OOC -- The Town With No Name

Introduction

A good place to start is by reading the First Post. It describes how the town ended up in the situation it is in now.

This is basically a story about a small, rural town in the Coastal Range on the Oregon-California border that is, essentially, forgotten by the rest of the world when a State Bypass shifts traffic away from it. The town dies, figuratively; businesses shutter their doors, people with talent and skills move away, even the Post Office shuts down and the town's Zip Code is eliminated.

Combine this with the powerful and overbearing presence of "The Mayor" a man whose family established the community over a hundred and fifty years ago, building it up over the generations only to see it die because people want to get from Point A to Point B faster...? Really?

To compensate for the lost of revenue, the Mayor and many of those remaining in the town begin taking outsiders hostage, turning them essentially into "slaves". They labor on farms, in the forests, in laundries and kitchens ... and in bedrooms as well.

Ten years later, after the "enslavement" has become an established fact in the town, Peter Hammond -- photojournalist with Life Magazine -- drives into town, looking for a good story about Rural America. He finds one, but unfortunately the Mayor has other plans for Mister Hammond; Pete himself becomes a captor and is put to work documenting the "good work" that the people and "slaves" are doing to keep the town alive.

The Town With No Name

Why Does It Not Have A Name? Two Reasons:
First, the locals feel as though the world has forgotten them. With the completion of the bypass ten years earlier and the slow death of the town, the world has left the community behind, figuratively in some ways, literally in others. With the disappearance of the community's names from maps, tourist destination lists, and more -- even losing its Zip Code when the US Post Office closed -- the residents who remained simply stopped using their town's name.

And second, once the kidnapping and enslavement of outsiders began, it was determined that should anyone ever escape their bondage, it would be harder for the escapee -- who might be suffering from months or years of brainwashing and other mental games -- to, first, reach civilization and then lead the Authorities back to the town with no name.

Location: Deep in the coastal mountains near the Oregon/California border.

Geography:
To the north is a river, beyond which are low lying woods and wetlands, beyond which are quickly rising coastal mountains. During the spring rains, the river swells to levels too dangerous to either navigate down or use the hand-drawn ferry to cross; and during the summer drought season, it shrinks such that in many places a person can wade across without getting their shirt wet. The river snakes through the countryside, flowing from the east to the west (and eventually to the Pacific Ocean). The town sits in a northern bulge of the river.

To the south are more steep and deep coastal mountains. Most were heavily logged during the late 1800s and early 1900s and are now reforested with second growth timber.

From the air, the century -- and sometimes centuries -- old Douglas firs, elms, oaks, and maples that are everywhere about the town sufficiently camouflage the buildings to the effect of making it look less like a town and more like a handful of scattered homes and out-buildings.

On both sides of the river -- in the westside swamps and foot hills and in the east side mountains -- there are privately owned cabins, farms, and ranches, as well as abandoned logging mills and mostly-defunct gold mines.

Businesses:
"Mrs. Wilkerson's Boarding House" -- A former Bed and Breakfast, now home to some of the "slaves" including Lina and Pete.

"Pie in the Sky" -- Pie and dessert shop; where "outsiders" are often kidnapped. (Introduced here.)

Some Notes About Characters
And
The List of Characters

ABOUT POSTING PROFILES

Typically, writers submit their Character Profiles to an OOC thread and the Host creates a character list or cast list, then links those profiles to it, for the perusal of all.

I don't do it that way.

I prefer to have control over how Profiles are organized -- I like them very consistent with one another -- and I also like to ensure that new writers joining late can find links to the posts that are important to understanding the characters already established in a Group Thread.

Therefore, I will maintain the profiles and character list, including insertion of links to significant posts. Writers are asked -- begged actually -- to PM me if they see anything missing from their character(s) profiles or anything grossly inaccurate.

But please ... do not post anything in the OOC and do not post profiles here either.

HOW PROFILES ARE ORGANIZED

Characters are divided first into 2 categories, "Player Characters" (PCs) and "Non-Player Characters" (NPCs).
1. The difference between PCs and NPCs is more of a gray area than a black line.

2. Generally speaking, PCs are frequently occurring. They are central to the plot and, without regular replies to the thread(s), will cause the story to lag, possibly die. They also have detailed profiles which, more often than not, will include links to important replies that define them and inform new and existing players of who they are and what they are about.

3. NPCs, on the other hand, don't. I don't know a better way to say it. They appear less often, have basic profiles, and could disappear and writers might not even notice it.

Second, PCs and NPCs are divided into "Locals", "Servants", and "Others". While the differences in the first category are a gray area, those in the second are not:
1. "Locals" are ... well, locals! They are residents from and around the town at the center of our story.

2. "Servants" are people who are being held against their will. Some have ventured into the town as tourists or lost souls; while others have been taken hostage elsewhere and brought to the town.

3. And "Others" are ... others! Pretty simple. Anyone who isn't a "Local" or a "Servant" is an "Other".

Calendar:

Leading up to our Role Play

10 YEARS AGO:
The State Completes a highway bypass that immediately diverts all "thru traffic" between the Coast and the Inland Valley away from the Town; and, over time, eventually diverts all but the most laid back and unhurried of vacationers away as well.

Within three months, almost all tourist-dependent businesses are closed; and within a year, all tourist-enhanced business are as well.

With the departure of businesses and the loss of tourist dollars, the town's tax base shrinks; the school closes and students are bussed to distant schools (an Elementary to the west and a High School to the East); the Post Office closes, leading eventually to the dissolution of the Town's Zip Code; and all municipality functions -- including police, fire, and services such as electricity and sewer -- are transferred to the County or State.

7 YEARS AGO:
The Mayor of the Town, responding to a building "criminal element", takes his first Indentured Servants, "The First Five"; the 2 men are sentences to hard labor and 3 women become prostitutes. (Of the 5, only one of the women is still alive; she serves the Mayor's disabled son, as a house servant, farm slave, and sexual servant.)

When the Mayor -- a wealthy man descended from the original settlers of the region -- begins to receive unwanted attention and scrutiny from the Sheriff's department and County Commission, he convinces the City Council to dissolve the City Charter and cancel contracts with the County and State for police, fire, and maintenance. He himself puts up millions to begin a slow transfer of services that had been transferred to the County and State back to the Town.

Officially ... the Town is dead.

5 YEARS AGO:
With most of the Town's population now gone, taking "Indentured Servants" begins to become a standard practice among those still living in the Town, led by a group of residents known as "The Council" (only some of who were original City Council members.)

The long time residents of the town -- who believe the world has passed them by and owes them -- use Indentured Servants for labor, ransom, sex, and more.

A concerted effort to keep the Town off the grid begins:
-- The Elders, supported by the Mayor's wealth, form small companies that purchase control over such things as the electrical grid and land line phone services. Outside contractors no longer come to the Town to perform maintenance or collect payment for services.

-- Accesses to the Town is limited:
The bridge over the river which brought traffic in from the north is destroyed -- the blame is put on a flash flood, which, of course, never occurred. Eventually, the road north of the now-absent bridge is abandoned and closed by the County; traffic from the north can't safely get within 12 miles of the town, and what traffic does use the road -- mostly seasonal hunters or roughing it type campers -- are always under the eye of ever watchful Town loyalists, usually referred to as Townies.

The road from the east (which accesses the Interiors of the States of Oregon and California) is allowed to fall apart and becomes so rough that only 4WD trucks can travel it. With no signage about destinations ahead or tourist amenities, few people travel it ... and, again, any who do are always under the scrutiny of Townies.

The gravel logging road that came in from the south (past the home of Warner White) can only be used on foot or motorcycle/ATV. It is generally used only by hikers and seasonal hunters.

Which leaves only the road from the west (from the direction of the coast, near the Oregon/California state line), and even that road is rough and poorly marked. Signs that read "No Gas For 80 Miles" and "No Services Ahead", etc., dissuade most travelers from venturing down the road. And those that do ... usually wish they hadn't later.

TODAY:
By the time our Role Play starts, the once proud Town has seen its combined In Town and Countryside population drop from over 2,000 to less than 200 -- and half of those are Indentured Servants!

The World Outside barely knows there was ever a Town. No one comes here intentionally; if someone arrives, they're either wandering or lost.

(Coming, with pic)

LOCAL, SERVANT, or OTHER:
Servant

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
Pete was a Life magazine photojournalist, traveling across the Western United States on a working vacation; he was photographing small towns for an article about the plight of rural America in this day and age of globalization and the domination of technology in everyday life.

He happened into the Town ... and wasn't allowed to leave.

The Mayor took an instant liking to Pete, gave him a tour of the tour, set him up with a gratis room in the Wilkerson Boarding House for as long as he wanted to stay.

But Pete began to get an uneasy feeling. He was escorted every where he went by at least one man; many of the residents were unwilling to talk to him without first gaining permission from either the Mayor or Pete's escort; and -- the most disturbing -- he began to suspect that some of the laborers in town were not here willingly.

Then, after pie and coffee in "Pie in the Sky" one afternoon, he woke up in chains to learn that he was now the Mayor's Indentured Servant. The Mayor wanted Pete to document the Town and everything occurring within it, "For posterity", he was told.

When Pete declined, the Mayor had him taken out to the woods to witness the execution of an Indentured Servant he had met and talked to the previous day. Pete was told that there were hundreds of Servants -- a bit of an exaggeration, but he didn't know that -- all across the community, and that if he didn't do this for the Mayor, one would be killed every day, right here on this spot.

Pete didn't believe the Mayor would be so cold blooded. He agreed to the man's terms, then tried to escape that night. The following day, he was taken to the same spot in the woods, where eight men raped a 20 year old woman, then released her into the woods to be tracked down and killed by dogs.

Since that day three years ago, Pete has been the Town's Chronicler of History.

DIRECTION FOR YOUR CHARACTER?
Pete would love to escape but knows -- or at least believes -- that doing so could cost innocent lives. He decided in those early days to try to document as many of the Servants as possible -- by name, origin, current location, and/or more -- in an effort to be fully informed and ready to act should the opportunity to bring this madness to an end.

However, he is becoming more acclimatised to the situation every day, and he is forgetting his original mission and simple doing his job, Chronicling the Town, its Residents, its Servants ... its history.

When new prospective Servants are being recruited, he is often brought in to help them come to ease with the Locals ... just before they are taken. He photographs them in various points around the Town; then, after they are enslaved, he documents them and their new lives.

Recently, he found himself becoming lonely. He was often afforded sexual release with the Mayor's pet, Lina, or any of a number of other sexual servants; but it wasn't enough.

Then (on Day 1 of our RP), the Thompson Family enters the town and is enslaved. One of the 19 year old daughters catches Pete's fancy, and he negotiates with the Mayor to have the girl, Haley, given to him as his own indentured servant. He plans on treating her with the same respect he would treat a girl friend ... but, on the other hand, she will become his lover and companion, whether she wants it or not.

ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU FEEL WE SHOULD KNOW:
Pete has secrets not yet revealed. They will become exposed when necessary, to incorporate new characters or provide dramatic twists, etc.

CHARACTER NAME:
Lina

WRITER ID:
Eleiscion

CHARACTER GENDER AND AGE:
Female, mid-20s (?)

PIC:

DESCRIPTION: (Anything not obvious in the pic.)
Curly black hair, green eyes.

Currently thinner (from deprivation) than her normally shapely body featuring full, round breasts and tanned, smooth skin.

Pierced nipples, linked by a silver chain; silver bell hanging from her clit.

Wears a collar and cuffs on her ankles and wrists

SERVANT:
The Mayor's pet, a sexual servant and (involuntary) submissive.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
Lina had been a college student. She was dumped by the man she'd lost her virginity to and went out to "see the real America".

TELL US ABOUT YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE INDENTURED SERVITUDE SITUATION:
Three years before the start of our RP, she was taken as an Indentured Servant by the Mayor. She is currently housed in the attic bedroom of The Wilkerson Boarding House as the Mayor's sexual pet. Sometimes, she is forced to have sex with other people, either as punishment to her or reward to them.

CHARACTER NAME:
Reagan Maguire

WRITER ID:
Pandorica

CHARACTER GENDER AND AGE:
Female,

PICS:

DESCRIPTION: (Anything not obvious in the pic.)

SERVANT:
Wandering into the Town, she is discovered and raped by The Boys and (not yet posted) will likely be sold to the Mayor as his new Pet.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
Reagan came to America with her family when her father Patrick found work here. There was another reason for the family's emigration from Ireland, the fact that the authorities were closing in on them. Patrick Maguire was a tyrant who abused his children, and his wife was little better. Both drank heavily and at times even egged one another on in their abuse of their 4 kids.

Reagan was the eldest at 18 and the prettiest. Her father had started abusing her sexually at a young age, making her touch him, touching her until she felt pleasure, despite her fear and revulsion. Soon he was making her blow him and after many failed attempts, as soon as he could force himself inside her without causing her damage that would require medical care, he started raping her.

That she was the only one of her siblings to suffer this fucked Reagan up a great deal. She tried to run a few times but her father, ever fearful that she'd report him, always tracked her down and dragged her back home, punishing her brutally for her defiance. As she got older she tried to fight him off but that just made him retaliate, until his need to hurt as well as violate her became compulsive. As she aged and he became ever more jaded, he attacked her self esteem with verbal humiliation, demoralizing her until she believed she deserved no better treatment.

Finally, one night at eighteen she made it out of town. Reagan had learned the hard way to stay away from roads and civilization. She vanished into the forest and wandered aimlessly for days, confident that if she walked far enough in the same direction she'd find another town.

And so she did, wandering into The Town, where she was discovered -- exhausted and unable to defend herself -- by The Boys, four 18-21 year olds who dragged her down to the riverside park and raped her.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE INDENTURED SERVITUDE SITUATION:
(Pending.)

DIRECTION FOR YOUR CHARACTER?
She will likely become another play thing for the Mayor; he already has a compliant submissive who does little for him sexually anymore, so having a feisty masochistic bitch will bring him to life.

ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU FEEL WE SHOULD KNOW:
(Pending)

The First Five

"The First Five" were the original Indentured Servants held in the Town.

Little more than 2 years after the State Bypass opened for traffic, another form of traffic was beginning to cause the Town problems: Drug Traffic. Throughout the steep hills to the south of the town and the tangle of wetlands and thickets to the north on the opposite side of the river, meth cooks and marijuana growers were moving in as fast as the Residents were moving out.

Unable to get any assistance from the County Sheriff or State Police Departments, the Mayor and a group of men and women he Deputized, went after the drug makers. Over a period of six months, the Town's Anti-Drug Force cleaned out the area with ruthless efficiency, killing more than twenty men and women, often after torturing them for information about other cook houses.

The State Police learned of the operation and investigated, but wasn't able to find enough evidence to press any charges. The investigation was suspended.

Shortly afterward, the Town suspended its Law Enforcement Contract with the Country Sheriff Department and created its own City Police Department. The CPD was little more than a hit squad for trouble makers, using brutality and financial forfeiture to drive out the criminal element. Within weeks of the creation of the CPD, crime had virtually disappeared.

Then, just over 3 years after the Bypass had opened, another drug house was discovered. This time the 5 members -- 2 men and 3 women -- were taken into custody and, to set an example for others, they were given "Life Sentences" of Indentured Servitude on behalf of the town.

The men slaved away doing all forms of hard labor, until they either were of no more use or died of a combination of exhaustion and exposure. One of the two men died less than a year after his sentence; and the second was hung publicly before a trio of Resident trouble makers -- now, with Mitchie, part of the local group called "The Boys" -- to set an example. (It worked. Although The Boys are still a little rough around the edges, they do anything the Mayor or any of the Elders asks of them.)

The women were made to whore themselves. One committed suicide just days after her capture. The second one attempted to kill herself and spent the next seven months in shackles in a motor home that took her around to Johns. She was finally able to get a hold of a sharp object and rammed it into her neck, bleeding her out before anyone even knew what had happened.

The third woman still lives in Indentured Servitude as a house keeper, farm hand, and sexual servant for the Mayor's disabled son.

CHARACTER NAME:
The Mayor

WRITER ID:
TheGetToItGuy

CHARACTER GENDER AND AGE:
Male, 61

PIC:

DESCRIPTION: (Anything not obvious in the pic.)
6'0", 199#

LOCAL:
Mayor.

Descended from the first settlers of the area; wealthy.

Without children, he is content with spending his fortune on running the Town the way he wants it to be run, and manipulating the people -- Residents and Servants alike -- into following his lead.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
He is quietly psychotic. When the State built the bypass 10 years earlier and killed his town, he had no qualms what-so-ever in forcing others into Indentured Servitude to keep the dream of his productive community on track.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE INDENTURED SERVITUDE SITUATION:
He set the stage for the current situation by taking the first Indentured Servants, known as The First Five; the 2 men and 3 women were meth cookers/dealers who were given life sentences for their crimes.

DO YOU HAVE A DIRECTION THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE YOUR CHARACTER?
The Mayor has just about every thing he has ever wanted ... except a child. He has a submissive Indentured Servant locked away in the attic of the Wilkerson Boarding House and he could force her to be impregnated, but he won't do that; he want the woman who carries his child to do so because she chooses to do so.

ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU FEEL WE SHOULD KNOW:
While he tells others that his only concern is for the welfare of the Residents of the Town, he is really only concerned about his own joy, comfort, and survival.
