Is The Current Upgrade Messing Up the Comments?

I understand the site has been going through an upgrade during the last three days or so. When I tried to check on the comments to a couple of stories I've been following (not, I hasten to add, my own), I found that the number of comments posted didn't jibe with the number given at the end of the story text, and DG Hear, MFG's, latest, "Abducted" wasn't on his bio page.

Has anybody else seen any anomalies today (9/21)?

I'm sure Dark will come in on this one with a good answer, but I think that the "pages" don't update immediately hence the discrepancy.

For instance if my story has say 10 comments, and you leave one right now, on my control page it will say 11, at the bottom of the story it will say 10 for a day maybe two.

Same as ratings. The control panel reflects scores right up to the vote, but if you are on a hot list, a change won't show for a day or two. I don't think this is new seems like it has been that way for quite awhile.

problems

I haven't been able to cast a vote on any of the stories I've read these past few days

An upgrade, huh? Well, that would explain the slow page loading as of late, among other things. ;)

I've seen reports that voting isn't working in the Feedback portal, and that would explain why stories have been approving so slowly.

Let's hope this goes through soon. Really mucking with things.

Question about comments/voting

I have been unable to vote since yesterday. Until I came across this thread, I thought it was just me. Phew!

I'm a reader, not a writer, but a regular commenter and voter. May I intrude with a question that has the potential to be useful to the authors here?

I often find good stories by digging down into other people's favorites lists, as well as previous years' award winners.

My question: Do my votes on stories from way-back-when still get tabulated? I'd like to think that they do, but with the delay between voting and seeing the scores change, I'm not sure.

I thought you long-time authors might be able to tell me.

Again, I apologize for intruding into this authors' thread.

GE, I've been told your best bet with questions like that is to PM Laurel. And no, for my part, your question isn't an intrusion...it raises a point I'd like clarified as well.

Merci Estragon,

I hadn't thought of a pm to Laurel. I'll certainly give that a try.

Thanks for your graciousness. I'll let you know in this thread if I find an answer.

They certainly do. While they might not count toward any of the contests, they are calculated with the score. I track mine quarterly, and I have five year old stories that change every time.

Wonderful! That is good news.

I did send a message to Laural, but I'm glad to know the answer in the interim.

Thank you very much.

It makes my time seem more productively applied.

Now I'll start to leave comments on the older stories too.

Thanks for the info, Dark. Have you anything further on the current updating process?

I don't know anything more than anybody else does. Though I suspected it, I didn't even know about the upgrades going on until it was said here.

There is a snippet at the homepage for Lit, where the current date is stated, along with a comment (that has been there the last five days, IIRC) that the site is being upgraded and that slow page loadings may be a consequence. Seems like a very long time for a site upgrade, unless there is a massive overhaul in the works. But as Facebook has just taught us, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Seems we're back to normal. Pages loading much faster now. But the upgrade comment is still on the homepage as of 9/24.

Back to normal I'll agree with. "Much faster" I'll have to take issue with. Still experiencing intermittent long load times on all pages, gateway errors, and failed to load errors through the whole site. The forum is still wonky to the point of being almost unusable on a regular basis.

Frustrating.

Dark, maybe I should curb my enthusiasm. The load times and "bad gateway" issues have gone down from the truly dreadful state they were in a couple of days ago, so by "much faster" I only meant "much faster than dreadful, but by no means as good as I'd like". And the "upgrade" snippet is still up.

No, it's progress from where we were. Even loading stories and voting was damn near impossible a couple of days ago, and that's the core of the site -- the lifeblood of the place.

My website has been getting bombarded with Russian spammers recently, and it's a backwater. I can take the time to check out every registration, search the "Stop Spam" databases, then report, ban by email, username, various levels of IP range, and delete them before they even have time to turn around. Clicking around to some other places is showing the same influx of robotic "comrades". If Lit's getting attacked the same way, that could very well be the problem.

With the IP ranges I've banned, half of Russia probably can't see my website. Probably be all of it before it's all said and done.

Every time they catch one of these spammers, they should attach electrodes to their genitals that administer an electric shock every time they come within twenty feet of a computer.

Daily new story posting affected?

Do you think that the upgrade affects the number of new stories posted every day? And how late they go up?

For awhile there we had been getting better than a page per day of new stories, but now the number has fallen.

Up until a month or so ago, new stories would appear after midnight (EST), but now they're much later. I tend to wait up until I see what's on the docket and which of my favorite authors have posted. Unfortunately, that's getting harder and harder to do.

I'd be delighted if it were only fallout from these upgrades...could that be possible?

That's the speculated reason for the drop in the number of stories approved over the last several days.

I doubt it's any easier to utilize the backend tools of the site than it is to browse it, and that would surely slow me down on adding new submissions.

Thanks, that makes me feel better.

I hated thinking that it was a systematic downward trend.

The lower output must drive you authors crazy, too. Obviously if story posting slows down, it takes longer for you to see your work in front of the readership.

Bet the Literotica admin are anxious to see the upgrade completion, as well.

There's orgasm denial, which is a frustrating thing, but then there's story denial, which is excruciating!

I wish Manu would post an explanation of what is going on with the upgrade (in nontechnical language, if possible). The snippet at the beginning of the homepage is more frustrating than helpful, and is so brief no one seems to take notice of it.

But in fairness, I've had quicker page openings and fewer bad gateways or unavailable pages today.

And there seems to be more postings of new stories, although one or two I really want to see haven't arrived yet (unless perhaps the authors have held off submitting them).

Edits/Deletes are finally processing as well. Those weren't moving through the queue at all, as best as I could determine.

I posted an edit a week ago today. Glad to know things are moving along now! Thanks for that. :)
