folds. In spite of all of that, something blew with alien chill down the back of her neck as this new presence crept within range of her perception. She had been called to this part of the city for a reason... and she was procrastinating.

Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, she concentrated. Seconds later the ground beneath her feet began to shift and crack. She opened her eyes and lifted her hands, causing a piece of the earth to rise up into the air, with her still standing atop of it. "My favorite type of transportation," she chuckled. Turning her head, the earth carried her higher into the sky and towards the direction that she desired.

It didn't take long for the old firehouse towards the outskirts of the city to come into view and she revealed in the sight. All of the lights except for two of them seemed to be off and found herself wondering what the building was like in its prime. She hovered above the roof of the firehouse and slowly landed, the earth she had been using falling lifeless at her feet. Pulling her light leather jacket closer to her body, she pushed aside the loose strands of her that were hanging in her face and opened the old door, stepping inside.

Jasper looked once more at the Address he had written down, and back up at the old building in front of him. A part of him new that he should find it dark and forbidding, but after all the time in Arkham, he could honestly say it looked nice.

The thought made him chuckle.

He saw a girl land on the roof and paused, What am I doing here? I have no powers? Just a stupid hat and the name of a former villian.

That thought made him laugh.

What if they think I'm a villain?

His mind paused as an unbidden question popped into his head.

What if they attack me? What if I want to attack them?

Silence.

Why is a raven like a writing desk?

His internal tension dissapaited, and his mind made up, he wandered over, clambered up an old drainpipe, and reached the roof.

Straightening his coat and jacket he opened the door and entered.

Carl

A man stepped out of the shadows in the street below the firehouse. He hadn't merely been standing there, one minute there had been only a pool of darkness. The next moment a tall figure in clothed and cloaked in black was there. His mask is metallic, covering his eyes, cheekbones and nose. It is made of some sort of black metal, but instead of reflecting, it drinks in the light. The corners are spiked and curve back at the top, almost like horns.

He glanced up and down the street, before looking up. Perched on the roof was a shadowy figure, Nightwing. Knowing this was the place Carl crossed the street, glanced around a second time, before opening the door and entering the firehouse. He climbed the stairs two at a time, anticipation getting the better of him, although he had to admit the place was not quite what he had been expecting when Nightwing had invited him to join the Titans. It was, well, to say the least it was falling apart, the first floor displayed signs of technology and was renovated, obviously by Nightwing. After that it gave way to cracked plaster and crumbling steps, but they had to start somewhere.

He pushed open the door, and six heroes turned to look at the latest arrival. Carl suddenly felt his lips dry and he swallowed. There were a few he recognised, Blue Beetle the most significant. Licking his lips he spoke hesitantly, "hi, errr, I'm C... I mean... The Shadow." He swore inwardly, I must look like a total dick to them, just a newbie, a freshman eager to prove myself...

Wulfen/Eliza

Eliza smiled at the two newcomers. One was tall with a top hat that seemed to add nearly a foot to his height. Before she could say anything the other door opened too and another hero entered the room. He appeared far more intimidated than the other had, obviously unused to suddenly being the centre of attention. She almost laughed at the look on his face, and his stuttering introduction must have made him felt like such a twat.

She smiled welcomingly at him and the hatted fellow. "Hi guys, I'm Wulfen." It couldn't hurt for the lot of them to get introduced before Nightwing came down, he didn't seem in the mood for any light conversation before the briefing. She looked around the room, examining each in turn, "so how did you guys end up here?"

"Hi, I'm Blue Beetle," Jaime introduced himself as the other heroes arrived. He smiled and winked at Wulfen, and then looked up as Shadow walked in. "Dude! I didn't know Nightwing invited you too! Sweet!" They bumped knuckles. Jaime turned to the others. "This guy might look like something out of a horror movie, but he's saved my ass at least twice. He's cool."

Meanwhile, Nightwing glanced around one more time on the roof, still peeved about Danny, but he sighed and let it go. Turning and heading inside, he made his way to the meeting room, making eye contact with each person and nodding. He leaned forward, putting his hands on the table. "I want to thank everyone for coming. Some of you know each other, some are meeting for the first time. I have had the chance to work with each of you, some just recently, and others a ways back. Blue Beetle and I crossed paths in Gotham back in July, when I was still going by Robin."

"Even then, he was the epitome of seriousness," added Jaime. He smirked. "Like mentor like sidekick. All work and no play."

"Beetle..." warned Dick, but Jaime just rolled his eyes and scoffed. Dick went on. "As I was saying, we all have varying degrees of familiarity with each other, but as of tonight, we are part of the same team, should you choose to join. This firehouse you see may be rundown and crippled, but that's because I just bought it, with the help of a few sponsors who will remain anonymous. I have some equipment and systems set up downstairs for now, while the sponsors are assembling a crew to come and completely renovate the place to serve as our new headquarters."

"Why are these sponsors willing to do all this for us?" asked Jaime. "What do they have to gain?"

"Good question," replied Dick. "My best guess is that they are somehow involved with one or more major banks in the city -- you've heard of the string of robberies recently? My recon has led me to a mysterious man by the name of Slade, and it just so happens the sponsors wanted to fund a team to stop Slade's team. If I am right, then they have a lot to gain if we stop these bank robbers."

"So, what else have you found out?" asked Jaime. Dick motioned everyone to follow him and led them downstairs. He brought up five images on a computer screen.

"This is Slade," Dick said, pointing to a man in an orange and black mask with only one eye. "And this is his partner, Dr. Arthur Light. They hired three mercenaries, Mammoth, Jinx, and Gizmo." As Dick pointed each villain out on the screen, he also motioned to the text next to each picture that detailed profile information and special abilities. "These five are robbing banks to fund some sort of illegal science experiment, but their hideout is well protected. I can't do it on my own."

"So, we all hold hands and become a team?" asked Jaime with a smirk. "What happens after this assignment?"

"The sponsors want us to remain a team," explained Dick. "We are stronger that way. So, who's all in?"

Carl

Carl smiled back at Jaime, some confidence returning, looking around at the others as he returned the gesture. "Yeah, and you musta saved me another half dozen times on top of that." The exchange with Jaime had relaxed him, he took the opportunity to look around, examining the rooms occupants with more attention. They were a pretty varied bunch, a gaunt kid in a long coat and over sized top hat. Another with bright green skin. One of them looked pretty average, but just as confident in this situation as the others, the chunky, technological looking watch on his wrist was the only thing that caught his eye, it just looked... out of place. The girls stood, confident and poised, making him feel even more awkward. Both were, undeniably, very attractive. He felt his skin flush and was relieved when the door opened and Nightwing, Dick, walked in, followed by another hero but before Carl could examine him Dick was already speaking.

After the usual banter, mostly from Jaime, Dick got down to the real information, the nitty gritty.

Jaime asked a question, "Why are these sponsors willing to do all this for us? What do they have to gain?" Carl agreed, these people were planning to spend a lot of money on a bunch of kids who wanted to fight crime. Why would they want to do that, what benefits could they get.

They went downstairs, further into the firehouse, Dick brought up images of the criminals on a large wall screen. He pointed them out one at a time, but the image that held Carl's attention was the guy called Slade. That one eye burned out of the mask and the man's image seemed to project an aura of menace, picture or not. "So, who's all in?"

Carl looked at Jaime, around the room again. "What the hell, I got nothing better to do. I'm in."

"I'm not normally one to bite the hand that feeds me but if I've learned nothing from Azimuth it's that mysterious benefactors are never a good thing. I'm in. Nothing I've seen makes me think that this is a bad thing but we should probably figure out who's funding this."

Ben glanced around at the people who were now, mostly he assumed, going to be his team mates. He was familar by reputation most of them but not others. Still there was no point in questioning any of them. Nightwing had worked with the Batman and if that didn't make him perfect it made him the next best thing. If he thought this was safe it was safe.

"So what are we gonna call ourselves? I'm kinda feeling Ben's Heroes."

Inwardly, Gar smiled slightly at the vibe coming off the first girl to arrive. On the outside, of course, his smile had broadened and threatened to overwhelm the rest of his face. When she began to lead people inside for the meeting, he fell into step as a bright green Labrador. His nails tapped softly as he padded behind.

Gar arrived just as the girl told them all her codename.

<Wulfen, hm? Sounds intriguing.>

"I'm Gar. I've been trying to go by Changeling, since I got that cease-and-desist letter, but the media still tends to call me Beast Boy." He shrugged and flashed a smile that was more real and warm then big and goofy, and then moved to have a seat.

He listened to Nightwing's spiel and nodded now and then. When the detective was finished, Gar mulled over the final question and wondered if he was ready to try the whole team thing again, after what had happened with the Doom Patrol. When The Shadow and The Kid-with-the-Funky-Watch said they were in, Gar cracked a smile.

<Yeah, this could be fun. And the girls are nice to look at, too. Win-win. Booyah!>

"Sure, I can do it too. Will have to work around my class schedule, but that's an easy fix," Gar said.

Jasper stood in silence as the banter flew. He had almost hoped that he would recognize some of the heroes, but he didn't, and he put that into the fact he'd been in arkham for the past 5 years - it was obvious he'd be out of touch with what was going on.

And heck, right now, just been in the same room as these girls was scaring him stupid. What if they had Cooties like Mary-Beth back at the circus had had all those years ago.

Nightwing finally entered, or at least Jasper made the assumption that it was, and he soon gathered that he was right in that regard.

As the situation was explained and they had moved downstairs and looked at the computer screen, he had intently read everything on the screens about these villains.

These scum...

As Nightwing finished his spiel, and others began to agree, Jasper realised that he should probably speak.

'Hmm.' He said, his voice surprisingly soft and quiet yet loud at the same time, 'You can count me in, if you want me, though i'm not entirely sure what use I will be.'

Wulfen/Eliza

Eliza laughed, "I'm sure we can find you a job."

She smiled, speaking more kindly now. He looked kinda terrified and even if she couldn't see it, the fear was strong in the air. "I doubt you would be here if you wouldn't contribute anything."

She turned back to Nightwing, "you knew what my answer would be when you invited me, I'm in."

"It might not be a bad idea if people started giving proper introduction. Aside from Beast Boy here and Nightwing I don't really know much about any of you and even though I'm world famous I don't know how much any of you have studied me. I'll admit this team work thing isn't usually my style but I've worked with enough people to know that in the middle of a battle isn't the best time to find out that someone is alergic to green rocks, terrified of fire or can't fly."

Ben held out the arm with the Omnitrix connect to it. The large alien watch with a green dial in center. With his other hand he spun the dial slowly displaying the holographic forms of several different aliens. "With the Omnitrix I can turn into any of the aliens here. Technically there are a lot more of them, something north of one million since it has samples of all sentient life in the Milkyway Galaxy and a few from outside it, the creator however is a bit of a jerk and won't give me the master control function. As stupid as it sounds yes I have tried to hack it before and yes it wen't about as well as you'd expect a thirteen year old trying to hack a hyper advance alien device." Ben forced a half smile at those memories. "It has a timer function, when it runs out it takes a little while for it to recharge for another transformation. It usually isn't a problem but if you see a very human me running from something it's safe to assume I need a bit of help. It's just shy of impossible to remove so that's not an issue and while I don't have any weaknesses and the Omnitrix is difficult to hack I would get any weakness that any alien gets. So if . . .when. . I figure out the master control for this thing I could go say Kryptonian. It's a complete package though so green rocks suddenly a problem."

Ben sat back down wondering for a moment if he should tell them anything about his various enemies and then decided that conversation could wait until later. It wasn't like any of his enemies were the sort of people who went unnoticed for very long and he probably didn't need to explain that a twelve foot tall alien that looks like Cthulu is something you bash first and then don't ask questions.

Nightwing looked around as everyone introduced themselves. In regards to Ben's question, he replied, "I don't think we'll be going by Ben's Heroes. What are everyone else's thoughts?" Then, when he heard Hatter doubt himself and Wulfen's reassurements, Dick looked up at him. "She's right, Hatter. Everyone has their worth, their value to the team.

Once everyone agreed on Teen Titans for the team name, they began discussing strategies for approaching Slade's hideout. "Here's what I'm thinking," explained Nightwing. "We have Beast Boy -- I mean Changeling, sorry -- become the smallest flying bug he is capable of being while still being able to observe a situation, fly into their base through a vent or under a door, and scout out the inside. Does that sound good to you, Gar?"

Nightwing then turned to Danny. "You could go ghost and help scout it out as well, and then bring us back detailed information on the inner workings of their base. I can also provide you two with tiny cameras and microphones to plant inside vents and under tables. They will send audio and video wirelessly to the computers here at the firehouse, which in turn are connected to the computer in my bike. The rest of us will be in the immediate area, and should things get nasty in there, Gar can become a rhino and create an entrance for us from the inside, or Ben can make one from the outside."

"So, why don't we just use his rhino form from the get go, go smash in there, and take them down?" asked Jaime.

"Because, Beetle," explained Dick. "If at all possible, we have to find out what they are doing first. When they see us coming, they will do everything in their power to hide whatever illegal experiment they are working on. I want to get some good audio and video of exactly what they are doing, how they are doing it, and who all is involved. Plus it will help us justify attacking them and the courts can use it as evidence. Of course, their defense lawyers will cry objection, but it might be enough to force them into a plea bargain that includes some jail time."

Nightwing leaned back in his computer chair and looked at everyone for a moment. "So, is that plan alright with everyone?"

Gar/Changeling

<Ugh> thought Gar as Nightwing ran through his plan for having the team recon the man Slade and his lackeys. <Fly vision tends to give me such a headache.> He nodded and gave the team's leader a thumbs up. "I'm not so sure I can report all that much in detail from what I see as an insect, but I can go bug to get inside and then hide and become a mouse or shrew or something."

He paused to consider something.

"Danny will have to have any recording equipment, unless you have gotten some spytech that will change with me the way my uniform does."

Terra

'I must've stepped in a damn circus' was the thought that kept flashing in Terra's mind. She felt so out of place in this room full of unique people. Curiosity at just what sort of powers that had was eating her alive. She looked at one, then another and continued until she'd had a good observant look at all of the room's occupants.

She stayed towards the back of the room, leaning up against the wall while Nightwing continued his explanation. Various questions kept begging to be asked, but she kept silent and just listened as the others gave their various answers and opinions. Once the targets had been introduced and the battle plan idea laid out, Terra felt a warm hum of excitement in her body. She chuckled and pushed herself off of the wall with very little effort and walked a bit closer to Nightwing's side.

"Weeeeeell," she drawled out playfully with a slight smile on her face, "you know how busy my schedule is these days, but I'm sure I can make some time. This just sounds like too much fun for me to pass it up!" She then rewarded him with one of her very rare smiles.

Wulfen/Eliza

She nodded, "sounds good to me, can't give them a chance to find out about us, hit them hard and fast." She didn't want any of Slade's team getting away, anyway, her supply of wolfsbane wouldn't last for ever, she would have to have words with Dr Light.

As to the actual plan, it did sound good, but it had to work first time, the base was heavily defended and if they didn't succeed the first time then Slade and his group would disappear, with their resources it wouldn't be hard for them to acquire a new lair at short notice.

"I'm faster and stronger than most humans, and my senses are far keener, that's all there is to it really." Eliza certainly wasn't going to go into finer detail, her lycan form had not entirely evaded the media before she had been approached by Dick, and she didn't want to make enemies before she'd even started.
