It's time for Giffords to be removed from office.

Enough time has passed that now is the time for her removal. I'm well aware that she deserves a great deal of sympathy after being the victim of a mentally deranged gunman. That is not even subject to discussion here.

What is germane is the fact that;

1. She is unable to fulfill her role as an elected representative of her district. And while her office staff may be doing a yoemans job in constituent services the fact remains that they are unelected, cannot be held responsible by the voters, nor can they vote on the floor of the Congress.

2. Technically she is no longer a citizen of Arizona. Her home is now Houston and she is likely to remain there for quite some time to come.

She deserves all the sympathy and well wishes sent her way, but her constituents deserve representation.

First, it's Yeoman.

Second, you aren't qualified to determine her ability to perform her role as an elected representative.

Third, She was in fucking rehabilitation in Houston you moron, her primary residence is still in Arizona. So yes, she's still a citizen of Arizona.

Fourth, Unless you've recently relocated to Arizona's 8th it's not for you to speculate on what her constituents deserve or need.

And last but never least, you're a douche-bag of the highest order.

As per Arizona state law, look it up.

Giffords won the election with 49% of the vote, her major opponent got 47% of the vote. So she didn't even have a majority. And those 47% that didn't vote for her deserve representation too. We haven't quite degenerated into mob rule---------yet.

There's precedent for a member of Congress being away from their job for a long rehab, most recently Sen. Johnson of South Dakota, who I believe missed the better part of a year. Strom Thurmond finished out his Senate term from a hospital bed at Walter Reed. And of course, Kennedy spent almost no time in the Senate for the last year of his life.

Granted, all of the above were senators. But why should anyone who doesn't live in Tucson even care about this one way or another?

Embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-NY, is telling friends that he plans to step down, the New York Times is reporting on its Twitter feed.

UPDATE: The Times has more, saying Weiner "came to the conclusion that he could no longer serve after having long discussions with his wife, Huma Abedin, when she returned home on Tuesday after traveling abroad with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton."

This must be the far right talking. I am right of center and it just ticks me off how right wing extremists can make ordinary Republicans look bad. What is the purpose of this thread? Obviously there is more to it than his concern for the people of the 8th District of Arizona getting their just deserved representation. The fact that he quoted voting statistics just proves that the obvious intent here is to turn the seat over to the other side by having a new election. There are plenty of examples of representatives needing to take leaves of absence, hell Anthony Weiner was given a leave of absence! I personally see nothing wrong with being granted a leave of absence up to the point where a re-election happens. Then it is up to the people to decide if they want to keep her or not. I'm sure there is also something in place where if the people of the 8th District of Arizona really wanted her out they could start some kind of preceedings to do so.
 
It's because her medical care is being paid by taxpayers. Pull that feeding tube!
