What kind of country is so unstable that the citizens must own a gun?

Why do people who purchase guns do not store them in a way that children can not acces them?

I am not against guns, but I think people should treat them more carefully :cattail:

Wow...

...another socialist against the uniquely American individual liberty of self-protection.

I am not a socialist and I have nothing against Americans.

I just wonder that why some countries citizen owning guns.

They make us feel manly and its easier to kill things with a gun than without a gun.

While Finns have a reputation for violence, firearms almost never enter the picture. Finland does have the highest murder rate in Western Europe, but those cases—commonly related to alcohol or domestic abuse—often involve knives rather than guns.

Too funny...

In the short time that you’ve been here I think you’ve managed to hit nearly every GB buzz topic.

I think you just need to do one on racism next and you’ve got the set.

Woof!

"Any government that does not trust their citizens with the means to defend themselves is unworthy of trust itself. For the governments that ban firearms do not do so necessarily for the protection of the citizenry, but to protect themselves from the citizenry." - Ishmael

Why do you like weapons?

Are they sexy?

Sexy? Maybe, for some. I like them because they're fun to shoot. But then again, I was trained on proper handeling when I was very young. Not to big on hunting though. Would much rather spend an afternoon shooting trap & skeet.

Guns are dangerous. So are automobiles. More die every year from cars than from guns. Yet I don't hear anyone screaming about removing cars from the hands of individual citizens.

Things?

You mean shooting animals?

The guns are interesting, but they are also dangerous.

People, targets, cars. Whatever.

Not remotely the same. Automobiles don't serve any real purpose aside from killing. You can argue that recreational shooting like skeet is a legit use and I can argue that using a car to run someone over is a good use of it as a weapon. That isn't their primary use and most car deaths each year are accidental.

Nobody "must." Everybody "should." Why?

Sigmund Freud: “A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity.”

George Orwell: “That rifle on the wall of the labourer’s cottage or working class flat is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there.”

The Dalai Lama: “If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” (May 15, 2001, The Seattle Times)

Benjamin Franklin: Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” (Nov 11 1755, from the Pennsylvania Assembly’s reply to the Governor of Pennsylvania.)

George Mason: “To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them.” (3 Elliot, Debates at 380)

Of course people need to be responsible with their weapons. They also need to be responsible with their kids, including not having any if they can't parent them worth a shit.
